  1. I've been trying to drink my coffee black or with cinnamon.... but it's just not good! Previously I would drink it with milk. How do you like your whole30 coffee?

Whole Brandy- a whole30 personal accountability log

7am Day 3: woke up and still had a headache..... tried to drink some coffee black. It was as bitter as I feel this morning (haha) but my headache is now gone. Caffeine withdrawal? As opposed to sugar withdrawal? I did not expect this. Also, wtf is up with the smell of this Ghee? Is this normal?
  3. I officially started my second whole30 on January 2nd (yesterday). So far, so good. Kind of. At 1.5 days in, I suspect I'm already having sugar withdrawal..... brutal headaches and I slept in for work for the first time ever today. Somebody save me now? Is it even possible to have sugar cravings after 1.5 days without sugar?!?!?! Jokes aside, over the last year I have really struggled. I hurt my back and slowly my workouts declined. As my workouts declined, my mental health declined. This combined with starting a new job that loves to feed us (wonderful, but perhaps overly appreciated by this food-dependant emotional eater), I quickly gained 50lbs. That's 50lbs in less than one year. From running distances, completing OCR's, training with Ashley Horner programs (she's a #badass!)...... to not moving at all, and struggling with my mental and physical health. What a drag. Anyhow, I've meal planned and prepped. Tomorrow is major grocery day (after having had to do a "mini" shop to start my whole30). I'm feeling ready and committed! "Fun" things about this journey thus far: my grocery list has never been this long in my life my office is full of sugar and wheat based delicious items like bread.... temptation is everywhere. This alone is probably why I've had a headache all day long. even if you've failed at making mayo a million times.... success is possible. Just buy a new immersion blender. As soon as you start a whole30, you will be invited to an abnormal amount of family dinners. It's like the universe is challenging you on purpose. I look forward to continuing this log as a part of my accountability.

    January start!

Officially prepped d ready to start tomorrow here! I even successfully made mayo.... something I have failed at a million times lol.
  5. Hello! I'm starting a whole30 in January and am looking for make ahead meal prep recipes. Ideally big batch recipes that can be cooked and frozen. I have the whole30 book but any additional recipes would be fantastic! Please share recipes and links here :)

    January start!

Hi, I'm a mom of 1 girl (6yrs) and am hoping to start in January as well. January 2nd start date. I've started picking out recipes to prep but that's as far as I've gotten in terms of planning. I did the whole30 once and had seriously fantastic results! But this past year has been rough but I'm looking forward to getting back on track.
  7. 8 years ago I was addicted to drugs and alcohol; I got sober, became active, and started a new life and routine successfully until about 6 months ago. In December, I developed a back injury and it limited my ability to be active.... then I started full time work in April (after 8 years of working pt, and being in school for 5 yrs) and have been struggling ever since. I've been eating so much that I've gained 20lbs, have started developing new physical symptoms, my routine is a mess, and I'm just really struggling with how much I rely on food as both a coping mechanism and as a social crutch (work and eating out it huge). I'm reaching out to other supports, but I'm wondering also if the whole30 (or 60) can help as well. I've been on the fence and having a hard time taking the leap. I did the whole 30 one year ago and saw so many great improvements in how I felt..... but went back to sugar shortly after. Yet this is the worst my relationship with food has ever been. I'm posting here for some accountability and maybe to get the push I need to start really planning this instead of just thinking about it. I have the original whole30 book; if you have additional recommendations for resources, please share!

I've completely fallen into old patterns again. I was halfway through my reintro... was surprised to find that it appears wheat and NOT dairy is causing my stomach issues. I didn't expect that. Anyhow. Halfway through my reintro I ate one damn chocolate egg and it's been all downhill from there. And when I don't have sugary foods, I turn to wheat or corn based foods to satisfy those cravings. It's awful and I feel like complete crap again. Back to being tired, bloated, constipated, and completely bombarded with sugar cravings. The shitty thing is I didn't feel confident or ready to finish my whole30 at 30 days. I think if I would have extended it I would have been better equipped to deal with this. I'm debating starting a whole60...

    I woke my Sugar Dragon

I'd like to follow this thread... I finished my whole30 awhile ago, did good for about a week and half... then it all started with one cadbury egg. I've been having a hellish time since then. Thinking of restarting a whole30 but extending it to a 45 or 60 since clearly 30 wasn't enough.

