    Wow, I can’t believe how many responses this post got, I didn’t get any the last time I did W30! You are all so great for supporting eachother. For anyone still getting used to this, just know that it will get easier and you sort of start to ENJOY prepping your food and trying new recipes. Some essentials for me are: hardboiled eggs- I do 6 at a time so I always have them on hand for a quick breakfast. The easiest way to make them is to boil for 1 minute and then cover for 12-15 minutes. They come out perfect every time! frozen veggies - just discovered frozen riced veggies made by green giant! I like them because I don’t have to worry about them going bad if I don’t use them right away and they are ready in 5-6 minutes. Lara Bars/RX Bars- I try to use these for emergencies only. I keep them in my purse, my desk at work, and at home. Chicken/turkey meatballs- there are so many different recipes on Pinterest for these. I end up making a double batch and freeze the extras so I have them available. Fruit- I only have fruit once per day, usually with breakfast. However, if I’m hungry after lunch and dying to snack on some chocolate or office cake- I find that handful of blueberries or an apple with almond butter and cinnamon cures that. Chicken sausage- always read the ingredients, but these are awesome to have for a quick dinner. They cook in 10-12 minutes and are a good alternative to cookout food like hot dogs or meat that was marinated in non compliant ingredients. Seltzer water & tea- make sure you check the labels though! Some teas have soy in them or sweetners. products I have in my fridge and pantry are: tessamaes dressing, compliant mustard, primal kitchen mayo, tomato paste, compliant chicken or vegetable broth, coconut milk, almond flour, coconut oil, olive oil, coconut aminos, and ghee. Another huge inspiration for me is following Whole30 people on Instagram. I am a huge fan of NoCrumbsLeft and a few other bloggers. They are always posting great tips. We’ve got a few stages to go through, but remember that making the decision to do this was huge. I hope everyone makes it through and gets to feel that awesome Tiger blood!     Diabetes Reversed in 90 Days!

    I have never written a testimonial. I am so happy to be writing one now! I started Whole30 on January 2, 2018. I had been taken off diabetes medication because I could not manage the medication. My A1C reading was 7.7 and I was on a wait list to see a specialist in internal medicine to see what medication I could take to manage the diabetes. My liver enzymes were in the high 90's. I was entirely Whole30 compliant for 30 days. I had my A1C test at about day 21 and it was 7.1. After years of seeing movement upward only I was ecstatic. The diabetes educator was skeptical and said well of course your blood sugar is good because you have cut all carbs. I showed her my food diary. Oh you are eating carbs ( I need potatoes almost daily)...oh this is a plan you could stay on for life...I had lost 12 pounds too! That was Day 21! I asked my Dr. to not move forward with any medication until after my next A1C test and after seeing the specialist. I still stuck to the Whole30 plan but was not so diligent about food labels. I did not do any reintroduction but did have a couple of items that contained dairy and sugar a couple of times. On April 13th I had the A1C test and got results today. I am at 6.1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't really say Day 102 Whole30, but after 102 days on the plan, I have reversed diabetes, the internal medicine doc says no need for ANY medication whatsoever! My liver enzymes are normal! And I have lost 30 pounds! While I am still considered pre-diabetic that will change too! Thank you Whole30!!!

    Forgive me Forum, for I have sinned. In the name of the hard-boiled eggs, and of the broccoli, and of the seltzer. My last confession was . . . ok, this is my first confession. This is my first Whole30 and I am 6 days in. I don’t know how to bring this up tactfully, but I am fraught with sinful thoughts. There’s this – there’s this thing. I am weak. I am jealous. I am lustful. I knew a day, not so long ago, where I could turn to a special somebody in times of celebration, in times of sorrow, and in the minutia of everyday life, but I had to turn him away. Some relationships are too passionate to ever be tamed. Even though I don’t come home to him saying hi to me from our dining room table, I feel like I can still hear him calling my name. It’s not that I don’t love him anymore. Our lives, our love is inextricably bound. While I haven’t called him since starting Whole30, I think about him when I pull the covers up over my shoulders when I first wake up. I think about him when I’m furiously writing down last-minute notes before my Contracts class. I think about him when I’m pressing the lock button on my car keys when I can’t remember which floor of the parking garage I parked on. I made a resolute promise to myself and to my friends that I wouldn’t even look him in the eye during this whole process, much less touch him. With each passing minute, I can see the embers getting closer to catching the wind and starting a wildfire, a fire beyond anyone’s control. The closer the sun gets to the horizon, the closer I can feel myself lunging to him. How can I not think of him? He is smooth. He is robust. He is creamy. He is in the deli counter at Kroger. He’s goat cheese. I love you, goat cheese. I can’t be with you now, but in 24 days, we’ll be together again! I love our love, I don’t care what anyone says! These are my impure thoughts. I am sorry for these and all the sins of my past life We give thanks to the Forum for She is good. For Her mercy endures forever.

