So my days can be a little unpredictable because I stay home with my toddler, and while nap time is the same each day, our play groups and appointments and such are not. I need ideas for cold lunches that I can quickly prep in the morning. I'm kind of tired of tuna salad, so something other than that. I've been struggling with getting enough fat in to keep me full too so I'm looking for any creative ways to get that.

Cruise through the recipe sharing and cooking threads... also google 'whole30 brown bag lunch' and 'whole30 picnic' for ideas.

I love that you are seeing the positives in what can be a difficult program. You go! :D

Are you hungry earlier than 4-5 hours between meals? If so, you might not be eating enough or you don't quite have the right balance on your plate. If you want to post a couple typical days of intake, we can see if there are tweaks to make so that this is an even more positive experience for you. :)

Thank you! I think it's just the time between lunch and dinner. We eat kinda late at our house. I typically don't get home from work until about 6:45 and still need to cook. So that's one challenge. I'm not as hungry for snacks as I used to be, so that's been good. Sometimes I'll have a small snack of a handful of nuts, vegggies or fruit or just start cooking and it distracts me enough. I think I'm eating a lot actually.

B: hard boiled egg, avo and banana and it tides me over until lunch

L: leftover protein with salad and veggies  for lunch, it's been good to have leftovers

D:l been making variety of proteins, ground beef with whole 30 tomato sauce (yum!) or steak or chicken or burgers or pork... all good portions and then I'll make either cauliflower rice or sweet potato and steam or saute some veggies. And maybe some fruit for "dessert"

later if I am up watching a movie or am still hungry, I'll grab some nuts or a scoop of almond butter, but not every night... usually just a cup of herbal tea is enough.

If there's something I'm not doing, any advice would be great, but I'm feeling so much lighter and healthier and the hunger isn't intense. I'm feeling like I want to extend this whole 30 or at least do a very slow reintroduction. I have a dinner date at the end of June that I've been looking forward to, so I'll be pretty good until then... may add back in my almond milk latte, but other than that I want to stick to this way of eating as long as I can maintain. :)

To those recently in recovery from substance abuse issues:

God bless you for taking this on.  You can do it.  The current treatment for substance abuse is adding cigarettes to the mix, which I thought would never work.  But in many cases the addicts in recovery are taking those bulls by the horn, too.  You can do this!  You can omit the cake and drink the coffee black no sugar at the meetings.  Just do not stop the meetings.  Talk everyone's ears off.  I wish I had known about the Whole 30, 30 years ago.  That's how long I have been clean and sober.  If I had I would not have the replacement issues I have today.  But I am here now.  One day at a time x 30.  That seems to be the keynote number of our times.  Stay in touch!

@Jane3797 welcome to the group and how amazing that you have 30 years under your belt!  Whole30 has certainly helped me address my addictive food issues that I've struggled with for decades. I, too, wish I had found this way of eating earlier!

I've been trying some new recipes this week from RealPlans. Nothing crazy, but it adds flavor - I tend to cook in a pretty bland way.  Last night I made lemon pepper chicken and roasted potatoes. My son was thrilled, and there is no kind of chicken that thrills him :) Tonight I'm going to make a meatloaf.

We're on day 21 folks! Hard to believe.  I'm not feeling as thrilled as I do sometimes at this point.  Physically I'm feeling pretty good, but being on Whole30 for four months, and then going off the rails for a month...It's always hard for me to get back on. So I'm just choosing the next right thing, and not letting the emotions get the better of me. (Always easier to keep that in check when I'm on Whole 30).

Roll call - how is everyone doing?

Thank you for celebrating that achievement of mine.  It happens to be all a result of faith, a lot of asking until I received and then letting go, focusing on the next issue at hand.  It's too bad we don't live much, much longer because I feel I'm running out of time...it goes too quickly.

However, Whole30 sounds like it will resolve many things that will give me more time.  I love how this works.

I will look into RealPlans, as my start date is right around the corner.  At the moment I am lost in link upon link from googling Whole30 breakfasts.

Don't get discouraged!  Just make a gratitude list of all the long term ailments that have disappeared so far on Whole30, and what exactly you reintroduced that gave you bad responses?  Remember that you are like an allergy specialist and working with the patient to discover what they are allergic to and what can be kept.  Am I stepping on anyone's' toes?  I hope not, and am grateful for the community to Air my thoughts to.  Thank you again!

Day 22!

I really haven't been logging my food at all, but besides that things have been going really good! I've been having some cravings the past couple of days, but I know I'm so close to the end, so it's easy to push them out of my mind.

Hope everyone is doing well!

Hello everyone,

I'm still doing well, the eczema comes and goes especially with the warmer weather and increased oil production, so still struggling with that but washing with mineral salt does help. I used my extra energy to get up early and climb dog mtn full of beautiful wildflowers yesterday. SO sore today but it was worth it.

We have a cross country move coming up in less than a month that was just confirmed last week. I am thankful I'm on the whole30 because I actually have the energy and motivation to do what I need to do! I am nervous about reintroduction, but I'm excited for some flavor change. I'm getting bored with my food, but a lot of that is I just don't have a ton of time right now to prep with the move coming up and a toddler running around. :)

Question for the veterans doing this round - have you tried different ways of doing the reintroduction? How do you prefer to do it? Right now I'm thinking that I'm going to split up different kinds of dairy because I'm almost positive I'm sensitive to it, but I want to know if it's all of it. I also think I'm not going to reintroduce sugar until it's really, really worth it. I think I am going to reintroduce natural sweeteners though to see how those affect me. I guess I'm just weighing my options and trying to process so I know exactly what my plan is next week.

