Can you LOSE your fat adaption?

Recommended Posts

After going through the W30 and struggling with my runs, I came through it fat adapted. I was beyond thrilled to see the results and see the changes in my body! Even though I had to get refitted for a bra. ;)

I was wondering, now that I am post W30... Occasionally, I would like something off plan, like half a cookie or some dark chocolate. However, is it possible to lose your fat adaption by eating these things? I definitely do not want to go back to being a sugar burner.

I am still running without a pre-WO meal (I feel best this way) and eating lean protein with sweet potato right after my runs or hard workouts. On long runs of 8-15 miles, I'm drinking some coconut water. There will be a half marathon at the end of the month that will offer Ultima electrolyte drink, so I was going to have a little of that instead of bringing coconut water with me on the run. Or, just drink water.

I look forward to an answer soon about the fat adaption thing. Thank you in advance!

Yes you can.

That said it very much depends on how long you have been eating this way, how well your metabolism has adapted, and how often & how far off the rails you go each time....

ETA You're not going to be unadapted each time (or as soon as) you eat something off plan - it's more the long term effect of how eating off plan will impact your metabolism if you get my drift. The indicators will still be the same... Do you get hangry? Can you go 4-5 or more hours without food? Is your energy stable? Could you train fasted? etc

Yes! Thank you! I so appreciate your answer! In that case, I will save the sweets for a rare occasion. I've been enjoying this way of eating, and thrilled to finally see the results of becoming fat adapted, so I would like to retain those benefits. :)

This is great information for me. I went through my first w30 and don't think I became as efficient burning fat as I'd have liked to become. I'm hoping that giving my body a little more time will help it out. And of course, I'm a sugar addict so I really just can't eat anything sweet without going crazy...including fruit.
