    January 2nd start date

Happy Monday! I have to confess, I started my reintroduction on Saturday. I made a conscious decision that I wanted to be done. I have already done a round of W30 so for me it wasn't about proving that I could do the 30 days. And I stayed complaint for the most part. We went out and had a pork belly starter which was amazing like thick cut bacon (which I'm sure had soy and sugar in the sauce) and then I had a roasted beet salad with out the goat cheese was actually compliant. Then I had a vodka soda. I was expecting to be bloated and "hungover" on Sunday even though I only had one drink but I felt good. I haven't gotten bloated yet so I am still enjoying my flatter tummy and I have lost some weight. But I still feel like this was a successful W27 for me. I was able to navigate a non-compliant meal without going completely off the deep end. I feel better over all. I have more energy, sleep harder and my skin has been pretty much clear this whole month (aside from some hormonal breakouts with my cycle). We have decided to stick to W30 meals for the most part without being as strict on the added sugar and soy. Although I would like to stay away from soy as much as possible with the hormonal issues it can cause as I would like to conceive this fall. Enjoy your last two days and I hope everything goes well with everyone's reintroduction!

Day 25 ya'll! @Julzology I like your thinking! We get to do this for 30 days and I want to make each one count. It really is a privilege to be able to change our diets this way. The food industry these days is so quick, cheap and dirty; designed to keep the poor unhealthy. I am thankful that I have the ability to buy nitrate free sugar free humanely raised bacon. But...I have already found where we are going for our Valentines Day treat. Our plan is to continue to eat whole30 during the week and with the meals we cook at home. And to actually cook at home instead of just going out when we don't feel like cooking. Then when things come up on the weekends or special occasions we will eat what is worth it in the moment. A slow-roll reintro.

    Northern Ladies Starting January 23rd

@VictoriaChristine sorry to be nosy but I saw this tread and being from Wisconsin I was curious and I saw in your meal planner that you must be from the Fox Cities/Oshkosh area? I just moved from Appleton to Minneapolis last summer. As far as whole30 goes, Woodmans was a lifesaver. When I did my first W30 in Appleton, I saw people's suggestions about things to get at Whole Foods or Trader Joes and I always felt I was missing something. Now I have both of those stores within 5 mins but I wish I had a Woodmans! They have a great natural/organic section where you can get sausages without all the junk. I feel like we end up going to 2-3 different stores every Sunday because no store has everything we need for a good price. Best of luck on your W30 journey!

also @Julzology I did my first OrangeTheory class yesterday! It was hard but I didn't die. I think that the heart rate monitor really helped keep me in perspective. I'm definitely sore today. I want to go again I just have to decide to make the investment in the heart rate monitor. I wish they would sync with a fit bit or garmin device because I would wear something like that all the time but I also like having my results on the screen.

I am both energized and saddened by everyone's W30 experience that you have been sharing with us. This weekend was hard for me too. My husband was out of town and cooking for myself seemed more like a chore. I bought a pre-made side from Whole Foods on Friday night and cooked up some sausage to go with it. The side from Whole Foods was terrible. It gave me a horrible stomach ache (I'm starting to think I might have IBS) and I ended up eating an RX bar for dinner and then curling up in bed with peppermint tea and a movie. Saturday I struggled with cravings! I have always been the counting calories restrictions so I can enjoy other things kind of person. Like I did a work out today so I deserve this cupcake! But I fought through it had a cup of tea and checked out a book from the library and started reading. I like to remind myself that I am not a dog and food is not a reward. I am really sorry to hear about the people who have slipped up in their W30 journey. I think we can all sympathize with how you felt in those moments and most of us coming from a place of feeling guilty with every indulgence is very familiar. I know Melissa has written before (particularly with reintroduction or life after W30) about owning your choices. We are all adults and if we want to have a cupcake we can have a cupcake. Eat that cupcake and don't feel guilty about it. Cupcakes taste good and when it's your birthday or a special occasion thats ok. But don't let those decisions derail your food journey. If you want to end the cycle then end the cycle. Make something easy and complaint and feel good about that choice. You are strong! You have made it this far already so get back on that horse and recommit to the goals you had when you decided you wanted to start a W30.

    Why I quit the whole30

I believe it has been said on the forums before and I know Melissa has addressed it but just because you are doing a W30 does not mean every thing you are experiencing good or bad is a direct result of the W30. Correlation does not equal causation. In regards to getting a bad rap...people don't like feeling like what they eat is unhealthy or that you are judging them for what they eat. When you say that you are cutting out all of these foods and why it does nothing but make them feel like what they eat is bad for them. I do W30 because it makes me feel good about myself. My body feels and looks better and that makes me a happier person. I could care less about whether my random co-worker who starts her day with two diet mountain dews thinks about what I eat. W30er's have to have a thick skin. Lastly, I have done the protein shakes, I lost 20 lbs quickly in 2012 by having slim fast for breakfast and lunch. But I was miserable. My skin was the worst it ever was. I just don't get why people get so turned off by my desire to eat real food!

    Tessemae's Ranch Out of Stock?

I ended up buying the Primal Kitchen ranch. It's more expensive but they had it. So far I'm not impressed. I don't like regular ranch in the first place but I wanted to have something other than the vinaigrette's we have been making at home and thought it would be good for a marinade. But every time I have used it I have gotten stomach pains after. I don't know if it is specifically the ranch because it happens with other meals too but every time with the ranch.

