How much fruit is everybody eating?

I try to limit mine to only 2 servings of approved fruit per day - This is how I get my "sweet" without chocolate, there has to be some pleasure in eating right? Protein and veges just gets alittle bland from time to time - just wondering how much everyone else is eating?

I cut them out except as ingredients in larger dishes (grated apple in braised red cabbage--or pear blended into a marinade for meat). I was using them to get a sweet "hit" and realized they were, in effect, feeding my sugar dragon.

I do much better overall if I avoid fruit as much as possible right now.

I don't eat it every day but if something looks really good at the store (lately organic mangoes) I eat however much I feel like. Which is like, half a mango because they are pretty big. I keep dried fruit around like figs and apricots and date and usually eat 2-3 of them. Sometimes I like a banana. I have not found eating fruit to be a hindrance to w30 working for me, but then desserts were never my problem. Post w30 I struggle more passing up the wine and cheese than sweets.

I rarely have fruit--maybe once or twice a week if that. Like today, I have a curried chicken salad and i had 6 grapes cut up in it. Yesterday we got some blueberries at the store so I had a palmful with dinner. I prefer veggies over fruit anyway.

I am similar to ladyM. Fruit = sugar for me. It pushes other more nutritious foods off of my plate. I never have liked meat and fruit together. I did make a massaged kale salad the other day and added dried cranberries to it. I found myself mad when I took a bite that had no cranberry.

I rarely eat fruit, never been big on them anyway. If something looks delicious in the store, like strawberries at the moment, I may buy some. However, if I had a sugar dragon, and I was using fruit to feed it, I would eliminate it altogether.

I try my best to limit myself to 2 a day... sometimes I get to 3 or even 4  When I do have it, I always fill my plate according to the template, then have a serving of fruit on the side. So it's not pushing nutritious foods off my plate, it's just adding unnecessary sugar. I guess that's just as bad, but fruit is just so delicious! I stopped buying as much so I don't eat as much anymore, we'll see how the rest of my 30 days go.

I have been trying to limit fruit as much as possible. Had 2 strawberries and 5 blackberries in a salad the other day, and had about the same amount as a dessert at family BBQ Sunday, but that is the only fruit I've had in the past week. We are doing apple pork later this week which will be another dose of fruit, but overall I am trying to avoid it when possible.

I myself struggle with the fruit! I feel like I probably have way too much. I have an apple with breakfast and I can't get enough of frozen organiccherries which iI snack on after dinner :/ I should probably cut them out or at least down to one.

Never for breakfast, 1 serving with lunch daily and once or twice a week at supper. Sometimes I do have a small snack after a workout of a small handful of grapes with six or seven almond - I did this probably every day my first week of whole 30, now maybe twice a week.

Fruit is usually a once-a-day thing for me, although I ate more this week because I had a cold. I eat it with the meal in addition to veggies. It doesn't affect my sugar dragon unless I eat too much at once. (Too much = 10 strawberries instead of more veggies, fruit, and meat.)

2-3 servings per day for me....as long as I don't consume too much fruit at one given meal...If I eat too much at one time, I find myself getting very hungry in between meals and craving more sweets. But keeping my servings at 1/2-1 per meal works best for me... I don't think I've ever gone a day without fruit...It's essential for my own personal whole30 survival :)

I have been having a cup of berries after breakfast and after dinner. Too much? I don't have any dried fruit at all. I love my berries and they are so good for you. I don't feel like it is a substitute for sugar, its just part of my meal. Am I wrong?

I'm on Day 3 (complete with a peeling face, rash on my arms and legs, and a crappy run in the morning!). I actually didn't have any fruit yesterday. I had about a cup of berries with my lunch on Day 1, which is what I plan to do today. I will probably limit my fruit to an approved serving with lunch and perhaps also with dinner on the days that I have a second training session in the evening. The grocery store across the street from my house did some major renovations last year and put in a giant organic section. I have been unable to resist the cartons of strawberries and blueberries (sometimes they are as big as grapes!) and I had never even liked fresh blueberries before! As ideal as these fruits are (along with some blackberries for extra fiber) I intend to mix it up a bit with my fruit choices to get out of my comfort zone. Luckily, I got a fruit share along with my Summer CSA, so I'll just quit shopping for fruit and stick to whatever the farm gives me. If things are going well over the next few weeks, I may take a chance on a bit of unsweetened dried fruit.

I eat next to none. Dried fruit, mostly, mixed with some macadamia/hazelnuts/dry coconut or in some of my meals I make for dinner.

They are triggers for me to eat sweets right now. I want to add the berries back in, plus I want to make banana 'ice cream' soon!

With a huge variety of vegetables, I don't think I am missing critical nutrients.

I eat 1-2 servings of fresh fruit a day, if I am in the mood. That means I am cutting a gargantuan orange, banana or pear in half to yield a single serving. I find fresh fruit eaten with a meal does not affect my sugar dragon. Now dried fruit (esp raisins.....why are they on my grocery list today???? Not a good idea) is different and I plan to steer clear from Larabars. I used Larabars twice already in my 10 days into my 3rd? 4th? Attempt at Whole30. I don't eat them much, but used them in a situation when I needed portable food. No Bueno. They didn't send me into a downward spiral, but it was like I had not eaten anything despite downing almost 300 calories and, ugh, 20 some odd grams of sugar!!!! (Really surprised they are Whole30 compliant!). I really have never been a fan of Larabars for that reason....

  • 2 years later...

I relied heavily on fruit in the beginning. I was eating quite a bit. I always eat at least 2 apples a day and usually papaya, watermelon and cantaloupe also. Kiiwi, avocado, banana... it all has helped me stay on the program. Now that I am on day 15 I am not eating as much. I am a fruit eater anyway, even before whole30.

It's a sad day when we cut out these yummy, juicy, healthy, satisfying balls of goodness thinking they're our enemies! Been there, done that! Now I enjoy a piece or two a day. Sugar, schmugar! They are real food!!

I eat 1 maybe 2 servings a day depending on my activities. A banana during a long bike ride is a great substitute for a Power Bar or 5 Hour energy. I am happy to have eliminated Red Bull and 5 Hr Energy from my diet.  I am lucky that I have never craved sugar (candy, cake, cookies, ice cream etc) so I don't feel like I am missing those things.  Also I mix dried fruit with raw slivered almonds, raw sunflower seeds and raw pumpkin seeds for a quick pick me up (when needed).

I eat fruit but use it like a condiment.  Thrown into a salad, over vege, a protein dish or used for a balsamic reduction. 1-2 servings aday and not every day.

I don't eat fruit standing alone or inbetween meals.  It pairs well with meals.

I'm not snackity.  Haven't snacked in a couple of years... 4-5 hours between meals. My uzhe.

Fruit is not the enemy but a compliant Whole 30 could consist of fruits and nuts instead of meals.   Technically correct but snackity.  Cooking is required for best results.  Fruit used as a condiment works for me.  I stick mostly to berries for the least sugar content.