I don't see a problem with splitting up the dairy. It just means your re intro will be a few days longer that's all. I know in my own case before this I couldn't have milk, so I won't be re introing it at all, but will try cheese and cream. I'd do them on different days because each are different and I'd want to know exactly which on is bothering me.

Day 28! Excited for reintro. I've decided to reintro only legumes, then non-gluten grains, then alcohol. I have an all day concert coming up soon after reintro, will be bringing my own snacks and having some alcohol. I've decided to avoid dairy and gluten all together until I really want some cheese for a special occasion.

This past week I've been struggling with many headaches, fatigue and leg cramps at night. Definitely no tiger blood! I've been adressing adrenal fatigue issues for over a year now so I guess it's to be expected since I've been under a lot of stress for the past couple weeks. I've never experienced leg cramps this often before whole30 and wondering if anyone knows why this happens? It's at least every other night! I always take natural calm magnesium. I drink plenty of water.

Still having dreams about food (ice cream, cheese quesadilla)  but I don't have any cravings for any of that!

I'll continue eating Whole30ish after my concert and probably will do another Whole30 until I get my hormones fixed.

Day 28, I found it to be extra difficult on Fri., two days ago after work, just really wanting some pot, so many are drinking and getting together. I hardly ever drink but have a strong association with fun family memories/laughs especially with some family that have passed away from cancer, and was craving pot from memory association. But I knew I would regret not keeping my commitment to myself so I didn't. My family all live thousands of miles away. I haven't seen most of them in 3 years but we are having a reunion in July. Unfortunately there's a lot of family conflict and stress lately, hopefully that settles before then.

I've stopped fruit just for this last week and it does seem to have improved my eczema, so there is likely some yeast overgrowth there. Next week I'll try reintroducing just green apples due to low sugar content. Cleansing with sea salt has been a great help as well.

I'm going to be reintroducing first coconut milk as it has affected me in the past, then white rice, and then corn. I already know dairy is a no for my system, which is why I really hope coconut milk will be ok, that can satisfy creamy cravings just fine. I got a native forest brand calling my name in a few days, it may have been the guar gum in other brands that hurt before, I'm fine with dried coconut. I do look forward to the Seattle weekend trip middle of June after reintro phase is finished. Good luck everone, have a good week.

I cannot believe it's already day 28. Insane! I'm excited for reintroduction. I'm starting with natural sweeteners. I'm planning on avoiding sugar as much as I can. I'm also going to be dividing up the different types of dairy. We are driving across the country very shortly after my reintroduction, and I'm going to do everything I can to make conscious food choices and stay on my diet plan, but I'm also going to stay away from beating myself up if I'm not able to.

I cannot believe it's day 30!! I'm so proud of my self and my husband for staying with the plan.  I'm really looking forward to a glass of wine tomorrow.  That has been the toughest part for me.  For my husband it's the late night snacking, but frozen berries has been a life savor.  Although I know they prefer you not to snack, it did satisfy the cravings at night.  I went to buy some clothes last week and had to go down a size! I'm excited to get on the scale tomorrow to see how much we have both lost.  I have measured my self and Know I'm down 7+ inches, so that is real progress right there!  Were planning on continuing whole 30 but will make small adjustments for our life style. We both feel amazing and have a new appreciation for eating clean and healthy.  Thank you Whole 30!

Yay! Day 30! I feel the same as the above, going to stick with whole 30, with small adjustments, I feel better in my joints and I need to finally get rid of this 11 year old baby weight! :/ So it's been good to feel that working.

However, I have a question.... I struggle with all the cooking! I have been enjoying it, but it doesn't feel like it's become a habit yet... more like something I have to do to eat. Not that I don't cook, but I relied a lot on Trader Joe's (before whole30) and their frozen section to keep my family and I fed! I am going to stop ordering out so much, because we have saved a lot this month on that! But any suggestions for whole 30 compliant, "easy" meals?  That's been my biggest struggles, I don't  like making salads at home, because it's too hard to keep all the fun, yummy things fresh and available all the time. My family is picky and doesn't eat all the veggies I like to eat. Anyway... that's the biggest challenge I'm facing (that and really wanting some sourdough bread and butter!) Lol!

My staple weeknight dinner recipe is some kind of protein (usually chicken or beef) marinated the night before + chopped sauteed veggies (think fajitas). It's pretty quick (around 30min if you need to slice the veggies), cheap and by varying the veggie and spices marinade you can keep it interesting. I've recently started making the same stuff in skewer format, or making beef patties instead of diced beef- same food different look.

You can also add some cauliflower rice or quinoa if you're including that in your post-W30 diet.

Soups and stews are great for winter and also super super easy, just steam the veggies, add spices and blend (also great to make them eat different veggies as they won't see them).

Roasted veggies are also a great option to make ahead in big batches. You can mix them with different proteins, greens and grains and you have a W30 compliant easy dinner ready.

Good luck on reintro starting tomorrow!
