Thanksgiving is coming

My whole30 ends a few days before but I don't want to dive off the wagon. Do you all have any cleaner thanksgiving recipes I could consider? This is what we normally have:

Sweet potato casserole

Rolls

Fried turkey or smoked ham

Broccoli casserole

Cauliflower casserole

Dressing

Gravy

Mashed potatoes

And I'm sure there's more I can't think of. My mom and MIL are picky so if i change a recipe it has to be really good! Mashed potatoes will be easy to convert and sweet potato casserole will have to be savory vs sweet.

I haven't tried it yet, but I'd like to figure out a good version of green bean casserole using mushroom instead of cream of musroom soup and regular onions instead of the french-fried ones.

If you're up to prepping some extra stuff, make your own compliant cream of mushroom soup - I googled "paleo cream of mushroom soup" and found a lot of recipes, most of which use coconut milk in place of milk or cream. Just make your own cream of mushroom soup ahead of time and use it in the recipe.  As for the onions... you're on your own there! Personally I would just leave them off- I don't care much for onions!

Thanks! I failed to search the website and only the board ;)

You're welcome.

BTW, the easiest way to search the forum is from Google. Type Whole30 followed by whatever you're looking for, and you'll get links to relevant past discussion threads.

Regarding "crunchy" onions....You can easily make crunchy onions by chopping into slivers a sweet Vidalia type onion and them putting them into a dehydrator for however long it takes (depends on the dehydrator but typically 12 to 24 hours).  I did this one year because I had a lot of sweet onions I had grown that were going bad and wanted to preserve them.  They were rather addictive to eat just plain actually - just like Funions!  But without all the bad crap.  Make sure it is a really sweet onion however....

And I did use them with success on the green onion casserole dish thing just remember to do it at the very end because if they pick up too much moisture they can rehydrate and get soggy.  So you just want to throw them on the top long enough under the oven to warm and "crisp."

Good luck!

The website detoxinista.com has a green bean casserole recipe that tastes great.  It takes a bit of time to put together but the flavor is yum.

Thanks MTNan, Prairie Farmer, and Loulabelle --- I think I will make it and report back!!

Well, shoot: I ended up travelling for the day, and so wasn't able to make this as I planned.  Hopefully for Christmas!

Did other people have success yesterday?
