OHMaryF got a reaction from Ksprljan in Lenten Whole30 2/14-4/1
I have been feeling more calm and settled with my eating this Whole 30. I have my go to items and dishes and have tried some new ones. I am definitely feeling some good affects.
Our daughter's birthday was this past Monday. I took store bought cupcakes for her class and was not tempted at the bakery. We took her out to eat and the thoughts of the deserts did enter my mind, but none of them looked worth it to stop my Whole 30.
This weekend we are going out of town and I have almost all of my food packed. We will be going to my home town and there will be some challenges. We have a favorite donut and ice cream place so I will take our daughter, but get nothing for myself. We also have a birthday party and my brother makes his children's cake and he is a good baker/cook. I am going to stay focused on what I want to accomplish.

I was able to find compliant Chicken Sausage at our local grocery, “Aidell’s Chicken Apple Sausage.” I checked the ingredients, all real food and compliant. There was other flavors too but check the ingredients. They are fully cooked. So you could, in theory, cut those up and have those for the extra protein (or stick them on the grill for 8 minutes to put that wonderful grill flavor on them)... we had them as our protein with dinner last night. They were really good.
    Praying for a safe trip.

I had dreams last night about eating tortilla chips!  I don't remember having dreams about eating non-compliant food during my first W30, but I know this is a common experience.  LOL, I felt so guilty in my sleep that I even dreamt I spit out one of the chips after realizing I wasn't supposed to eat it.  I'm a little on the struggle bus.  I have been craving wine a lot and I noticed this morning (thankfully not last night!) that my husband opened a bottle.  It's just sitting on the counter, looking delicious.
Yesterday or Tuesday I was talking about my nervousness about maintenance after this Lenten W40 ends and it's so funny how the universe works!  I am the Director of Teachers and an Instructor at a yoga studio, and I learned that in April I'll be facilitating a 28 Day Program for which nutrition is a component.  It will give me the motivation to be really mindful about non-W30 eating and it creates accountability because I'll be sharing my experiences with the participants in the program.
Happy Friday-Eve for those of you in the US/Canada and Happy Friday to those of you on the other side of the world!

I found Wellshire no sugar turkey bacon at Whole Foods and a couple of weeks later, they got the no sugar pork bacon. If your local store does not carry it and you ask, they can probably order it.

I think your attitude is amazing! I would probably be castigating myself for weeks. You are right failure is always an opportunity! I also have the peeing issue. Not so much at night but during the day. I am a teacher and even though I normally drink a lot of water I am able to make it through my classes and go to the toilet during breaks. Since starting the Whole30, I have to go all the time. I have no idea what is going on.
Yesterday was a super hard day! My daughter b-day! I baked brownies and cookies and in the evening we had family and guests. I was a good hostess and serves some finger food (mostly non-compliant) and poured wine all evening! My husband and I sat there with our herbal tea being strong! It was tough, but we made it. When everyone left we had a big compliant dinner! Success! The good thing was that our friends and fam our totally supportive of our whole30 so there was no teasing, nudging or questions!

Day 10 for me and a major NSV... fasting blood sugar reading was 5.9 this morning ... that is an improvement of 2 (best in the past year was 7.9 and more often over 8.5).  To go along with that, my GERD seems to be gone.  While I’m still a wee bit low on energy, I’m pumped because it feels like I’m taking my health back!

I made chocolate chip cookies and brownies for my daughter today, almost licked my fingers a couple of times, but caught myself before it was too late.

Day 11 has dawned for me! Breakfast is leftover turkey/ veggie patties, avocado and banana with Turkish coffee - black! Lunch will be a whole30 compliant moussaka. Dinner not sure yet! Today is also shopping day for the week - I have to plan out my meals and prepare my shopping list.
Tomorrow is my daughter’s 12th birthday and she is having some friends over. This will require some cooking and baking for the munchkins. Not looking forward to those temptations, but I am confident I will make it.
NSVs - sleeping better, an overall lighter feeling, clothes fitting better, my aches have decreased, cleared head! Nothing huge and tremendous but a few small victories.

