Jenny Robinson
So in my quest for sausage, I thought I had found some that was Whole30 compliant. Actually, I thought I had found 2 different brands - however, upon closer inspection this morning, one said that the sausage was wrapped in 'collagen casing (minimally processed)' - which subsequently sent up the 2 red flag response with the words 'processed' and collagen doesn't seem so Whole30 approved. So my gut (no pun intended...or maybe there is) says don't eat these things, but I wanted to check on here...
Moderators Tom Denham Posted September 3, 2012 Moderators Share Posted September 3, 2012 Collagen casing--A sausage casing made from a collagen source such as the corium layer of beef hides. These casing have many of the physical properties of natural casings and the uniformity and cleanliness of cellulose casings (http://animalscience...ienceGlossary#C). I guess you can eat those if you want.
krafty-1
You could just remove the casings after cooking
McSherrynyc
I just want to bump this and make sure it is till ok - Chomps beef Jerky is pretty yummy and available at Trader Joe's - The ingredients are compliant, but wanted to make sure the casing was ok. Thanks so much!
Moderators ShannonM816 Posted April 22, 2017 Moderators Share Posted April 22, 2017 It should be fine. Collagen is allowed on Whole30.
