This past week hasn't gone well. I didn't plan very well and the past few days has been just grabbing stuff and making what I could. I also think I'm going to have to give up coffee. Every time I've tried to drink some I barely finish the cup and I have a headache, and on top of that I'm just not feeling well today. I know some of it is just not enough food, but it's also been cold and raining for about a week now and it's depressing. I'm so glad the sun is out today, although it's still cold. I have to do better next week and make sure I have enough to eat for breakfast and during my day at work. I really just want to go home and go back to bed.

@NatPatBen - at my Kroger in the organic / gluten free section there's a freezer section and they have frozen waffles, pizzas, etc. that are gluten free. They have one frozen pizza made with a rice flour crust so it's gluten free. Your dinner sounds wonderful!

My husband also informed me that this diet is giving me bad breath. Anyone else had that info shared with them and what are you doing about it?

Good to know I wasn't the only one who got fed up and wanted to quit. I was so close to buying a rice crust pizza last night and I talked myself down. I knew I had Kahlua Pig in the fridge already cooked and it just needed reheating with veggies. No reason to buy a pizza. Besides, I wanted comfort food, and I knew it. Even a rice crust pizza. I wanted pizza to feel better, not just to eat. I didn't plan yesterday well. I procrastinated, ended up with no breakfast, late to work, and was hungry all day. That's why I wanted the pizza. I'm also sick and tired of cooking. I did the bare minimum yesterday, just enough to make sure I had lunch today and I was up in time to make my breakfast, but I'm really, really tired of prep work and cooking. I need to use the slow cooker more. Tonight we're going to a friend's house, so I need to eat something before we go. Saturday is my son's birthday and he wants to go to Golden Corrall, so I'm going to mix up some dressing from Well Fed to bring with me and I'll have a steak and salad, maybe a sweet potato from the bar. For exercise, I started 30 min 3x week doing workouts on You Tube. I ended up doing 1 workout, and this week I've done 1 workout. I'm keeping it simple but I know it's important to incorporate exercise. I like "healthy movement" . It sounds better. Got a free treadmill yesterday too, so if I'm watching TV I need to be on the treadmill. I've been craving orange juice for some reason and I also have to stay away from Lara bars. I've fallen back on the coconut cream too often. I feel good, I'm glad I'm doing this, but I'm really getting tired and frustrated. I guess it's bringing up some food issues, though, and I guess that's part of the point.

Still doing well. Have the Kahlua Pig from Nom Nom's at home in the slow cooker. It cooked all night and hubby will be bringing me some for lunch. I have hormonal acne, and it's starting, but I only have two bumps instead of the half dozen or so, and no painful acne cysts either. Those are the worst, IMO. Those who tried the jicama home fries, try them again in a few months. Hubby didn't like them either, really, and no, they're not going to be as soft as potatoes, but I really, really love them. This is how I do it - clean and halfway peel them. You don't have to peel them all the way. Cut into chunks, like potatoes, and add to slow cooker. Cover in water about 1 inch. Prepare in slow cooker about 6-7 hours instead of the 12-24 Drain and keep in fridge until ready to cook Heat coconut oil in skillet. Saute onions (I also added some peppers). Instead of taking these out of the pan, I leave them in. Add Jicama in one layer. I do have a huge skillet, so I add them in one layer and let them sit about 5 min. Stir to turn, let sit another five minutes. Add seasoning. I mix the seasoning together and blend, then add. Stir again, let sit five minutes. Put into serving bowl and be sure to get the onions and peppers as well so it's all mixed together. They will still be a bit crunchy, but these are really one of my favorite new recipes. Started adding exercise last week.

We have these little peppermint lifesavers at church all over and it's a habit to grab a few. Just as we started this we went to midweek service and I grabbed a couple and was handing them to my husband and remembered - can't have them! They're still in my purse.

I was so tired the other day, but today I feel great. I'm also trying to get more sleep, going to bed at 10:15-10:30 is the goal. I haven't had any food dreams, but I did dream last night that me, hubby and son were on a cruise ship but we were down in a hold area with animals - some donkeys and baby goats - and when we got where we were going I wouldn't sell the baby goats because the people wanted to eat them. I've done well with cravings and recognized emotional triggers. I had a bad day two days ago, one of those days where you want to go home, go to bed and cry. I had to stay at work though, and I got through it without going off plan. Unfortunately I was so upset I really didn't eat much. I ate some of my eggs I'd brought from home and drank tea. I didn't have an appetite, but I didn't eat ice cream, chocolate and pizza either. Yesterday I wanted orange juice for some weird reason. And I discovered coconut creme Lara bars - have to limit them, if I buy more than one I will eat them all. Loving the Jicama home fries in Well Fed. I will make more this weekend along with more mayo. I made mayo from Nom Nom's recipe a few days ago and it turned out wonderful. Our son's birthday is on the 19th. Originally he was going out with his girlfriend, now they're not, and he wants to go to Golden Corral for dinner. Have to check out the eating out boards to see what I can eat there.

