Carb Concerns While Breastfeeding 3 mo

Recommended Posts

Hello all. I am starting my first Whole30 on Monday, August 1. I discussed this with my doctor who, for the most part, is supportive, but is also concerned that I will not be getting enough carbs and that my supply will drop. She suggested I do a modified Whole 30 and add beans. I really don't want to do this. If I'm going to do this, I want to do it 100%. I read in the book "Whole 30" to eat more frequent, smaller meals if nursing. Any suggestions as far as what to eat for higher carb intake?

Starchy veggies (like root veggies, winter squashes, etc). For BFing moms, 4 template meals (or three larger meals and 2 smaller ones) is recommended as is a little more fat (some women drink coconut milk throughout the day.

There's no reason you need to add legumes. There are plenty of carb choices that are whole30.

And hi! I'm starting Monday too!!

I'm starting over again tomorrow, too! Long story short, I was really busy yesterday and didn't eat enough and had really low blood sugar this morning. Some people suggested I eat more sugar! (read the long story here).

I am even more determined to make sure I get 4 large meals following the meal template, and at least 1-2 mini meals. After reading a lot of advice in previous forums, I also saw the advice to have at least 1-2 starchy veggies a day, and not to snack on fruit. Instead, sip coconut milk or snack on protein+fat+(optional) veggie.

I hope it goes smoothly for you!

Thank you ladies! Yesterday was tough (I'm battling the carb flu- so far it's been better today) but I know I can do this and also be 100% compliant. I'm going to take your advice and eat lots of starchy veggies!
