LOL! You have just described me, perfectly except that my desk is at home so I don't even make the effort to go to a drive thru. I'm guilty of having wine, cheese and crackers for dinner far too often because I couldn't be bothered to fix a meal.
I'm on day 29 of my first round and found this plan much easier to stick to than I expected. I'm definitely in for another round in January.

    Hello everyone,
I'm 55 and on day 26 of my first Whole 30. I have not had one single hot flash in the last 26 days! I'm feeling better than I've ever felt in a very long time. Just got to get my act together with some meal planning and prep time.
I was training to run a half marathon (very, very slowly) but various health concerns have changed my goal to walking the 13.1 miles. I'm up to ten miles so far so I should be good for the event, in February. My training buddies are all inspired to start a new eating plan on Jan 2nd so I'll be doing my second W30 as they do their first.
Hoping I can start to run short distances again soon and build up my endurance. I'm carrying one heck of a lot of extra pounds right now but I feel as though a few of them have gone away in the last three weeks. I know that a lot of the inflammation, pain and soreness has gone away.

My grand daughters are a year old, and 2 1/2 years old. Both have pale blue gray eyes. The older girl has blonde curls, while baby doesn't have enough hair yet to determine color and texture. Blues, lilac, purple and grays look awesome on them because of those eyes. For Christmas, the family did their photos in black or gray leather jackets, black or gray t shirts and dark jeans. They all looked awesome. Both girls are tomboys but they do wear girlie stuff sometimes.

Your post made me smile, @NoMoreCrunchyCravings.  I remember several occasions when I was precepting a newer nurse and had to ask him/her to quietly stand and watch, take notes and make a list of questions for later. The patient's needs must come first especially when they're unstable. In hindsight, those crazy busy assignments were my favorite. Like you, I went home exhausted but I really felt as though I'd made a difference in someone's life. I miss that part of nursing but enjoy my work in informatics now.

They have insisted on everything pink and grey right down to the car seat, the car seat is pink!!! The stroller is pink and grey!!! All of the clothes so far are pink! I would love to see some red on a little gal

Totally this. Yes, Jill. People really have no idea and can't even imagine what it's like to work in that setting unless they've experienced it for themselves either by working in a related field or by having a family member/friend unfortunately requiring care in a setting like that. More, too, than just being socially acceptable to eat that way of inhaling junk, sometimes it's just not physically possible to inhale anything at all. Like, today, I had to send for, receive, check and then transfuse 9 units of various blood products, draw labs three times, assist with a central venous catheter placement, titrate pressors, give lots of IV fluid boluses, titrate analgesia and sedation, keep my patient stable/not crashing/not bleeding out while he was in hemorrhagic shock, etc., etc., etc. All while precepting a new nurse on the unit. And all while being the charge RN on the unit and handling staffing issues, admissions/discharges/transfers into and out of the unit, angry family members, and my own patient's loved one who, thanks to a wonderful chaplain, was just over the edge of not having a psychological breakdown over how close to death his father was. As such, I did not drink anything until 2pm. I realized this because I didn't have to pee until 4pm, when I got done with bringing my patient to the OR for further stabilization of bleeding vessels. I was fortunately able to eat a tiny mini-burger and red pepper strips around 10:30am, but only because I'd had the foresight to pack it in a ziptop baggie, and I ate it right out of the bag horse-feed style without having to get disgusting ICU germs on my food or in my mouth (this time). I ate a bit more after taking him to the OR at 4. And then again, on arriving home about 9pm.
It is unbelievably intense. And while it can be challenging to take care of ourselves during the workday, because of the work I am able to do to help others live, I wouldn't have it any other way.

Yes, and I think to some degree it can even bring us closer to God as we are really paying attention to the quality, quantity and composition of the foods we are putting into our Earthly Vessels made in God's image. Being so mindful of what we eat, how we eat it, and the ways in which we obtained it (organic, humane animal farms, lower-impact on the environment farms, etc.) are so important to bettering ourselves, it can sometimes seem like our bodies feel more pure and closer to how our essential selves should be. But perhaps this is another discussion for a different venue.

@Kathleenkp the official whole30 stance on communion is that if it's important to you, it's okay to take it. Some choose to, some choose not to, some attend churches where there's a gluten-free option and they opt for that (although there still could be off-plan ingredients) -- basically, whole30 isn't going to come between you and God, so you do what you feel is best according to your faith.