    Hmm... @ShannonM816 ... Extinction Burst or a Hormonal PMS Hurricane...? Like @tutormom I was also feeling pretty great, in control, steady till about mid week this week when out of the blue PMS hit me like a ton of bricks. Terrible insomnia, extremely irritable mood and powerful junk cravings. It's been a very long time since I've noticed any PMS issues till now. But this week, my last week of Whole30, I went from happy Tiger Blood to Bloody Murder--Eat All The Things--Kill All The Things. I really regret not seeing earlier all of the helpful advice here on the forums re upping your carbs before PMS strikes. Lesson learned! Ouch. I do not want to experience this awful PMS week again. I'll be much more mindful next month to carb-prep in hopes of heading off the PMS tidal wave. This bad week is another reason I'm going to do another round of Whole30 in May...my sugar dragon had been in retreat, but this week came roaring back and scaring the beejeezus out of me.     When I wrote the original post of my experience as of Day 29, I was upbeat and happy, and glad to share my "success story". Then I read the reply by Tom Denham, a Moderator for the Whole30 program. If I had written a response yesterday, it would have been a short two word reply, but I decided to think about it and sleep on it. I did both and here is my reply to Tom and to others. Tom, you are implying that I did not complete the Whole 30 program and that I failed because I chose to weigh myself during the 30 days. You couldn't be more wrong....and you can't take that achievement away from me. I was 100% faithful to the food rules...let me repeat, 100% faithful. And for doing that, I was rewarded with many positive changes, physically and mentally. Tom, if you had read my post with an open-heart, you would realize how wrong your statement was when you said that I let the scale guide my behavior...if that was true, I would have stopped the program on Day 7 or 8 when I stopped losing any more weight. But I didn't stop because of all the other positive things that where happening, as I outlined in my original post. You may think I was not fully engaged in the program and you are free to have that opinion...but I felt fully engaged and reaped positive rewards for my efforts. The only negative experience I had during the past 30 days was reading Tom's reply which felt shaming and pious.

    Don't over think this.

    Welcome all newcomers, welcome back vets, and for those of you who never left...welcome to this post. I just wanted to pop in here and remind you all to take a deep breath before you dive into all the questions about what you can and can't have. The program guidelines are clear on what you can and can't have (grains, dairy, W30 muffins), but things get a little grey when people start talking about what you should and shouldn't have. Please don't over think think this. You don't have to address every food related issue you have, break every bad habit, and shun every food that gives you comfort to succeed with your Whole30. If you need to you can always extend or repeat the process, and things will get better each time you do. My advice to you is this: Stick to the rules like they are your port in a storm (really, they will become that). Take the Moderators responses seriously (we know what we're talking about). Take community members suggestions as advice from those who came before, but keep in mind they are not the rules and not the Mods. Everyone here is well-meaning, and everyone here wants to see you succeed, but everyone here is at a different place in this journey. And finally, take comfort in these words (from Melissa Hartwig, on another forum post): Here's the thing (and this is an interesting discussion)... there are Whole30 "rules," which are strict, clearly outlined, and very well defined. No grains - and here are all the things we consider grains. No dairy - and here are all the dairy items excluded. No Paleo-fied food choices, and here's what those look like. Then, there are Whole30 suggestions for success. They're not part of the official rules, but they're things that we've seen really help (or harm) people as they move through the program. Fruit smoothies for breakfast - not a good idea. Skipping breakfast - not a good idea. Eating every two hours, all day - not a good idea. These things won't necessarily affect your Whole30 results (although they might), but if we can give you additional suggestions that will make your transition and your program easier and more effective, we're going to give them to you. Keep Calm and Whole30 On.