Day 30 update & NSVs: My energy levels are officially stable, which is AMAZING. I was previously crashing mid day every day and hungry at ridiculous times all day long. Not anymore! My gut loves me for perhaps the first time ever. No more bloating, pain, cramps, constipation, etc. I've learned so much about cooking, something I didn't know how to do before really. My grocery bill is up about $60/month but NONE of that food is going in the trash. It's worth every extra dollar. I'm eating and loving more vegetables then ever. This is the thing I am happiest about in regards to my whole30 experience... I feel like I understand food more and I am enjoying planning, prepping, and cooking. Not something I ever thought I would say! I miss regular butter like crazy and it's the first thing I'm adding back. I'm worried dairy might cause some problems though so I'll be taking it easy and doing it mindfully. I don't miss grains at all.... I'm debating if/when I want to reintroduce grains. I won't be adding back sugary treats or junk food until I have a super awesome great reason. That's all for now. I'll be taking measurements/after pics/weighing in soon. But I already have several pairs of pants that are fitting better, so I'm not too concerned about the actual numbers!

    Extreme muscle soreness

No advice, just popping in to say I'm feeling the same. I'm on day 20. The first bit my workouts just outright sucked. Then it got better. Then this week I attempted to push it as I was doing pre-whole30. I'm so fricking sore I haven't properly straightened my arms for 3 days haha. Granted, I should have stretched a bit more. But yea, I am really missing my protein supplements. I'm not big on eating before I go to the gym, it's too early for me to stomach much food, which may be part of the problem... But I eat a good meal when I get home and am still uber sore this week. Following posts like these are quite helpful.

@Jeanster47 - I've been so so so fricking sore from working out! Despite my post workout meal being sweet potatos and either turkey patties or eggs. @MargaretAM I've also noticed a decrease in the amount I'm lifting on my major lifts (squat, deadlift, bench primarily). NSV: I haven't had to toss any veggies in a few weeks and have actually under-shopped. I'm eating more veggies then ever! I'm really enjoying meal planning and trying new recipes. Struggle: cravings are still through the roof. There is no way I'll be past this come day 30 (10 days away for me!). My spouse is sitting beside me eating chips and salsa as we speak and it's quite devastating (lol). But I have cut back on using fruit to cope.

Hi everyone. Logging in today after not having logged in for several days, there seems to be a more upbeat vibe (despite several ongoing challenges... when comparing to the previous week these seem to have gone down). Congrats everyone on making it half way. I'm on day 17 and my cravings are THROUGH THE ROOF. I feel like every 5 minutes I'm craving something else or fantasising about eating some other junky food. It is unlike any bout of cravings I've experienced before and I think I've been using fruit to cope. I'm eating 3-4 servings of fruit a day!!! aah!! Recognising this now, it's something I'll work on over the next few days. Also, I got a random rash on my face the other day. The only new thing I tried was an apple lara bar. Having only eaten dates once or twice in my life before, I thought it might be from that. The rash is mostly gone and I ate half a cashew lara bar today pre-workout and will see if anything comes up again. Weird. My energy levels are stable until I get stressed, then they plummet (as would be normal I imagine). Food is good although I'm pretty sick of eggs. My stomach is feeling better then ever (no bloating or cramping or constipation). And my workouts are going great again.

So many great lunch ideas, thanks everyone. Maybe I need to start making bigger dinners- leftovers for lunch would be awesome. I'm on day 14 today. Prior to starting this, I was having major energy crashes by 2pm everyday... it was one of the key reasons I started whole30, I'm sick of being tired. Two weeks in and I'm noticing this afternoon energy slump is declining!! Woohoo! I remember going to the doc about this and being so frustrated when all my bloodwork came back normal and he told me "it's probably just life." I'm still feeling pretty tired, but I'm hoping to see more NSV in this area, with the ultimate goal being stable, sustained energy throughout the day. Last couple days my sugar cravings have been through the roof. It came on suddenly and seems to get stronger daily. Anyone else having sugar cravings at this point? Also, is anyone thinking about extending their whole 30? If so, how long? I'm enjoying this process and feel like 30 days isn't enough to learn all there potentially is to learn.
