CKerb
Is Rao's Marinara Sauce compliant? If not, is there another store bought brand that is. Thanks
Moderators ShannonM816 Posted March 15, 2015 Moderators Share Posted March 15, 2015 You'll have to read the ingredients list. If there's nothing in the ingredients that's not allowed by the W30 rules, then it's fine.
proudgeek
Whole Foods has one that is compliant (in my region, anyway). It's the 365 Everyday Value brand, fat free option.
Rebe_J
Costco sells Kirkland brand marinara that is quite tasty, IMO. Ingredients vary by region, so check labels.
fjionna
!!! I was reading labels last week and found that the Newman's Own brand, Garden Peppers variety is compliant. Ingredient list is tomato puree, diced tomatoes, red and green bell peppers, salt, EVOO, spices, garlic. And it's less than $3/jar.
LuluNYC
@CKerb, love Rao's, several of their sauces are compliant, read the labels, all are online as well.
thunderkitten
Michael's of Brooklyn is great too! You get a really large jar of sauce that's good for a few meals.
Lainey
Rao's is compliant. It is one of my favs!
vbangie7
Just curious - I am loving Rao's pasta sauces that are compliant but curious why there are still 3g of sugar listed on the label?
Moderators ShannonM816 Posted April 29, 2015 Moderators Share Posted April 29, 2015 Just curious - I am loving Rao's pasta sauces that are compliant but curious why there are still 3g of sugar listed on the label? Most foods contain naturally occurring sugars. For whole30 purposes, the grams of sugar on the nutrition label don't matter, only sugar and other sweeteners actually listed as ingredients would make things non-compliant. SherryM
Trader Joe's has a Marinara Sauce in a green can that's compliant and very tasty!
libbyk
My favorite canned sauce that is compliant is Mom's which I find at whole foods. But always read labels. There is NO reason to make sauce with sugar and most canned brands do! (this is from someone Italian who makes her own sauce most of the time)