It's so good to hear of your victories, each completed day is such a good feeling.
Day 10 almost over here in Europe! It's going well, my body seems to get used to the food and I feel normal (physically) and proud (for making good food choices) most of the days. The challenge for next week will be fighting food boredom and also trying not to have (sweet) potatoes as a side too often (it happened to me that I had them twice a day last week, so I'll have to buy some other veggies in order to have more variety.
Today was a super tough day, though! I had a normal breakfast with eggs and packed my lunch. We had a seminar the whole day with two food options: going to a Mexican restaurant with my colleagues (where they had no compliant lunch) or going to the overpriced restaurant of the venue (with only one meal choice, of course not compliant). I had to ask the organizer if they happened to have a microwave somewhere where I could reheat the lunch I brought. He was really surprised, apparently none of the attendants had ever wanted to do that at one of their seminars. He showed me the way to the restaurant where, fortunately, they had a microwave. Again, suprised people there, watching me reheating my lunch. All the tables were beautifully dressed for people paying for their lunch there. They showed me to a small table in the corner where I could sit and eat my lunch. Phew!
Next challenge, the seminar was over, I headed to another event I had to attend in the evening. No time to eat another meal. At the event, they had a buffet with delicious looking sandwiches and sweets and we were told (repeatedly) to eat a lot as they ordered too much for the small number of attendants. A lot of "no, thank you"s were necessary. Looking forward to a week-end now where nobody will invite me to eat non-compliant food!!
Also, I had 3 Whole30-related dreams over the last days. Two times, I ate non-compliant food and realised it afterwards (still in the dream) - and felt bad, of course. The third dream was me walking along the aisles of the supermarket, desperately trying to find compliant bacon. Those dreams use to leave me with a small anxiety of eating non-compliant food without noticing in real life (an example would have been adding milk to my coffee at the seminar venue without thinking, as that's the way I usually drink my coffee). Fortunately, that hasn't happened so far, but I'm still a bit nervous!

NSV to report: I slept long & deeply for the last two nights. I am a chronic insomniac, so this is a big deal for me. I slept nine hours last night & didn't wake up until the alarm went off! It feels really, really good.
@Allis, you've helped me pick my pork chop recipe - I'm going to make Mel Joulwan's walnut-crusted pork chops with baked apples. I think a side salad sounds perfect with chops & apples.

    Hi Ingrid,
today is also my first day on Whole30! My friends don't want to hear about my food or diet choices, so I am doing Whole30 a bit closeted, and looking for online friends. We should touch base occasionally this month, since we are both on the same schedule! Good luck!

Hello everyone, I am giving Whole 30 a try. Read all the rules, and found out you can eat while doing W30.
It is going to be an interesting journey and I need encouragement along the way.
My husband will do it with me as much as possible.

Started Jan 24, day my doc said liver at 80% non functioning. She's also on it... Excited week 1, 2 sugar withdrawal days, but now at the end  bored so I read the what you do if your bored page. Asked 'what to do with leftover chicken'. Found a stir fry recipe, realized I was almost out of coconut aminos. Now I know what being in withdrawal could be! Immediately ordered more. It's my go to for any leftover protein in fowl or fish category. Easy program overall. So I'll just make it a whole 90. Liver doc is thrilled. Do I need to say more about how happy I am? Lost 10% of my weight per doc request... 20 lbs. As an apple, I've lost 8"off my waist. Shock!  I can touch my toes! Many times! In a row! Have always hated water, but now drink a sink full. Happily. My brother's birthday was yesterday. I used to bake for embassies, so I made 80 cupcakes and a regular cake. Not even a twinge of desire....  THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH FOR WRITING UP THIS PROGRAM!!

Good morning Day 6! First week almost done.
I am doing quite well. Except for all the food prep. Bodywise I am great! Starting to feel in my clothes that my body is going through some changes. I also seem to be going to the toilette to pee ver often. I usually drink a lot of water so I have not made changes in that respect but it seems to be making its way through my body much faster.
i had last week off from work and today is my first day back. Some things will be easier - too busy to snack, however I will have much less time for grocery shopping and food prep.
I need some breakfast ideas that do not include eggs. Please help.
    Have a great day all!

You can eat anything for breakfast. If you're looking for specific recipes, I posted a breakfast casserole recipe that has four eggs in a 9 x 13 baking dish but it doesn't taste eggy at all. Sometimes I like to eat soups for breakfast (warm, filling). One I really like is Mel Joulwan's gingered zucchini soup.

So today is Day5 for me, yesterday the only thing I wanted to kill was potentially myself. I’ve had a headache since Day2 and feel nauseous when I try to eat most eggs and sadly the egg roll in a bowl was for me a taste bud disaster.   I’ve had to deal with a water main break that left me and my neighbours without water from Wednesday afternoon until Friday evening. We are still on a boil water advisory so that kind of makes meal prep and clean up a bit more of a pain.  Because of this I’m sort of cranky and way more whiny than normal!  I did buy the Whole30 Day by Day and it has kept me sane and allowed me to continue.  I’ve stayed 100% compliant with the foods but not the meal composition and according to the tips and hacks in the book that is okay...especially in the first week as I adjust.  Today I inched closer to what breakfast should include...still not enough veggies but I’m trying.  Lunch will be a beef stew with olives as my plated fat.  Plated fats are a new concept for me.  So much to learn.

Ash Wednesday was a breeze because how easy is it to not eat bad when you know you have to fast?

Thursday morning - good breakfast. Thursday lunch- good. Thursday snack, HAD TO SNACK. Wanted to Eat All Things! Which led to me not eating dinner. Bad..

Today I had a good breakfast and am prepared for lunch. It's all veggies today. I am frustrated right now with my family. I am traveling home for the weekend and asked if they were going grocery shopping and what was for dinner. It was a big ordeal. Not supportive at first but tonight we'll have spaghetti squash. Hopefully this is the worst it gets from people outside the whole30 community!

    Happy Friday. Keep staying strong!