    Quick check in (I should be working right now) -- just had to tell you all about my NSV this weekend. I've been disappointed with my jeans that I just bought a couple months ago because they're stretched out and don't fit well already -- what a waste of money. So went to buy a replacement yesterday and realized that I've dropped a size! No wonder those pants didn't fit Also, can't get this smug look off my face, but I earned it!     Hi all. I haven't posted much on here but I have been keeping up with my Whole30 Day by Day journal. I really have been enjoying it. I think it has kept me motivated this time around. I was starting to get discouraged because as I read other people saying things like I've fit into my skinny jeans or I'm down a size or I've peaked at the scale and I'm down 10lbs. (This was the reason I pulled away from the forum.) I've felt a mental shift and took the desperation out of it. Yes I'm hoping for weight loss but the main reason I decided to do the W30 this time was to correct some digestive issue and I've done that. I'm seeing the improvements that I was hoping for so I need to take that as a huge victory. Before I couldn't go more that a few days without eating something sweet and now I've gone 19 days and I don't even crave fruit to use as a substitute for dessert. I'm trying to change behavior more then just following a set of rules. I'm already thinking about what happens on Day 31. I'm planning on relaxing the "no added sugar" rule so that I can eat the bacon, sausage and ham that I have in my freezer but I will still stay away from things like ketchup and BBQ Sauce and Salad dressings. I want to do this for 30 days. I'm thinking every 30 days to reintroduce something but in the end it won't be a lot because I was really eating W30 before by with dairy. Think of it as a really slow reintroduction. NSV - I got a manicure the first week of April and my fingers still look good. Unfortunately, no tiger blood here. I was hoping my sleep would improve but it hasn't been consistent. This is another reason why I think I need more that just 30 days to see the improvements I want which is totally ok with me.

    For those not feeling the Tiger Blood yet, don't despair! First, it can mean different things for different people and often it's not 'peel me off the ceiling energy' but rather 'wow, I feel really stable or good or positive or bright'. Second, at this point some times people think they've got the template memorized and as they've been progressing, a little fat gets left off here, some starchy carbs forgotten there, too little protein because that one time you forgot to take something out of the freezer etc... Loop back to the meal template and make sure you're eating to match the template. If you're eating between meals, have it be protein and fat, not fruit, nuts, nut butters, dried fruit or other 'snacky' type items. Make sure you're salting your food and drinking 1/2oz of water per pound of bodyweight every day and then be patient... many of us have not been kind to our bodies over the years and while 30 days can seem like an eternity, it's not altogether that long and none of you are AT 30 days yet so keep down the path and have faith that you're nourishing your bodies and treating yourselves with respect and dignity and everything else will follow!

    Happy Halfway team! (at least most folks here, I'm Day 15) Ditto all the above: prep prep prep. Until or if I get to be a super fast whiz at this prep business, I pretty much have to count on devoting a least half my Sunday's to Whole30 meal prep for the week. It's totally worth it though, I've enjoyed it and learned a lot. I'm cooking way more food, and more interesting and healthy food than before, because I HAVE to. I can't fill my meals with quick easy junk carbs any more (astounded how much I did that before Whole30). I'm making everything from scratch now, and that takes some time. Speaking of prep: I need to say how I am ridiculously proud of myself for making homemade sunflower seed butter today. So easy and yummy. Couldn't find any compliant jars in my stores around here. And I'm glad I couldn't, since making it was fun and cheaper too. I feel like today I became "next level" Whole30. Like I said, I'm unduly proud. Next highest level I think would be if I ever make ghee :-) Great job folks on your first two weeks and cheers to everyone for the next half!

    The Sugar Dragon was mauling me good today! I was stuck in the slooooooowest line at Wal-Mart, all the while surrounded by candies and cookies and chips. Those checkout lines are a death trap. I was so close to buying a candy bar but I stayed strong. Then this afternoon I made two trays of cookies and two lasagnas for my sister-in-law who just had a baby. I had cookie dough all over my fingers and had to repeat to myself "Don't lick them! Don't lick them!"

    Day four was awful. My final day at work this week was difficult and tomorrow is my birthday. I just wanted to come home and have a glass of wine and eat some pizza. It definitely has been the worst day for cravings. And even though I I'm full and ate a good quality Whole30 dinner I still feel like I could eat a large popcorn and a large pizza and wash it down with a bunch of Sour Patch Kids and a big old glass of wine. That might be a little extreme but right now it really all sounds amazing. Clearly it is very difficult to break habits like end of the week celebrations. I have gone to bed to keep myself away from the food and I'm laying here watching TV and reading everyone's posts from today. Always reassuring to know that I am not alone.

    @tutormom I can’t tell you how relieved I am to hear someone is also struggling a bit!! I couldn’t get the words right... But you put it perfectly!! I’ve made it over two weeks without any major problems - but man have I struggled yesterday and today. I want ALL THE THINGS. And I am SUPER grumpy about not being able to have them. Thank you @ShannonM816 for explaining this “extinction burst.” It makes a lot of sense. Logically, I know I have so many Victories (scale and non-scale), but emotionally, I just want the pan of brownies my husband requested for dessert tonight. Or a glass of wine!! Sigh. I’m even dreading a bit the reintroduction period. I know this is essential, but those extra days are stretching out in my mind... And it scares me because I’m afraid I’m going to just go nuts when this is over. So yes, I am also in need of encouragement... Hanging in there... by a thread...

