Wow Day 30. We made it! No matter what your reintroduction plan, no matter what your results, our commitment to doing this together makes me feel such joy, pride and camaraderie with each of you, especially as I read the most recent posts. @Lilkathy thank you so much for those links. Part of what "sold" me on the Whole30 is their realistic and balanced approach outside of the 30 days. I am a therapist and I have worked with eating disorders and (obviously!) have my own struggles with food and my body. In the ED world, there is a term "orthorexia" which refers to compulsivity about and preoccupation with healthy eating rules. W30 specifically discourages this kind of relationship with their rules/guidelines but instead lays out a path to finding ***freedom***. Much harder in the short run but much healthier in the long run. Having said that, I am in no hurry to reintroduce and definitely am going to wait with any dessert-y thing or breads until, as @brandyontherun said, I have a "super awesome great reason." That is a great bar! @xfrapgirl how are you feeling? @brandyontherun I also love reading your NSVs. I am going to go through the W30 NSV list later today and will post. Here is a link if you haven't seen it http://whole30.com/downloads/whole30-nsv.pdf Have a great day.

@xfrapgirl I'm so sorry you are sick again. It's funny but with my cold I have been getting comments from others, similar to what you are saying: "maybe all this healthy eating is making you sick", "maybe junk food was defending against germs".... Personally, I need to keep my eye on the long-term, way beyond this 30 days. I KNOW in my heart that this eating is good for me and that what I was doing wasn't working. I have made a commitment to myself to integrate these changes over the long haul. But it has been hard to be so sick this past week. I have been bummed that I am not able to see what benefits I may be having this last week on W30 because of being sick. It was also hard to stay compliant - I didn't go off plan and I had to force down meals sometimes but I did it. @ShellyM I feel similarly to you re: re-introduction. I am in no hurry to re-introduce grains or dessert-y things. And @xfrapgirl I also really love focusing on three solid meals a day. I think my re-introduction will include dairy and alcohol over the next two weeks. Dairy because I am missing yogurt and the ability to supplement my daily protein intake with yogurt and whey. Alcohol because as I said earlier my husband and I are going away next weekend for his 60th birthday and I would like to enjoy some wine with him. I go away again the following weekend for a work trip. It will also be nice during these trips to not have to be so diligent when eating out about the types of oil my food is cooked in or that the turkey on the salad may have carrageenan in it. During the two weeks I will continue to focus on the meal template and mostly compliant eating with the exceptions noted above. When I get back from the second trip, I am going to evaluate where I am at and how I am feeling and decide how to proceed from there. Re-introduce more? Feel like I can benefit from another W30? I am open. I would love to hear what others are doing for reintroduction. I'm going to miss this group when we finish.

Morning All. Happy Day 23! Wow - one week to go. That is crazy! I'm so proud of me and all of us for getting through the many ups and downs thus far! I finally succumbed to the cold going around and around and am sick. Boo. Re: the topic about mouthwash/gum/mints. I do something a little out of the ordinary and definitely not for everyone. I chew on a piece of cinnamon stick. I got in the habit of doing this in India and I love it. A 1/2 stick takes bad flavors out of my mouth and is pretty satisfying. But you have to really like cinnamon. Re: grab and go. I do hard boiled eggs, cut veggies, packets of olives or, in a pinch, an Epic bar. For me Rx bars and the like are too reminiscent of treats. I also like making the salmon cakes in the W30 book and they are easy to grab and go. They are especially yummy with homemade mayo - though admittedly a little messier. NSV's: husband's birthday celebration. Food and drinks everywhere. I sipped on seltzer water with lime and went home and had a big ol' protein salad and felt proud of me. Random thoughts for today. Have a good day everyone!

@jmcbn and others: I started adding more fat yesterday and already my energy is up. Next I will be adding more protein and protein will let you know how I fare.

Thank you both. I think I need to add more protein too. Will work on eating more protein over the next week and see how it goes.

Hello All It is helpful to be reading the specifics about what people are eating. My workouts are still really lacking - in particular my weights have decreased in a way that has never happened before. I posted about this on the thread for atheletes and hopefully will get some ideas there. I have also been more tired this week. Geez. I have no doubt that this eating is ultimately much better for me and my body but I hope to level out soon. Like others, a huge NSV is how good I feel about the choices I am making. There has been a pie in our fridge all week from my husband's birthday and it barely even whispers my name (vs. the megaphone in the past). Prior to this I would have been in a constant push pull of should I eat it? No I can't eat it. Ok I will eat just a little of it. Ok, maybe a little bit more. I suck; why can't I control myself? And on and on and on. This is the main reason I am doing this program. So Yea! I tried the butter chicken recipe that was posted earlier. I doubled the chicken breast in it and it turned out perfect. Family loved it. I also made this recipe without the tortillas in it. Family really loved this one. http://abc.go.com/shows/the-chew/recipes/tortilla-soup-braised-chicken-michael-symon Happy Day 19 my friends. Margaret

Oh and sleep is variable. I have always had sleep problems. It is definitely better since starting the program. I can have nights of 8 hours straight. However, I continue to wake up tired.

