Is Propel legal?

Hi!  I'm on my 4th day and as you already know, it's still quite challenging.  I absolutely hate the taste of plain water but I've been drinking it.  I'm concerned that if I have a backlash, it's going to be with my fluids.  I've already given up my coffee with cream and Splenda.  Please tell me if Propel is allowed and if not, are there any products I can purchase to add to my water to give it flavor?  I am aware of fresh fruit so no need to tell me that.

Are we talking propel flavoured water? As far as I can see every flavour contains sucralose so that would be a no.

You can flavour your water with fruit, or things like cucumber & mint, or squeeze some juice from citrus fruits into it, OR you could try La Croix (I believe there are a number of compliant flavours). Failing that I'd suggest you just get used to water - you can't beat it really - a half an ounce per pound of body weight daily.

Definitely not, propel has sweetener in it.  Make sure you are reading the labels of everything you wish to consume and that there are no non compliant ingredients listed.  Check out the rules for further info (linked below).

 

As far as not liking the taste of plain water, that will change as your body forgets the overly flavoured beverages of your pre-Whole30 life.  Plain water actually can have a bit of a sweet taste, believe it or not.

 

There are unlikely to be any products that you can buy for water flavouring and that sort of thing goes against the spirit of Whole30. Try some fresh fruit or a splash of fruit juice in your water.  Try it super ice cold or room temperature or even warm with a bit of lemon.  Your tastes will change, I promise.  And your body really does NEED plain, clear water whether you particularly love drinking it at this time or not.

Adding fruit to your water is always great to flavor it a little and you can also try La Croix water. It's flavored carbonated water. Always check your labels though. As far as I have seen none of them have added sugar but you never know when a new one may come out that is not compliant.

This is very very foreign for most people. Especialy if it's their first time on whole30. Let's all be helpful and not make anyone feel like they should not have asked a particular question. Most people are not used to reading ingredient labels and let alone know what all the ingriedients are. ☺️

I don't think the moderators were out of line. We are adults and should be able to read ingredients when we have a list of acceptable ones. There is plenty of info on the site to help with that. If you don't know what an ingredient is, I say it shouldn't be put in your body until you find out.

I used to drink a lot of diet soda before my first Whole30, now I drink a mineral water that's like La Croix, as well as water with fresh fruit in it, some Kombucha and sometimes some water with a splash of coconut water.

 

Your taste buds change a lot, so only on Day 4, you may find you like things after a few more days, so it's worth trying some things more than a few times.

I understand the obvious answer is to read labels. after reading 

Propel Water: WATER, CITRIC ACID, SODIUM HEXAMETAPHOSPHATE (TO PROTECT FLAVOR), NATURAL FLAVOR, POTASSIUM SORBATE (PRESERVES FRESHNESS), ASCORBIC ACID (VITAMIN C), SUCRALOSE, SODIUM CITRATE, POTASSIUM CITRATE, ACESULFAME POTASSIUM, NIACINAMIDE (VITAMIN B3), CALCIUM DISODIUM EDTA (TO PROTECT FLAVOR), VITAMIN E ACETATE,CALCIUM.

I didn't see the obious red flags (Sugar, Peanuts, Soy, Corn) 

Thanks for the clarification, but i think it a little wiser to be more gentle to those trying to figure this all out.

You forgot the sucralose--a sweetener and not allowed on Whole30. You can't just look for "the obvious red flags."

'Being diligent about reading labels is an essential part of a Whole30. One of the skills we have to learn to be successful.

I'm confused by your statement that you "didn't see any obvious red flags" and by what you've bolded. The rules state pretty clearly to stay away from processed foods and only eat whole, natural foods.

ACESULFAME POTASSIUM

CALCIUM DISODIUM EDTA

I would think those are all "obvious red flags" as per practically the very first paragraph of the program rules:

"Eat foods with very few ingredients, all pronounceable ingredients, or better yet, no ingredients listed at all because they’re totally natural and unprocessed. "
