Any New Yorkers?

It is so funny you say that! That is where I ordered from today- after confirming that it is whole 30 compliant. I used to order from them all the time (pre-whole 30) until they changed their chicken menu.

These are great tips. I live in Westchester County and rarely come into NYC, but when I have in the past, I've eaten all kinds of non-w30 foods. Now that the weather is getting nicer, I've been wanting to venture back south for some urban time and visiting with friends, but was worried about what/where to eat.

I'd think in NYC you'd have better luck than most people stuck with 99 Restaurants and other chain places that can't really tinker with menu items too much!

Dig Inn is great, sweet greens, 5 napkins (they have a compliant burger salad). Chipotle.. In an emergency Juice generation, professional with a hard boiled egg or two from a bodega... The Smith for out with colleagues...they have a lot of compliant options. I love the freshly steamed seafood. Ordering raw oysters is always an option. And my go to for during drinks or dessert is decaf espresso...especially at any fine Italian restaurant. Any fine restaurant will steam fish with a veggie. Good luck, and go forth!

My third day on Whole 30 I had a date with a friend to go to our usual, NoHo Star. I told the waitress I was new to food restrictions, and she walked me through the menu. Grilled steak (after her assurance it would be cooked "naked"), side of asparagus, hold the sauce, side of salad that came with it. When she delivered it, there was a little pot of sauce, which she looked at, then said, "You can't have that." She pointed to the salad that came with it and said, "That you can have." In short, she was terrific and obviously very familiar with various restrictions (told me mine were easy).

From my experience with friends who are celiac, and have to really insure they eat nothing off their plan, the best bet in NYC are the French-bistro kind of places, where you can order meat or fish grilled and whatever side is compliant.

Last week when I was in a cab, I passed a place called Hu Kitchen on 5th Ave...  it's a Paleo restaurant, and a lot of their stuff looks W30 friendly.  I'm also a big fan of Chop't, I order custom salads from them a lot and use my own homemade dressing.

If you have a burger with no bun, avocado & salad on the side with pico de gaio, wouldn't that be whole 30 compliant? I've eaten it twice in NYC and have been pleasantly surprised!

If you get guacamole, I just ask what's in it (some places put mayo)

You may need to ask about oils used in the burger cooking process or if they use any seasonings.

Hey @MLM1975 (and any other NYers) I'm just starting my program tomorrow and, while I have prepped some meals, I also find myself often too busy (or tired) to cook. Have you found anymore Whole30-friendly restaurants with more than just a burger without a bun? My biggest concern is the amount of meat I'll have to eat -- I generally only eat eggs every morning, and maybe one serving of chicken at the most in a day.

I'm headed to NYC for an overnight trip 7/21-7/22.  I'm staying at the Loews Regency over on Park Avenue with meetings on 8th & 25th and East 59th Street.

I kinda know my way around, but not well.  Any ideas for what's nearby any of these locations?  I'll be at days 24 & 25 of my first 30days and want to stick with it.  I'm just packing in a backpack that I'll likely be carrying around with me the bulk of the time.   So I can bring some things like a couple of bars and jerky, but not much unless I want to lug it around.  I might try to pack a lunch of HB eggs, cut up veggies & a single serve guac.

Hey Christy - This isn't exactly in the area you're staying, but today I discovered Life Thyme Market in the West Village (6th Ave between 8th and 9th) and it's heaven for people on the Whole30! You can see from the Yelp pics (http://www.yelp.com/biz/lifethyme-new-york)%C2'> they list all of their ingredients and many of their prepared foods are compliant. I went today and found lots of prepared (hot, even!) soups, salads, sides and meats that are compliant, plus they have a juice bar and an organic market with lots of compliant packaged foods and dehydrated fruits and veggies. You should be able to find hard boiled eggs, cut up veggies and guac at just about any market. Whole foods makes compliant guac and has a lot of stuff you can eat. The other day I discovered their pineapple with chile powder. Good luck!

I actually just discovered another amazing place today and they have locations where you'll be. It's called The Juice Shop (http://thejuiceshopny.com/locations/) and they also just opened one in FiDi at Broad and Stone Street. They make their own almond milk (which they also combine into a latte with cold pressed coffee and spices) and cold-pressed juices, and they also have green salads and prepared chicken, tuna and salmon salads that list all of the ingredients (no mayo, made with EVOO, so they are compliant).

In terms of other chains: You can also get the carnitas, lettuce, guac and most of the salsas at Chipolte (I've not done this but have seen a lot of posts about this); and the Cobb Salad minus the blue cheese and bacon (just to be on the safe side) at Le Pain Quotidien. This is one of my favorite salads and (because it has avocado) would be a perfectly balanced W30 lunch.

I was in the city yesterday/today, and I LOVED The Juice Shop.  I was so excited for their coffee drink and was pleased by how yummy it was.  Their mayo-free chicken salads were really good too.  There's one located very close to Penn Station, so I went there when I got in yesterday and before I left today.  I had dinner at a Chop'd. I was hoping to go to The Little Beet, but I won tickets to Aladdin via the lottery, so we were short on time.  Chop'd was good, but nothing that wowed me (although I'd love one right now in my area).
