Is a reintro going to be possible?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! For some background, I am doing my second Whole30. My last was a few years ago. Looking back, I can see some places I went wrong, but I lost no weight, which I found really discouraging. I ended up doing no reintro phase, just fell face first into pizza and cookies.

This time around, I am 30 weeks pregnant, and am doing Whole30 because I really believe it's the best way to give myself and my baby the best nutrition possible. I have had some IBS symptoms for years and years and years, and I feel much better eating this way.

However, we are also expats living in Papua New Guinea, and will be leaving soon and traveling to Australia for the birth of our baby. Dear friends are throwing me a girls overnight, which will include dinner, breakfast, and treats. Dinner will be gluten free, or at least is supposed to be according to the cooks. But I am sure I'll end up consuming some sugar, possibly soy, and some gluten and dairy are also a possibility. I value my friends, and am SO happy for this night and the effort they are going to in order for this time to happen, especially as we will be gone from our ex-pat community for 3 months. All that to say, this Whole 30 will end up being a Whole21. I plan to resume Whole30 eating as soon as I finish breakfast on the 22nd. That only leaves 24 days before we will be in Australia. I'm afraid it will be hard to do a proper reintro once we get there.

To my question: Will I gain any reliable information from doing the 10 day reintro before we leave for Australia? This would mean 21 days of compliant eating, a few meals potentially uncompliant, then 12 compliant days before starting the reintro.

OR, should I just consider every day of compliant eating a blessing, and worry about doing a proper reintro once things settle back down and I can get a full 30 days before reintroducing?

To add, I understand that some people would choose to insist on eating Whole30 during the girls' night, and I understand why that would be ideal from a food elimination standpoint. But I'm not comfortable with that choice and feel like it's not something I could do, so I'm just trying to figure out the best system within those constraints.

THIS.

If you truly want clear results from reintro then I'd go with this option.

If you're going 'home' to Australia, and with a baby on the way, I'd imagine it'd be tough to stay compliant, or stay true to the reintro process.

We'll still be here when things have settled back down for you  :)

I fully agree!  If you're going back to your home after years away with no access to special foods that you love, I don't think it's worth it for you to be restricted and stressed about food.  You probably have 'some' idea of how things affect you and you probably know that if you eat pizza every night for a week you won't feel good... try and make smart choices but give yourself some breathing room!

Thanks!! That is really helpful and encouraging. I didn't want to feel like this time was wasted, but I'm also trying to be realistic with my expectations. I feel fairly confident that this time my actions and my brain will be willing to keep pace with each other, and I will be back to Whole30 as soon as possible.
