Weatherspoons

If you're in the the UK, and want to go out for a meal I can recommend going to a Weatherspoons pub.

They do great value meal deals anyway, however they're hot on alergies, and dietary requirements.

On Sunday I went to The Rockingham Arms, in Elephant and Castle, and it took me ages to find something that was acceptable - Salmon fillet - the menu said it came with Hollondaise sauce, jacket potato with butter, and side salad with dressing.

I spent about ten minutes trying to explain to the bar lady that I wanted no sauce, no dressing, and not butter - which she typed into notes on the screen when ordering.

the food turned up ten minutes later.  A salmon fillet, a plain jacket potato, and a side salad, and a sauce jug of hollondaise, a little dish of salad dressing, and a little pack of butter.  I'm guessing that it comes like that anyway, but fair do's for getting a meal to me that I could eat.

I was impressed.

Yep, European Food Laws are fairly explicit about allergens being clearly stated on menus - you'll still need to check for sneaky sugars (and alcohol, vanilla essence, rice, corn, and legumes that aren't soy or peanuts) though!

For the record the foods below are all on the regulatory list and should be clearly identified on UK/European menus:

eggs
milk
fish
crustaceans (for example crab, lobster, crayfish, shrimp, prawn)
molluscs (for example mussels, oysters, squid)
peanuts
tree nuts (namely almonds, hazelnuts, walnuts, cashews, pecans, brazils, pistachios, macadamia nuts or Queensland nuts)
sesame seeds cereals containing gluten (namely
wheat (such as spelt, Khorasan wheat/Kamut), rye, barley, oats, or their hybridised strains).
soya
celery and celeriac
mustard
lupin
sulphur dioxide and sulphites (at concentration of more than ten parts per million)

Glad you enjoyed your lunch  :)
