ADD THE SALT

Whole 30 Friends!! Please read and follow the instructions given for the whole 30 program. In the author's note in 'It Starts with Food' it reads, "Salting your food is good, even, especially when you're not getting a ton of salt from all those processed food you used to eat." Salt isn't evil. It isn't the bad guy. Please add salt. My mom didn't add any of the salt called for in recipes and on Day 22 had to be admitted to the hospital for CRITICALLY LOW sodium. I know this is an extreme case, but I don't want it to happen to anyone else. Spread the word. Follow the rules.

I hope your mom is feeling better.

And yes, everyone definitely needs to salt their food when they cut out all the processed, pre-seasoned stuff -- many people are worried about too much salt, but you do need some, and Whole30 can cut your intake pretty drastically if you don't make some effort to add some back in.

I've been using Celtic and Pink Hymalian salt for years now, but sometimes I hear about people being low in iodine.  Anyone run into this issue using natural salt?

Celtic and Pink Himalayan salt have naturally occurring iodine, but not as much as the iodine added to iodized salt. Personally, I take an iodine-rich supplement  (kelp) because I know I am low and I prefer sea salt to the processed stuff. A saliva test would tell you if you are low in iodine.
