Shelly B
Does anyone know if coconut milk requires refrigeration after opening? Google results were inconclusive. I'd like to take a can on a short trip, but won't have access to a can opener or fridge.
SummerGirl
What length of a trip? It'd be fine in a container for the day if you were travelling and wanted to bring it open. Otherwise, for longer spells, yes it does require refrigeration after opening.
Moderators Tom Denham Posted January 16, 2013 Moderators Share Posted January 16, 2013 You do not need to refrigerate an unopened can. You must refrigerate leftovers after opening the can and they should be refrigerated in a new container.
praxisproject
If you'll be without a fridge, freeze it in icecube trays and put in a thermos/insulated container. Sometimes you can find teeny tiny cans too, if you can get those, might be easier to take a couple and a can opener. Or just a can with a self-opening lid. I often put coconut cream (it's thicker than the milk) in little dressing containers, portable single serves and you can freeze them to keep them cold longer.
