I Crave Juicy Fruits and Soup

Recommended Posts

I am on day 23. At about day 17 I started not wanting heavy foods such as steak, eggs or even my Brussel sprouts I was eating with my steaks. I began wanting soup (I make it and it is whole 30) and watermelon.

I feel lightheaded at times and also hungry sometimes but don't want anything heavy.

I am not losing weight and feel bloated a lot of the time. Probably the watermelon. Because I am not eating anything else I am eating a lot of it.

Does anyone have any similar experience or can offer anything? I am getting down about no weight loss and also the feeling of lightheadedness.

Any suggestions for something besides eggs and meat?

I eat a few nuts during the day too.

The lightheadedness could easily be due to undereating. Even if you don't think you want food, you need to eat at least three template-sized meals each day.

What's in the soup you're eating? Does it include proteins? Could you make it heartier?

When I want things that feel lighter, I'll go for grilled chicken breast (if you follow this recipe it won't be dry, an issue I've had with it in the past), hard boiled eggs or deviled eggs, tuna or salmon salad. I'll pair those with big, leafy green salad sometimes, but more often, I'll put together plates that look more like this Gado Gado, or I'll make up some broccoli salad, or beet salad, or boil some red potatoes, let them cool, and toss them with olive oil, garlic, green onion or chives, and other seasonings for a lighter take on a potato salad. Maybe throw in sliced cucumber and tomatoes drizzled with a bit of balsamic vinegar and olive oil, or just some cherry or grape tomatoes. I'll have some guacamole or some mayo mixed with some roasted garlic for dipping the meat or eggs in, or if I don't want that maybe a handful of olives, and if I want a little crunch, maybe a few almonds or pecans or cashews. Then maybe a little bit of fruit on the side. It's a template-based meal with plenty of food, but it feels lighter.

On top of what the others have said I'd ask are you salting your food? Sodium levels can drop by as much as 75% when switching to a whole diet and you need to replace the sodium lost naturally by the body.

I'd also add that nuts can cause some serious bloating.

Some lack of appetite is fairly common but unfortunately NOT eating when you don't have an appetite only serves to perpetuate the problem.

How about some bland comfort foods like root mash, scrambled eggs, and bone broth?

I agree with Lady M - I find that, especially towards the end of w30, I get VERY thirsty and crave light foods with a high water content - you may be dehydrated. It helps me to drink water with lemon or a mint teat bag, and I still end up drinking around 120 oz of water a day.

Wow! What great ideas and responses. I realize everything that has been said here is absolutely true and is playing a role in all of this.

First of all, the idea of not enough sodium might be causing the lightheadedness because I am washing out a lot of it with the melon and not using much salt at all.

My soup is a bone broth with a whole large bag of turnips, 4 white potatoes, carrots, a whole bag of celery, a whole cluster of garlic and a large onion as well as a can of tomatoes which are unsalted.

I do not think I have followed the template well enough and have done better the past few days and I am better. I am trying to cut the watermelon down but I am having so much trouble doing that. If it is cut then I continue to go back for piece, after, piece. I just have a problem with watermelon, not being able to stop. I hope this is a problem I can solve somehow during whole30.

I appreciate the detailed recipes, Shannon, and will look these over. I am in the process of compiling a notebook of recipes that I can easily make.

I really appreciate everyone's time.

Thanks again and good luck to everyone. May you be healthy, wealthy and wise!!

If you like eating soup, make your soup meet the template. Specifically based on what you've listed you'd need to add protein and fat. Diced chicken or turkey, ground beef, even chicken sausages if you can find compliant ones. Heat up your soup, heat up some protein, put protein in soup, you don't even have to change your soup recipe. For fats, you could add diced avocado to the soup, or have a handful of olives on the side, or even try adding coconut milk to the soup for a creamy soup if that sounds good.

I don't particularly like watermelon (unless you count the time I was pregnant with my daughter and I'd eat a lot of it and salt it because sweet and salty) but I have other foods that if I have I won't stop eating. Try to not give in to buying more watermelon and find ways with the template to use the rest of what you have. (Watermelon gazpacho is great!!! But that wouldn't be a whole meal...)

Part of the w30 is retraining your brain and your relationship with food. If there's a food that you can't not eat, maybe take a few days/weeks to retrain yourself that it's ok not to eat all the time.
