Hello Everyone!!

I just got a new job yesterday, and was on my 4th day of the Whole 30.  I celebrated with a couple beers so now I'm starting over. I learned a lot just in those 4 days though and feel like this time I can complete all 30-days and get my body functioning the way it was meant to.

If you are planning to start this coming Monday I welcome you to join this forum to talk about how to get prepared and this 30 days a life changing event!!

:)

Hey Becky! I've planned to start on Monday, too. I have a few social events this month which is kind of concerning but I figured there's no time like the present to get started! I have this coming week off work so it gives me a bit more flexibility to cook and grocery shop as I go.

How is your prep going?

Hi Kat

The most challenging meal to get made every day is breakfast because we have three kiddos.  So my plan is to cut up veggies like green pepper, and onion.  Then throw in some slices of strawberry and italian sausage so in the morning all I have to do is throwing it in the frying pan with some ghee.  I am glad I got some experience with the program already and have an idea of the things I can make pretty quickly.  I recommend buying a lot of fresh produce.  I had to go back to the store twice during the week because I was eating it with every meal.  It's nice to have a buddy to kick off this program tomorrow.  :)

Hey I'm starting Monday too! This is my first Whole30 and I'm excited. I'm 34 weeks pregnant and honestly want to do something to distract me from how anxious I am about having this baby. My OB is very supportive of the whole30 challenge, I'll need lots of encouragement!

I'm starting tomorrow as well! I look forward to this journey and have prepped for my first four days of meals to take the stress out of getting started. Planning will really be key for me, especially on the weekends, because I provide lighting, sound, staging and DJ services for large events and #1. Easily work 4-8 hours with no break setting up the event (sometimes with pizza while we work), and #2. Then am at the mercy of whatever food is being served at the event, (usually rich, delicious reception food and cake...) So, planning for those days will be paramount to my success. My first big event while on Whole30 will be this Friday. I am planning on making my breakfast at home, then taking my lunch and dinner in a cooler. (I'll just have to say no to the party food :( )

I am starting today too! I am following the 7 day plan in the book to kick me off. Did all my prep as instructed  (except for spaghetti squash cause I can't find that here - I live in Munich, Germany). Eating avocado now. YUM. The frittata for breakfast was great.

I'm starting today too! After a health condition that nearly broke me (took about 6 yrs to identify), a substantial weight gain as a side effect of it and one less organ in my body to digest food properly, I need to do something to get my body feeling good and back on the right track! I'm really excited and feeling empowered to do this! I start personal training twice a week today and will continue with my spin classes and the bikini body workouts to help keep my body feeling good all over. Not gonna lie...I ate the crap out of all the bad foods in my house this weekend to get rid of them, but I also cooked a ton to help get me prepared for this week! Let's do this!!!!

It's my first day too!  I'm feeling so excited right now.  I only managed to get about half of my prep done last night (I may have been overly ambitious), so I'm having to switch a few recipes to different days, but I've still got a working plan for the week!  Happy Day 1, everyone!

Day one is so far so good! Spinach fritatta was yummy, and the sausage patties w/ sweet mashed potatoes was enough for 3 meals, so yay for leftovers! Brisket is cooking in the crock pot and smells so good! Hope everyone else is having a good first day!

It's crazy how often I think about food.  Getting a snack, a granola bar, a diet pop.  Really anything but meat and veggies.  But I have been successful so far today.

I recommend ordering some sugar free meats from U.S. Wellness Meats.  Helps to mix up what you put on your plate.

Hello!!! Tried starting last week but completely bombed out over the weekend as had friends party, can see that is going to be the hard part for me, might have to go underground for a month! Anyway reset the start button yesterday the 25th (I'm in nz and we are a day ahead here) and loved the email I have just received from Whole30daily (recommend subscribing to this as its a mine of encouragement and meal inspiration) which tells me to be resilient and face up to the challenges I stumble across with creative solutions and self-efficacy rather than fear and disillusionment. Here's to some awesome life changes!

I found this too on my first attempt last week so did a lot of black coffee or glasses of water to tide me through the urge to eat off-plan and by the end of the week it was so much easier. Keep strengthening those mind-muscles to let the moment pass :)

I am also on my first journey with whole 30!

Honestly glad to have others in the same situation, feel it gives strength.

I feel it will be hard to not weigh myself as I have been in a "daily weigh" circumstance prior to now.

Thank you all for your post and encouragement!

We Can do this!!

Day 2:

Yesterday went well. Wow I can feel my brain fighting against my "norm". After dinner I usually feel basically "obligated" to plop on the couch and watch tv and drink wine/eat chips. After I put my two kids to bed, I was sort of like... ok what do I do now... and then I realized oh, apparently I can do WHATEVER as long as I'm not eating! (I wasn't hungry). I cleaned the kitchen and the living room and put away some laundry. I have a feeling that the whole30 is going to make me so much more productive on many other fronts!

Waking up this morning, I definitely had a bit of the "hangover" feeling - headache etc - but it is better now. I ate breakfast around 8am at home - which I never do, I always eat breakfast at my desk at work (bought from the bakery on the way) so I wasn't quite hungry yet, and now I feel kinda hungry again. I am going to try having a coffee and some water and see how I do.

Happy Day 2!!!

bzbear2:  I completely understand how you felt last night about your usual routine involving food and sitting on the couch.  I have the same challenge in front of me  I carry lemon in my purse/bag to add to my water which definitely helps me to drink more water.

Day two is done! Woohoo! I definitely had a carb headache today :( but, stayed strong and kept going. I made Melissa's chicken hash tonight--so good! Kids didn't like it, but that just means leftovers for lunch! :) Hope everyone else had a good day!

Had a good day until 3pm.  I struggle BIG time from 3 until 6pm. i normally like to have a beer or some wine with dinner so I was missing that tonight. I made whole30 meatball soup for dinner which was tasty.  But I feel fat from eating all the beef. Hopefully it will work itself out.  I am going to keep trying and with any luck I will make it until the end.

Happy day 2! So far so good! I turned down cake yesterday from one of the best bakeries in the city and have been able to talk myself off the carb ledge a couple of times!

The thing that I am concerned about is the amount of clarified butter and olive oil I'm eating. I'm making recipes from the book but all of them contain oil or butter and these are items I have always tried to limit in my routine. Is anyone else feeling this way? Or any thoughts on this? Appreciate the input!

I just found these forums, so I'm a couple days late, but I'd love to join in.

First day was fine. Second day I had a little headache off and on, but no symptoms as bad as I was expecting. Today, I'm tired and grumpy, but otherwise okay. I'm glad to know my body is reacting to the changes we are making and hoping for good things to come.

I'd love to hear what made each of you decide to do Whole 30 now. Is this everyone's first time doing it?

As for us...We have not quite 3-year old twins and a just turned 1-year old, so life has been really chaotic for the last few years. We've developed terrible eating habits and haven't made our health a priority. I'm still carrying a lot of baby weight that needs to go away at some point, too. We decided to do Whole 30 to jump start our trip back to the land of healthy eating. Of course, weight loss would be lovely, but I'm also hoping for more energy and better sleep for me and for my husband's digrstive issues and allergies to improve.

Ya, Whole30 really encourages you to put aside the "diet" mindset where you limit good fats for the sake of weight loss. Make sure you check out the meal template below and know that if you want to change up your fats, you are free to do so. Avocado, olives, homemade mayo etc are all nice choices too. Your brain needs fat to function and those good fats are what will keep you satisfied and bring flavour to your meals. Don't fear the fat! :D
