Staying Mostly On Track, Not Seeing Results

Recommended Posts

Help!

I finished my Whole30 program and reintroduction in mid-February.  Since then, I have kept to the program with few exceptions (ie., I've had several bites of dessert a couple of times when going out to dinner, I've had a drink or two on about two occasions, etc.).  Nothing I would consider detrimental in the least.  I've been working hard with meal prep, and workout three days a week.

Working out more is the only thing I can see improving, but since weight loss is 80% diet, I would expect to see some weight loss regardless.  Any weight loss I've seen happened in the first six weeks of my Whole30, and then it came to a complete stop.  It's now mid-March and I am still in the same boat.

My body hates me.

While I did not start Whole30 for weight loss, I expected to sustain my learned behaviors from Whole30 to aid in weight loss after the program.  So, that's where I am now.  I am frustrated and getting to a point of throwing my hands up and giving up.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thank you in advance.

It's hard to say what might be going on.

Are you still following the meal template for your meals and avoiding eating between meals? Have you seen any evidence of a change in body composition, like looser fitting clothes? (It is possible to gain weight, but lose inches, depending on what you're doing exercise wise). Are you sure you have weight to lose (and not like the last 10 lbs that people always feel like they need to lose, regardless of their weight)? Are you under more stress now than you were? Are you getting enough sleep? Are you eating pre- and post-workout meals?

Have you seen any NSVs (Non-Scale Victories) like sleeping better, less aches and pains, better or more steady moods, fewer cravings? If you have, focus on those (here's some other ideas of things to look for) and try not to worry about the weight for a while -- those NSVs are signs you're on the right track. If you don't have any of those things, or if you did during your Whole30 but they've disappeared, it might be worth posting a day or two of typical meals, including approximate portion sizes, water intake, and exercise, and see if there's anything that you might try changing to see if it would help.

Have you considered that if you are working out regularly, that you are building muscle that might keep your weight where it is? Rather than standing on the scales, have you checked measurement changes? I went through something similar but found that my body had increased in muscle while the fat was reducing and my weight wasn't really budging (I got sick after this and that's why i am now on Whole30 - to get well again and go back to feeling really good)

I agree with the others. When I did my first W30, I didn't feel like I had any weight victories, but I had a ton of NSV. Then I took my after pic and noticed a ton less inflammation, and the scale showed results also. I think that sometimes we are too close to it to really see the victories. I am also only weighing once a month now, required for some meds I'm on, because the scale is a vicious liar who tells me my worth based on the number. I am more than the number on my scale.
