pregnancy

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I started my first whole 30 August 1st and unbeknownst to me, I was also at the very beginning of a pregnancy. I am now 7 weeks and have felt fine until last night when I think I over did it with to much meatloaf….feel ill thinking about beef now…has anyone been able to do the whole 30 in early pregnancy? I am worried that nausea and the natural disinterest in meat that comes with early pregnancy is going to force me to stop!! :(

Hi there

First off congratulations on your pregnancy - great news!

Note that I've moved your post to the Whole30 while pregnant & breastfeeding forum as I thought it was more appropriate.

I'm including a linky for you to have a read through written by Melissa about how to deal with food aversions which might be of some help to you...

If you are able to eat compliant during your first trimester then it is absolutely a great way to ensure you get adequate nutrition for you and your future little one. That said, there are several of us in the pregnancy/breastfeeding section who are either late 1st trimester or early 2nd who were not able to do so and still might not be able to do so because of cravings/aversions.

I'm 16 weeks and am still unable to do a lot of foods that I used to be able to do, but I'm trying to be mindful of my body and how things make me feel if I do eat non-compliant foods. Don't put unnecessary extra stress on yourself right now; eat as healthily as you can but don't stress if you can only eat mashed potatoes and toast for two weeks because anything else sends you running for the bathroom. But before you eat the toast see if there's a compliant substitute - baked sweet potato? Roasted carrots? Zucchini soup? - that you can eat before going straight for the non-compliant stuff.

Bottom line: don't go running for the cookies and cakes but don't force yourself to stay compliant if all of it makes you feel ill. We don't understand why our bodies necessarily decide some foods and good and some are bad during early pregnancy but your body has made its decision. Forcing yourself to eat things that make you sick isn't going to help you feel better. Good luck and congratulations!

I started mine at about week 12. I also had the aversion to meat early on, but by the time I started it had seemed to subside. Maybe you can start tapering in to the habits so it is not such a shock when you start? And then once you begin to feel better go with it fully. Since starting mine two weeks ago I have lost all my bloat and I am still fitting in my high rise jeans... For another couple days anyway.