Hello: Thank you for your reply. Here are some answers to your questions: I work some shift work which means sometimes I am at work until anytime from 10 pm to midnight. That is why you will see a range in my meal times. MEAL 1: between 730-900 am I generally eat a casserole which will contain eggs and another protein and veggies. I always have a small salad with it with various veggies, a sprinkling of raw almonds and Tessemaes's balsamic. I drink 2 cups of coffee with either coconut creamer (compliant) or coconut oil blended in. MEAL 2: between 12-2 pm I generally have some meat entree or a casserole I prepared on Sunday. For example, yesterday I had two leftover chicken thighs in a tomato sauce. I added about a 1/2 cup of riced broccoli with ghee and another salad with veggies and Tessemae's. MEAL 3: between 5-7 Same as meal 2 STARCHES I will always have at least one starch a day but sometimes I will have starches in all three meals depending on my hunger. Serving is about the equivalent of a 1/2 small/mid size sweet potato. I am rarely having any fruit. FATS I always add fats in the form of clarified butter, coconut oil, avocado. SNACKS On days I work late I tend to need a snack when I get home. That is usually a small bit of starch and fat. WATER I have struggled to get in enough water (about 1 gallon for my weight) but have been better with that recently PROTEIN I have a bit of a hard time knowing how much protein I am getting because I often make casseroles that contain protein with veggies. My goal with my weightlifting is to eat a gram of protein per pound of weight (between 125-130 lbs). This has always been tough but harder now that I am not supplementing with whey or Greek yogurt. PRE/POST WORKOUT SNACK Pre-workout: a piece or two of turkey deli meat and some avocado Post-workout: a couple more pieces of turkey deli meat and 1/2 a sweet potato. Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated. Margaret
  10. Hello Everyone: I am on day 17 and I am still struggling with my heavy lifts and am actually losing strength, which is upsetting (my endurance seems to be fine at this point). I definitely don't feel tiger blood yet but I am also not as drained as I was on and off the first 2 weeks. I am eating big meals with a good amount of protein and fats - enough that I get full and stay full. Do I just need to hang in longer? Or is there something I can try tweaking? Thanks for any thoughts, Margaret

I have been a bit silent the last couple of days but have been reading. I very much appreciate the conversation happening and @Allison1022 your willingness to ask questions. I do think the rules or guidelines about what to post are not very clear and it helps all of us to have more clarity. I love your posts and hope you don't stop! I have been in a slump that past couple of days...no "Tiger Blood" here right now. Some of that is other stuff going on in my life. I'm ok with it and can ride this wave, but it means I just haven't had a lot to say. But I am still here reading and cheering you all on!

DAY 15 Whoa, we made it to Day 15! I, for one, feel that a huge NSV is the commitment and follow-through this has taken. Yea us! @Allison1022: you SO have this without your hubby doing it. You are not alone - we are all here with you! @KatKat and others: I am also thinking about life past this 30 days. I have a weekend away with my husband the weekend after we end. We will be celebrating his birthday. I am likely to have a glass of wine or two but otherwise keep myself in compliance. Same thing with a business trip I take the following weekend. Post that, I may return for another W30 or may look at reintroduction and decide from there. I'm trying not to make too many decisions right now. A lot can change in 15 days! Speaking of which, a NSV is how well I am sleeping. 8-10 hours straight through a night. I haven't slept like that since childhood. On the other hand, I am definitely not bounding out of bed in the morning and I am hitting a slump in the afternoon still. Really focusing on eating enough including fats, protein and some starchy veg's and hoping it will just take some more time. I am also wanting to step on the scale. Truth be told, I am not overweight right now and the the scale probably wouldn't move much. But it would still be demotivating for me if it didn't move, or if it went up. So it is not worth it to me to break this rule. Random thoughts this morning. Wishing you all a great Monday and Day 15. Let's rock this together for the next 15 days!!!

DAY 12 and DAY 13 Catching up from yesterday. Felt like I had "turned a corner" in the morning. Felt good energy and a contented, hopeful mood. I sort of lost it again in the afternoon - getting fatigued and feeling the "blah" that so many others are talking about. Went to the grocery store and felt like all I saw were all the desserts (my personal trigger) everyone was buying. It actually got kind of humorous after a while. I am noticing that I am sleeping much more soundly. This is an incredible NSV for me as I have been a horrible lifelong insomniac. I have yet to bounce out of bed in the morning but good sleep counts for so much!

@JenniferPasoFino Thank you for sharing your story. Your medical crisis sounds terrifying and I understand about PTSD and how it can wreak havoc in a life. I'm also appreciating and relating to all of the other stories here. Thankfully, I am fairly medically sound at this point in my life. But it wasn't always that way. I had chronic fatigue about 15 years ago and it was the most difficult thing I have gone through. I have a lot of admiration for those of you who are here for medical/health reasons.

@Allison1022 Those are some MAJOR NSVs! Wow, thanks for sharing. @MButcher I agree about the synergy between attitude and physical change. What kind of dance do you do? Congrats on your performance!
