Dermatitis

I'm on day 30 of my second whole 30 in 2 years and on day 21 I broke out in dermatitisonly on both arms. It is wretched itchy and a little sore. It coincides with a lot of heat in my body (eastern medicine), tummy aches, and irritability. The outbreak followed a particularly intense workout. I was cruising along on my whole 30 and plan to keep on til this goes away. I've been strict paleo for 2 years but my "paleo" snacking and dark chocolate usage were getting out of hand. I want to know what is causing this rash! I've eaten eggs for years now with ease and have cut out almonds this week with no change. Am I simply kicking out heavy metals from Candida dieoff? I'm stumped. Feedback welcome.

I've moved this to the Troubleshooting section of the forum -- hopefully you'll get a little more feedback now.

I don't have a lot of experience with dermatitits, so I don't have any suggestions, other than to check and see if you ate or drank anything right before the onset of it that was different for you, or if you changed any soaps, detergents, or other products, and I'm sure you've already done all that.

You said that you experienced this after a heavy workout session.  Is the rash all over your arms or only in the crooks, inner wrists?  How much water are you drinking daily?  I've experienced flare ups of dermatitis after something particularly sweaty (especially if I was sweating into the cuffs of weight lifting gloves or on a spinning bike where your inner arms stay mostly "crooked" and the sweat pools.  I found that my sweat was tending towards being particularly "salty" and that was so irritating to my skin.  I way upped the amount of water I was drinking and it eased. I also made sure to wash my weight lifting gloves weekly and replaced them often because eventually they would cause the derm regardless of cleanliness (I guess eventually the bacteria just doesn't go away?).

Thanks, no, it is full surface. I'm drinking around 3 quarts of water. I have more energy now and digestion has improved, though I still itch and rash covers most of both arms. So I assume I am improving?

You mention that you have eaten eggs with ease the last number of years.  I have noticed with eggs - when you body has too many - it simply has too many.  I did very well for a couple of years eating eggs almost every morning.  Then around March of 2014 I got problems with a pinched sciatic nerve in my knee and hip.  I was not in extreme pain - just really uncomfortable plus entire leg was numb for a good 8 months.  I worked through physio etc and I got it to the point where i could feel my leg again.  However it was then that I started to feel pain.  I also noticed that I was carrying some inflammation in my joints.  My eczema on my hands came back with a vengeance.  I also developed psoriasis.  So November of 2014 - I decided to cut back eggs and night shades for 1 week.  I didn't give up mayo - but that was about all the eggs I would allow myself.  Within 2 days I noticed improvements. Within 2 weeks my skin cleared up.

Now over time I have come to the conclusion that:  My body had enough with eggs.  I can tolerate them now about once a week.  The quality of the eggs DO matter.  I can eat cooked nightshades.  Raw with cause a psoriasis reaction.  Potatoes I am good with as long as they are peeled.  The skins will cause some minor joint inflammation.

So all of this just to say - just because you have been consuming these food for years with no issue - does not mean that you don't have a problem with them. Your body could have just said - enough of this!  And start reacting.

Cut the eggs out for a week.  See how it goes.

  • 4 weeks later...

I've got a rash too; primarily on crooks of the ams, inside forearms, neck down the chest to the bottom of rib cage, inner thighs. Itches pretty bad on chest and arms. In the last two days I've been treating it with Apple Cider Vinegar and it is taking care of the itching. I keep a bath cloth damp with it in a Zip Lock bag and when I feel an itch, I pat the area down with the cloth. Itch goes away immediately. I've also noticed today that the rash isn't as red. Hope that helps.
