Nalghosain
I have been searching around for an answer to this mystery. Is gyro meat whole 30 compliant? It's made from lamb. And is pretty fatty, but so is red meat. It's my 2nd day, and I'm not sure what to think about this.
SpinSpin
I would say that so long as it is marinated in complaint ingredients, no sugar, no soy, no non compliant oils -- vegetable oil, soybean, canola (while it is 'ok' for eating out, it is best to avoid as much as possible)-- I would say you are probably good to go. I would suggest skipping tzatziki sauce if made with yogurt, but you might be able to do something close with coconut milk. **edited to add -- forgot about the possibility of gluten like Tom and Mary said! **
GFChris
Seasonings in gyro meat are suspect for gluten. I've encountered some restaurants with gluten-free gyro meat, others not. You need to ask every time about ingredients.
Moderators Tom Denham Posted July 28, 2015 Moderators Share Posted July 28, 2015 Gyro meat is MADE from lamb. It is not just meat. That is why you have to ask about ingredients because it has ingredients. And as Chris noted, gluten shows up in gyro meat a lot. By the way, lamb is red meat. Red meat is excellent. Red meat is an excellent choice and far superior to the nutritional value of chicken and pork.
ekc
What about chicken schwarma? I usually eat this as a salad at lebanese restaurants once or twice a week.
missmary
What about chicken schwarma? You have to ask at the restaurant. We can't possibly guess if there is dairy or sugar or gluten or soy in it without asking.
