Lyn1
Apologies if this has already been answered, but I didn't see it. (I looked.) Can we have vanilla beans to flavor things? Is it considered a legume? Also, I think that vanilla extract is out because of the alcohol but I have seen conflicting info b/c some of the recipes on here have vanilla extract in them. Moderators Tom Denham Posted June 29, 2012 Moderators Share Posted June 29, 2012 You can flavor with vanilla. According to Wikipedia... Vanilla is a flavoring derived from orchids of the genus Vanilla, I've never found vanilla extract without alcohol, but I keep looking.
Adagio
The only alcohol-free (gluten-free) vanilla extract I've found is made with glycerin, unfortunately.
habitualpurpose
I think if you were to use the bean and not the extract (and thus avoid the alcohol or glycerin) it would be okay.
