Planning to be BFing and W30 soon!

Recommended Posts

I am choosing not to do a w30 while pregnant due to a lot of factors (1 of which is knowing my will power/brain during pregnancy would not be conducive to it, though I'm already trying to eat clean but this would be my first w30), so I'm planning ahead for June (because kiddo will be here by then). For those been there done that moms, what have you noticed helps you? (Kiddo will be 2-3 wks old, best guess) I'm already meal planning for my week to help with budget and try to limit my shopping to once a week to help save on money and sanity and increasing my veggie intake won't be hard (I already eat a lot more veggies than I did a couple of years ago!) but fat intake may be a little more difficult (I'm not a big fan of olives or coconut meat, but I like coconut milk and oil sometimes, but I use a lot of ghee and avo oil) Also what are somethings you've noticed BFing and w30?

I have no experience to draw on here, but thought I'd mention a few things in case you haven't stumbled across them yet in reading about the program.

Have you checked out the Healthy Mama, Happy Baby program? If you're not interested in it, that's fine -- I just wanted to make sure you knew it existed in case it sounds helpful to you. There are other pregnancy/baby related articles here.

When you're meal planning, keep in mind that BFing moms are encouraged to eat four meals, and to up their fat intake as well. So, you may actually sip on coconut milk throughout the day to get more fat in. And be sure to get plenty of water -- minimum is 1/2 oz per pound of body weight (so if you weigh 120 lbs, drink at least 60 oz), and BFing moms may even need more.

Just in general, for the fat intake, look for dressing and sauce recipes that you can add to your meals. These will help you get your fat in, and they can also change the flavor of meals, so you can keep things simple -- prep a bunch of chicken or beef or whatever, seasoned pretty simply with salt and pepper and maybe garlic and onion, and then just change up the sauces you add to it when you serve it to avoid getting bored with it.  A few ideas here, and here. Simple mayo recipe hereChimichurri sauce is great on everything. Sunshine Sauce is good too. You can buy some as well -- Tessemae's makes quite a few Whole30 compliant options, or check the Whole30 Approved page to find other possible brands (but always read your labels, in case they change recipes or anything).

Also, don't rule out all olives. I thought I didn't like them at all, but found that I can eat Castelvetrano olives just straight out of the jar. Kalamatas are okay in recipes, but I don't care for them on their own, and I still can't stand regular green olives. So maybe there is some kind out there that you would like.