    Day 13 Here too and doing great! Some days sluggish, mostly not though. I keep finding more interesting things to eat that I enjoy and are Whole30 approved. Monday will be tough. I have to bring the dessert, yes, make one, to a luncheon potluck. I don’t plan on eating anything at the potluck. Knowing this group nothing will even approach Whole30 approved. I’m the only one bringing dessert, so I can’t pull off the bring fruit with this totally unhealthy crowd. I do still have cravings but move on. Started exercising again on Whole30 last week. How is everyone else doing???? Be encouraged, Dianne

    Day 13... 2nd weekend. Sticking with the plan, Get away from the house. Hike planned for this morning then a trip to the grocery store. Last night was a little tough, thinking about closing the work week off with a drink, bad habit trying to break, as the book suggested found something else to do. The children, visiting this weekend, came home to an empty refrigerator and pantry.... supportive, but kept looking for a snack. Energy bounced back this week,Morning runs are back to normal, energy wise, and not as tired throughout the day. My wife is still a little sluggish, hoping to break through that feeling this weekend. Good luck!!! Almost halfway there!!

    Well... successfully made it through TWO rounds of one of my chunks of kryptonite: pizza for lunch, and watching husband eat pizza for dinner. I HAVE subsisted on pizza. I have made my OWN pizza out of desperation (tasted GREAT to me...) Today I wanted to get a T-SHIRT made: NSV IN YOUR FACE!!! Was not tempted. Not even slightly...And when the realization hit me...I confess, there is an NSV dance... it's not pretty...

    NSV - I tried on a pair of jeans that were too tight two weeks ago and I couldn't wear them. Today they are still a little tight - but they button easily! Day 10 and rocking it!!!

    Oh my goodness, you guys! Zoodles!!! Last week I was lax on getting my vegetables so that's what I'm focusing on this week. I made some butternut squash zoodles with meatballs and pasta sauce, it was delicious! It wasn't Pasta Carbonera or anything, but it was a very tasty, fun way to get some veggies into my meal. I am going to spiralize all the vegetables!

    Haha I've had dreams about Diet Coke and rice. Funny thing is that I didn't eat either more than occasionally before I started. The dream about diet coke was so convincing that I woke up and started planning how I was going to restart... This weekend I've been focusing on "getting my life in order" as I say. I cleaned on Saturday (including wiping down all my shelves and washing the floors). I live in a city with bad air quality, so things get pretty gritty and dirty regardless of what I do. I also don't have AC, so with the spring and summer coming the windows are open, which adds to the mess. Today I'm doing meal prep. This week we're working 14 hour days Mon-Sat, so I have to have food ready to pack and eat. I'm turning into somewhat of a Mel Joulwan fangirl. I bought her cookbooks and am planning on making Meat and Spinach Muffins for breakfast and a variety of dishes for lunch/dinner: 1. Best Chicken Ever () 2. Garlic Lime Shrimp 3. Bora Bora Fireballs 4. Pork Char Siu and Fried Cauliflower Rice I'm about to put the meats in to marinade and then head to my local store for the produce I didn't buy yesterday. Busy day ending with Church and an Italian lesson. Best of luck on week 2, all! -S

    I'm brand new here and also on my first Whole30 journey. I started April 2. Was looking for some support & encouragement, and it looks like maybe I've found it here! Felt crummy this morning and was contemplating being a quitter, but I think I'll stick with it and follow along with you all. =) My main goal is to get high cholesterol under control without medication. I'm 59, relatively fit, not overweight, and I follow a "good" diet, but I know I need to do much better. My cholesterol has been creeping up since my late 40's. Last time it was 399. Don't faint! I'm not worried about it. HDL & Tris are both fine; it's just the LDL out of whack, and I don't tolerate statins, so I won't go that route. I really believe that reducing (eliminating on whole 30) sugars & grains will make a difference. Haven't been able to force myself to do that before. I hope you all are feeling well today! Less than a month to go!!! ;-)

    Don't over think this.

    thanks so much for this post! I am on my first whole30 ever (or whole100 if I have my way) and have started to stress out a little bit today. I was actually upset with myself for having 3 pieces of fruit and cashew butter on two different occasions. did I stick to the rules? yes. could my food choices have been better? yes. did I drink diet coke and have cookies for breakfast like I did a week ago? nope. so that is success. I don't want to get discouraged and worry about how I can cook my veggies/meat/whatever.