I think this is a difficult concept to grasp, for anyone who hasn't been in a busy ICU setting. Sure, there are rules about how many hours you can work between breaks but when there isn't a qualified person available to relieve you, you simply don't get a break. Many times, I've snacked on stale graham crackers and stewed coffee, standing outside a patient's room, while knowing that I had a healthy entree and a salad in the fridge. Somehow, it's socially acceptable to inhale junk in the non-food areas of the hospital but not a decent meal.
I admire all of those who are sticking to their plan, despite the challenges of working in a hospital. I work from home now, so I have it much easier than other nurses.

May I join you guys for January? I'm just a few days behind you, with day 30 coming up tomorrow. I'm not sure just how things will go next week but I know that getting back on the program will come as a relief. I've planned my dinners for the week already, with leftovers from the main meals to use as meal 1 and meal 2.
I agree that there will be a lot of new people starting in January, but I'd like to be with a few folks who are on their second (or more) go around.

I've really enjoyed reading this exchange so far. I was a PICU nurse for a long time, before taking a desk job, and often floated to the NICU. Wishing you all the best for a happy and healthy delivery. (And that shirt would look cute on a little girl, over black leggings).

@Jmb369 that would be great! On the nuts note, I have also been trying to cut down on using nuts as a snack. They are too easy to overeat, despite being convenient, and not the best source of healthy fats.

It looks as if there are at least five of us ready to begin a new Whole 30 on January 2. Maybe  we can title our forum something like January 2 Repeat for November First "Graduates"  Any other suggestions?
    So far I have @MarieRose13 @Mallorca @nataliecatalie_ @Anetters and me @jmb369
I wonder if any others are interested in joining us, maybe @irongirltrixie @britgirl @liv.88
I'm not sure why the @ formatting didn't convert some of these to notifications, but hopefully people will see this and respond.
I have learned a lot, too, during this reintroduction phase. One important fact is that my body can handle the occasional noncompliant food if it's in small amounts and it's infrequent. Last week I had a glass of stout, which was fine, and this week I had 2 pieces of pizza (wheat crust AND fresh mozarella), But I did not repeat any of those. Those were the good experiences. I had a terrible experience with a piece of chocolate cake and part of a chocolate bar -- could be the chocolate OR the sugar, but I won't be repeating either of those very soon! This week I want to experiment with lentils (no beans or peanut butter) and barley.
I am learning to make different decisions on snacks and cut back on nuts as my go-to snack. Yesterday afternoon I mixed about 1 1/2 oz. of leftover grilled salmon with 1 Tbl of mayonnaise and about 2 TBL of chopped leftover green beans for a 4 p.m. snack. It was small, satisfying, and kept me going until dinner at 7:15! I also keep homemade chicken bone broth in one-cup containers. That makes a good pre-breakfast or 4:00 p.m. snack when I need something to tide me over until the next regular meal.
I am hopeful that after a few more repetitions, I will really "get this!"

I am also starting tomorrow, 12-12-16!  I have also done Paleo but fallen off the wagon several times.
Starting is exciting! The first go around with Paleo I lost 69 pounds.. gained back 35. The weight loss is not my #1 driving force. I have IGA (autoimmune) kidney disease and need to restrict grains, dairy, legumes, and sugars. Thus to get and stay healthy, Whole30 sounds like my prescription.
For me I need to know how these "bad" foods affect me down to the cell level. Then when I start to cheat, I know just how that bite will damage my body and I can pass it by.
Sorry I am not a help with resources. Just wanted to connect our starting dates. Good luck!

Thank you so much for sharing your sugar experiences, @mhemm and @MizRik. I didn't know sugar could do that to a person. @NoMoreCrunchyCravings, I think you are right that awareness is key.
@CCLaymon,I am undecided about whether we should start a new thread or not. How do you feel about it? You have more experience with the forum, so I think I will be guided by you.
I cooked another Whole30 dinner (pork chops, roasted root vegetables [potatoes, turnip, and rutabaga tossed with ground rosemary and a splash of lemon], green salad and homemade vinaigrette), and my parents really liked it. I'd been leaving the Whole30 book on my coffee table, because I use it all the time and I haven't yet found a good place on my shelves for it. So my mom got curious and started reading it. And then she started talking it over with my dad, while I was doing something else. So then they asked me questions, which I answered as factually as possible, explaining why *I* was doing the Whole30 and the benefits I've received, but not pushing it IN ANY WAY. And the next thing I know, my dad is saying that he really wants to give it a try, and asking me to write down the title and authors for him! Goodness gracious, I never in a million years imagined my adorable 87-year-old father being interested in trying this! But I am happy that he wants to.
