coconutty619
Hi everyone, Going to Vegas during reintroduction. Staying W30 compliant, however, after trying to reintroduce some things and feeling generally icky. I'm going to pack my complaint snacks and know how to eat out. But I need my coffee. I do coconut oil/coconut cream from Trader Joe's/cinnamon/100% cacao with my immersion blender each morning and afternoon. How do I do this on the road? Or something similar? Any of you had experience with replicating your homemade coffee while out of town? Thanks!
Administrators ladyshanny Posted March 16, 2016 Administrators Share Posted March 16, 2016 I do take coconut milk with me when I travel. I am able to find 2-ingredient coconut milk in a tetra pack (coconut flesh, water) so I just pack that and then refrigerate it. Usually we are camping so it doesn't necessarily last through the entire two week trip without going bad. But I can happily drink my coffee black also. If you are interested in learning to take your coffee black, try some high quality coffee, gently roasted. Things like Starbucks can be a bit harsh on first-timers. praxisproject
If one thermos is enough, you could blend one at home and pack it for later (it's unlikely to still be hot and will "split" a little when cold). You could also just do the milk/oil part with no coffee and use your thermos as a "coconut milk holder". If you can get compliant mini tetra packs or cans, you'll have some more coconut options, but blending with coconut oil is generally a no go on the road unless you have a power outlet, a blender, a place to make loud noises, somewhere to clean up, etc (this can even be difficult in some hotels). If you're really desperate, some mini packets of coconut butter (not oil) can make your coffee less black, but it's not going to be what you're used to and it's not coconut milk so it won't blend very well with a spoon. You could also just drink some black coffee and just eat some coconut butter
Moderators LadyM Posted March 20, 2016 Moderators Share Posted March 20, 2016 I have actually packed my Cuisinart immersion blender (breaks down into two pieces) with my quart-size silica measuring container and a small jar of coconut/mct oil in my suitcase for business trips. Having a bullet-proof coffee was a great way for me to bypass the sugary pastries and yogurts and such at conferences and then make protein+veg choices for lunch and dinner. Mistyfire
I have a Planetary Design double shot French press travel mug. Dump in my coffee, coconut milk, hot water. Wait 5 minutes, push the plunger and drink. It makes outstanding coffee! I pack little cans of coconut cream or if I have fridge access, I bring coconut milk. And my mini can opener, container, and a fork so I can stir it like crazy. Works great during that time when the trolleys of bagels, doughnuts and muffins are being wheeled out. CarolinaGirl71
There is a milk frother called Aerolatte that is small and doesn't make too much noise, that you could try if you don't want to bring the whole blender. It might take a little longer to blend it.
laughChi
Try Starbucks Cold Brew ice coffee black. It is fantastic. Not too bitter.
kruddock
I have also brought mine to work in a travel mug but I also just started making coffee with coconut milk with a battery powered milk frother which works great, actually better then my immersion blender. I usually bring coconut milk in a container from home but you could also buy it in small cans or tetra packs, just make sure it is compliant. How it tastes will depend on the quality of coffee and coconut milk. I bought a Americano from one of my favorite coffee shops on the way to work and blended it with coconut milk using my frother and it was absolutely delicious!
