Change in taste buds!

I picked up some chicken apple sausages over the weekend and near the end of the ingredients list was maple syrup and brown sugar. Not a whole lot of sugar in the nutrition panel, so I figured I'd give them a try. The only compliant sausages I could find during my Whole30 were spicy Italian ones from Trader Joe's so I didn't have and "mild" sausages during. I'm not really reintroducing much right now, but wanted to see how I fared with some added sugar after reading Melissa's article about doing Whole30 permanently and how she loosens her rules on sugar while maintaining mostly Whole30.

Holy heck they were sweet!

The rest of my meal was very savory, eggs and golden cauliflower soup, so it definitely balanced it out, but wow!

I want to see how I feel for the rest of the day and determine if the sugar sets of some cravings or anything.

What did you find out about cravings? I am finding my tastebuds are reset so much too, in that fruit tastes like candy, and my black tea that I used to HAVE to have a little bit of sugar in now tastes almost too sweet without any sugar at all. It's weird! I'm nervous about reintroducing any sugars because I love this new, sugar-dragon-free me, but I know I'll eat something like dark chocolate at some point. I just don't want to go back down the slippery slope.

It didn't set off any cravings for me and I haven't had too many off-road excursions. Little bit of dairy wasn't bad, but dairy in multiple meals was a no-go. I've been staying pretty strict the last couple days, though, because people in my office are coming to work with colds and I don't want to try to fight introducing non-gluten grains (or whatever) and people's colds at the same time.

My biggest adventure so far involved compliant-but-completely-SWYPO apple flour pancakes with some maple syrup and compliant chicken apple sausages. Sometimes you just let your girlfriend make breakfast because she knows what's what  :)

I introduced non gluten grains today on day 31 in the form of rice bran oil that they cooked my chicken and veggies in at Chipotle.  That's all I plan on doing for a couple of days, I'm really having to push myself to get these training wheels off.

The Chipotle didn't taste as awesome as I remember, it was bland, I was sad.  I had a salad with chicken, fajita veggies, guac, and mild salsa, with no dressing.

I have been looking forward to Chipotle for about a week, maybe it was the whole not having to cook or pack my lunch thing.  I did enjoy that part of it.  Going home and making cilantro lime cauli rice and crispy fried carnitas, I miss my cooking.  I may try a squirt of wine.

After Whole30, I've found that I don't care for diet sodas as much as before.  I was REALLY craving a Diet Coke with vanilla from Sonic throughout my 30 days, so my day-31 treat was a huge letdown.  My hands and feet became hot and puffy.  I also don't require much salad dressing now.  I was so eager to have real dressing after Whole30, but it's just almost too sweet or strong for me now.