I've made the jicama home fries twice and will be making them again, they're my new favorite. You don't have to peel it all the way. I cooked mine for about 6-12 hours the day before then made the home fries the next day. So, so good! I could eat them forever.

It's my day 8 and I'm feeling really good today. Not "on top of the world" good but a nice, steady good. I did have a Kill All the Things meltdown over the weekend when I felt all I did was cook and clean, cook and clean. I made venison burgers Friday night and it took two hours to cook the two pounds I'd thawed. I felt better after I finally ate. I ate two of them standing at the stove, then another one with my veggies during my "proper" dinner. I'm still about 40-45# overweight and I don't crossfit either. I would love to try, but it's so expensive and I would not be able to do burpees, pull-ups, etc. But I did get out my dumbbells and started back with weight training yesterday, and that felt SOOOO good! I may not be able to change my legs (due to my lipedema) but I am going to work them anyway and have a good looking upper body for spring / summer. I bought Well Fed before Christmas and got the PDF download special too. The book is AWESOME! I am in love with Jicama home fries. I've made them twice and I will be making them again next week. Chocolate chili is another favorite. My son made brownies last night They smelled really, really good. I didn't even taste. No weird dreams for me yet, but I slept through my alarm on Monday morning and was ten minutes late for work. But today I was asleep on time and up 45 minutes before the alarm went off. That's what I'm working on now - getting everything ready the night before and being in bed early enough to get 8 hours of sleep. I'm not sure what I miss at this point - my Splenda or gluten-free pancakes or rice crust frozen pizza. I was already wheat free / sugar free for a couple of months, but was still using Splenda and eating Kroger Deluxe ice cream with Splenda along with Pamela's pancake mix on the weekends and the $8.99!! rice crust pizza on Friday nights. I have an appointment at my endocrinologist on February 8. He's planning to run a full panel on me this time around to check my insulin resistance. I know he's going to happy with the results You're all doing so well! Hubby has already fallen off the wagon. The headaches were making him crazy, he ate pizza at work, and it made him sick. Otherwise, he eats what I make for dinner and is helping me by browning meat, chopping veggies, etc. so I don't spend a lot of time cooking during the week. Our son is 19, so he's usually at work or with his girlfriend and he's been buying his own food so I'm not making special meals for different people. I was hungry last week, but yesterday and today I felt fine. I caught myself in the kitchen last night looking for something to snack and I made myself leave the room and turn out the light. You're all doing so well! We made it through the first week! Yay us! What I've discovered my first week: AWESOME foods - jicama home fries, scrambled eggs in coconut oil, roasted butternut squash. Yum! I am stronger than I give myself credit. It's only 30 days. I can do this!

I take leftovers too, but if I don't finish them for whatever reason I pack them up and bring them home. Today I had leftover butternut squash soup and I finished it up with my dinner.

I agree restaurants will be a hassle, but why not cook together? Choose a new recipe and instead of going out, stay in and cook together, use nice dishes and plate it the way a restaurant would. If you drink tea, add a compliant tea along with your dinner (watch for soy lecithin in the flavored teas). This way you have time together and a chance to really bond over something new.

I found myself falling into the try new recipes trap and was cooking and prepping stuff all the time, as well as spending money on more spices. But this week I think I've found a good middle road, we know what some favorites are, and we're sticking with simple recipes and will try others on weekends or after Whole 30.

I felt the same way. I told my husband I was in Kitchen Jail. This also fell on the same days as the Kill All The Things part of the timeline, so that could have had something to do with my outburst. But he's been helping me as he's home during the day while I'm at work. He'll thaw something or brown the ground beef, chop vegetables, wash the dishes, so all I have to do is put stuff together.

I also started on 1/1/13. This is my first go round. I'd already started gluten free and sugar free but had been using Splenda in tea and coffee and hadn't given up dairy, although I was eating coconut yogurt and drinking almond and coconut milk in the carton, which I won't do anymore. I started playing with recipes during December and getting some pantry stuff ready up for January. So far I've missed the Splenda and my oatmeal in the morning. I've also been hungry. I know this means I need to eat more and make sure I have enough fat. It's a learning curve. Hubby is doing this with me. His struggle is working at a pizza place. He's always in his vehicle and doesn't have access to a break room with a microwave or fridge. He has to make sure all food is able to be eaten on the go. If he gets hungry, he has snacked on a pizza that wasn't picked up or was burned or otherwise messed up. He said he won't do that anymore. Tonight is his first major test of that resolve as it's his first back since the holidays. He's got a headache too. Aside from being hungry, I'm feeling fine so far. Planning ahead is definitely a key factor in succeeding with this. My goal is to reduce inflammation and basically feel better. I've lost 60 pounds but it's taken four years, and I've discovered I have a possible autoimmune / fat disorder called Lipedema. Most of my weight is in my legs, and no matter what I do that weight won't come off. All I can do is lose what I can, reduce inflammation, and keep from gaining any more.

I have recognized that I do not stick to my plan when I do it for me, sooo

Sounds like a wonderful and beautiful thing to do, Bethanny.
