Poor planning... a wedding on day 18

Recommended Posts

Hello :)

I've started my second Whole 30 this week and it's going fine so far. I'm in the first few days so having all the effects of that (tiredness, missing foods, a bit grumpy to be honest) but I'm feeling motivated to continue.

However, I haven't planned this very well and have just realised that my good friend's wedding is at the end of this month when I will be around day 18. Having just got married myself I know full well how stressful it is to plan a wedding and I don't want to put any undue pressure on my friend (who is also pregnant and I'm sure has enough to think about!) and be difficult or demanding about food. I don't have any allergies, I've made this choice to take on this challenge and I don't think it's fair on her to ask for fairly last minute changes that could cost her money. I know the main course is steak and chips but I'm not sure about the others.

The alcohol isn't a problem, I'm quite happy to sip water.

I think, at this point, that I'll just carry on up to the day, relax and enjoy myself there and eat what I'm given and then look to start again the day after. I'm hoping by that far in I'll be feeling the benefits so another 30 days won't feel quite as daunting as it does now!

What would you guys do?

Especially since this is not your first rodeo, I would do pretty much the same but hold space for the possibility that I could cobble together a relatively compliant meal at the wedding. In other words, I wouldn't make it a free-for-all and eat cake, pasta, and dinner rolls while drinking my face off, and I also wouldn't sweat the marinade of the main course meat. I'd probably bring my own salad dressing, though, since the thought of nasties in dressings kinda freaks me out, and that's what I do normally, anyway.

Good luck and enjoy yourself!

Thank you, that's helpful!

Just out of interest, if you went and managed to eat what you think is compliant food (e.g had steak and salad, no dressing) but you couldn't be 100% sure that nothing non-compliant was used would you start again or continue with your 30 days?

Thanks!

For purposes of doing reintroductions, you need to be absolutely certain you have 30 straight days of no off-plan foods, so if it were me, if I hadn't confirmed with the people who prepared the food that it really was totally compliant, I'd probably keep going for another 30 days. (Call it a Whole48, if that helps, rather than a restart.)

That's what I was thinking, thank you :) I think I'll just do my very best to eat compliant foods but if I'm not sure I'll add on another 30. It can only do me good!
