Goviedo
Hello whole30 Fans, I like to make beef bone soup but i have a question regarding prepping it to be cooked. Do the beef bones need to be defrost before making the soup or can I use them frozen to make soup? Thanks for any tips.
Moderators ShannonM816 Posted October 4, 2015 Moderators Share Posted October 4, 2015 I know a lot of recipes say thaw first, but I've made some using a mix of frozen bones I'd been saving in the freezer, and non-frozen bones (the carcass of the chicken I'd just roasted and pulled the meat off of) and had no problems. Roasting the bones first would give you a different flavor, so you could throw the frozen bones into the oven at about 425 degrees or so for a while until they brown, which would definitely leave them thawed -- but I really think if you just want to throw them into the pot or the crockpot frozen, it's probably fine. praxisproject
Long term, if you find you like the roasted bones better, roast them before putting them in the freezer, so it's quick & easy to make bone broth Adding a few cooked bones can boost the flavor, I keep after-meal ones in a ziplock bag in the freezer.
