Getting a jump on a FAB FEBRUARY by starting Jan 31st...who's in?

Just introducing myself to you all...

I am new to the Whole30. I keep hearing great things about this program and seeing quite delicious looking Whole30 recipes that got me intrigued. I researched it online and finally bought the book. I'm really happy I did and I'm excited to start my Whole 30 on January 31st...going the whole month of February. I am a happily married 52 year old mother of 3 (2 teenage boys still at home) living in New Jersey. We recently moved here from Montana. Life was very busy in the months leading up to our move and to be honest, I just started eating like crap. Fast food, comfort food, loads of sugar and carbs...and I ended up feeling like crap too and ballooning up to  190 pounds! Yikes! I've spent the last 25 days (5 more to go) doing a very strict cleanse which was "liquids only" for the first 21 days. I lost 20 pound & 26 inches, which I'm happy about...but now I need something sustainable which involves nutritionally-dense foods that will help me to reach my weight loss goal of weighing 152 or less, while I am still 52. I turn 53 July 4th. Hence, my interest in the Whole30! I would love to join forces with others out there who want to join me! Who's in?

Hi, I've just spent my lunch hour reading up on the whole30 and I was thinking of starting 31st January too! I've never done it before but have also heard great things and feel like my body could do with a reset especially after Christmas and all sorts of family drama that came with it.....meaning I've overloaded on sugar and carbs! I'm 29 and would love to lose a stone by the time I go travelling for my 30th birthday in August and more importantly feel more energetic and confident. I live with 1 small cat in Lancashire, England and work as an accountant for a group of 3 schools. I hope we can help each other through this!

Hello "wholeemily2016"...Absolutely! Let's help each other through this. I do have a question for you. What is "a stone"? Sorry, I have no idea. I'm pretty excited about starting and have a feeling that preparation is going to be the key to success with this. I loaned my Whole30 book out to a friend who is contemplating doing it at the same time. Are you on Instagram? If so...search for whole30recipes. They have a constant stream of amazing looking food. I hope others will join us at the same time!

I'm starting on the 2/1/16! I'm a newbie as well. I've been overweight my entire life and have a really unhealthy relationship with food. I'm now at my heaviest weight ever. I'm excited to get healthy and rid myself of the things making me feel run down everyday.  I'm finishing up the book now and plan to clean out my pantry and refrigerator this weekend.

Hi! Yes, sorry I'm from the UK so we say a stone for 14lbs, thanks QuilterInVA! My book just arrived so I'm going to make a start reading and planning tonight. Preparation will definitely be key! Yes I'm on IG so will have a look on there for recipes, I want to try a few out this weekend so I know which ones I like to have as staples :) This is going to be so worth the effort! Good luck everybody!

I'll be starting the 31st as well. I've been meal planning, buying ingredients and even trying some recipes for preperation. I'm excited for this. I definitely want to lose weight but most importantly I want to get rid of this sugar dragon. I have a BAD sweet tooth. Hopefully this will help.

Day 1 = Feb. 1

Day 90 = Apr. 30

Hi!  I'm joining you all and headed for 90 days.  I did W75 Sept/Oct/Nov and it was terrific yet it is beginning to get away from me now...first it was "just" a honey cinnamon latte' with friends and now I'm back to putting honey in my tea.  I like the structure and how I feel when my body is clean.  Also, the sweet potatoes have begun to be HUGE in size and not template.  The good is that I find myself CRAVING greens (kale/salad) if I haven't had any in a day.  :)

So Monday!!  WE'VE GOT THIS!

Go over to www.meljoulwan.com and take a look at her batch cooking tips. She has them for 4 weeks of the Whole 30. They aren't menus, but making ingredients and a couple of recipes and sauces in a few hours and then mixing and matching your results for meals all week. She is the author of Well Fed and Well Fed 2. Her Chocolate Chili is to die for and the Sunshine Sauce is fabulous - it goes with everything.

I started yesterday, first time. Don't seem to have many cravings but I am snacking, I suspect it's mostly habitual and spending most days chained to a desk, I'd rather be prepared with good stuff than be fighting reaching the biscuit tin

I've got a horrible sweet tooth and I do like a tipple, so those will be the hardest things for me to conquer.

Are you hungry enough to eat steamed fish and broccoli? Then it's okay to have a snack that follows the meal template of protein + veggie + fat or at least 2 of those. Aim for following the meal template of 1-2 palms of protein + 1-3 cups of veggies and 1-2 thumbs of fat and make your meals large enough to last 4-5 hours. I'm with you on snacking being more from habit than hunger. I used to have something at 8 pm every night while watching tv. It was a habit. Once I got past that and eliminated sugar and artifical sweeteners from my diet everything fell into place.

  • 2 weeks later...

How's everyone doing? According to the book, today at day 10, is the time when most people fall off so let's make sure we get through it and keep going! It's pancake day here and I'm sorely tempted to make a banana egg pancake after my run tonight  :( I know it's not allowed but it's so annoying! For me, pancakes are not "a food with no brakes" and I actually really like the banana egg version so for me it's not even a SWYPO food but never mind. It's not really a craving (just feel like I'm missing out!) so I don't think I'll have a problem resisting. Particularly as I resisted white chocolate and raspberry brownie last night at my friend's house - that is a food with no brakes! Any suggestions for alternative post-run snacks I can have tonight??

Congrats for getting to day 10! I have no snack ideas but feel confident you will make it through pancake night!

I am experiencing all of the bloat predicted around this time. The timeline is so helpful! If I didn't know this was normal I would be discouraged!

Thanks Avd! I agree with you on the helpfulness of the timeline - I was really grumpy last Wednesday/Thursday then checked the timeline, realised those days are called "Kill all the things" and that was just how I felt haha! Much less grumpy this week but with you on the bloat, I just keep focusing on the weekend and hopefully then all the good stuff will start to happen.