Good morning day 18! My husband is out of town this weekend on a hockey trip with the boys. He has been doing W30 with me the whole time but went into it knowing he wasn't going to try to do it this weekend. Which is fine that is his choice. I'm sure he will be having lots of beer and cheese curds. I'm excited to have the place to myself. Watch all the shows on Netflix that he doesn't like. Take an extra long bath. Do some shopping this weekend. And make this Hawaiian Chicken sheet pan meal that he didn't want to try because he doesn't think pineapple would be good cooked with chicken. (!?!) At the same time I'm kind of like well if he isn't sticking to it then whats one glass of wine in the bath going to hurt. But I am doing this for myself not him. I am already seeing my body change and my pants fit looser and I don't want to throw that all away.

I'm not talking about diet because lord knows mine was HORRENDOUS before this W30. We were driving back from NYE on the Sunday before we started and got McD's (with a sundae for dessert). Which is why my second week was just terrible with abdominal pain from what I assume was detox. I mean for me, I'm not particularly overweight (above normal unfortunately), my numbers are all good (cholesterol etc.) and no major health issues. IMO and what I have seen from other W30er's it takes a little longer to see "results." NSV's are there and I'm glad that you are seeing that your skin is looking healthier. But there are a lot of things that can be NSV's. Someone on this thread said the other day that it's difficult to see some NSV's because its from the inside-out. I think a lot of times we are dictated by other peoples opinions, did my husband complement me when I spent the extra time to get ready, did I get enough likes on the photo I posted, do I look as good as my friend/model/random person on the street? For me W30 isn't just about changing what I eat for 30 days but also a chance to reflect on how I feel and what makes my body feel good. As far as eating between meals, I would eat until you are full not uncomfortably full. Wait 15-20 mins to see if you are still hungry before eating more. And if you are hungry again before what we have specified as "lunch time" (noon) then eat your lunch. For me, I eat breakfast around 7:30 am and I can't make it to noon. So I will eat my lunch at 11:30 and that will keep me full until preWO or dinner at about 5:30. You just have to find the balance on what your body is telling you for when to eat. Additionally, sometimes our body's will mask thirst as hunger. Are you drinking enough water? I have a 32 oz bottle at my desk and my goal every day is to drink one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Then at home or during a WO I probably get another 32 oz.

@Julzology you've convinced me. I looked into Orange Theory (didn't realize we have like 6 locations around here!) and emailed to studio to see if it can be modified as I have been instructed by my doctor not to run and it can, so I am going to my first class on Sunday! Wish me luck!

This is my second W30 and from my experience with the first I didn't feel any different until about day 25. IMO if you were relatively healthy before your W30 the changes will be more subtle. Stick to it, if nothing else you will have had the self control and dedication to made it through a challenging 30 day lifestyle change and that will be a NSV!

I started my W30 and a yoga challenge at the same time...lets just say so far the W30 is winning but I'm ok with that. I still do hot power yoga 2-3 times a week. Maybe after the W30 I will start my yoga challenge over.

TMI alert... I am so frustrated the last couple of days. More often than not I have a stomach ache after a meal. I am eating all compliant and I know my body is adjusting to a very different diet than I had before W30 but last night I actually vomited after dinner (my husband and I ate the same meal so I don't think it was food poisoning). Then had the worst diarrhea. I was shaky with cold sweats. Went to bed at 9:30. This afternoon I don't feel great after lunch. Trying to have peppermint tea to make it go away. Already had a lose stool. I also went home from work because of stomach cramps and bloating on Monday, I was mostly constipated that day though. This is my second W30 and maybe I just blocked these symptoms out of my mind or they were out weighed by the good in the end but I am so over this. I just want to feel good. Sorry to be a whiner.

    Tessemae's Ranch Out of Stock?

I have been trying to get my hands on the tessemae's ranch dressing at my local whole foods and it has been out of stock the last couple weeks. I called and they said that they have been having issue from the Vendor getting shipments of the ranch when they order it. Has anyone else had this problem? They have Primal Kitchen ranch as well but they are out of stock of that as well. They did say that they should get that within a day or two as their shipments have been consistent. Does anyone have any other W30 approved ranch suggestions? I would make my own but every time I try to make homemade mayo it turns out horribly and for the amount of ranch/dressing in general we use it is just cheaper to buy it pre-made.

Day 11 here! In my mind I rationalize it as almost done with the second week which means we're almost halfway there. And I feel like we just started so making it through feels like its going to be a breeze. Right?...Right. We didn't plan or buy enough groceries for the whole week this week so we've kind of run out. My breakfast this morning was a fruit cup and hard boiled eggs from the cafeteria. Although I did scope out the grill where they make food and I think I could make a veggie omelet work. NSV's...having a lack of a plan or groceries but still making a meal at home last night out of what we had. Usually we would have just gone out especially to a bar to watch the basketball game. Also, I bought a pair of dress pants for work before the holidays online. They were too tight but I didn't want to have to ship them back so I kept them with the old adage "I will lose some weight and then these will fit." Most of the time I never lose weight and they never fit and they sit in the closet but I tried them on this morning and they fit! @Anissa I had that problem too and I have found that adding more protein and fat to each meal has helped. Yesterday for breakfast I had two fried eggs over a sausage, potato, pepper, carrot hash at 8:30 which kept me full until about 12:30. Lunch was leftover meatballs with tomato sauce over sweet potato noodles. Then dinner at about 6 of two Applegate hot dogs, broccoli and an apple with almond butter (we were desperate and lazy) and a cup of peppermint tea before bed.
