Eat more. To get enough food in with a salad, you need like a wheelbarrow full (that's a slight exaggeration, but you need a lot). Also, you only had the fat in your eggs. You just need to eat more. Like, not waiting until next meal - make yourself a mini-meal featuring two of the three Whole30 meal components, and if you're still hungry after that, make it a full meal. There's a difference between craving and hungry, and this is it.
    Eat up!

I'm with you on the sugar - it's been hard to imagine how I will handle it after.  I'm thinking of doing another round to give me more time to get ready
Thank you for your service as well!  I've always wondered about the food thing with soldiers (or those who travel and have no control).  Though my gut has been a million times better since I started Whole30 I've avoided going to different situation that I had no control over the foods b/c the impact is so unpleasant sometimes.  Even on vacation, when most people gain their weight, I never do b/c I stick to very basic foods.  I can't (couldn't) eat anything dairy related, greasy, cream based, or anything labeled "rich" when away from home and my bathroom   I hope you make the weight you want, and good luck when you go back!

I'm really sorry your first half marathon didn't go as planned.  Right now I have gotten horrifically out of shape and can't do what I did before, but when I was racing pretty often I learned - don't change anything right before a race.  The training is by far the most important part of a distance race - it is what gets you through.  So if you were training with a certain fuel and then changed it up before the race - that could be part of it.
There are definitely a lot of paleo distance runners though so I think it can be done - it just needs to be practiced that way.   The other questions you asked I'm struggling with myself, so I'm not much help (the 30 vs 365).
Also - I'm sorry that the race wasn't what you hoped, but I've learned something in my racing.  I've done 22 half marathons and sometimes you just have a crappy one.  Same with any run.  Sometimes they go awesome - sometimes not.  I'm not sure what training plan you did, but for me - I HAD to have one run over 13 miles (I did 14) in the beginning.  Mentally I just had to.  Do you know when you started feeling badly during the race?

Happy St. Patty's Day (and Friday)! Although I love corned beef and cabbage, I'm not indulging this year until I can cook up one that's compliant on my own! So, as it's also Friday and I grew up with fish fries, I'm going back to Melissa Joulwan's Well Fed 2 and trying her "West African Chicken Stew" but subbing in white fish (for me, cod), as she suggests at the end. I can't wait, as my husband, mother and I gobbled up the original recipe, and I'm sure this will be a mighty tasty (and comforting) way to end a busy week!
How are you celebrating St. Patty's Day?

Thank you for everyone who is posting.  I was having a hard day and numerous weak moments a few days back.  I tried to reach out to my husband and friend by phone and no one was available.  I turned to this forum and after reading a few posts I was able to gather the strength I needed to stay strong.  We will be finishing week two tomorrow.  YAY, halfway.  I have a couple of social functions under my belt with one more big one coming before the end of the month but I am no longer concerned.  Some of our dinner conversations are focusing on what changes we can see ourselves making to our diet when the Month is over.  On another note, I put my toaster away.  It normally sits on the cupboard but I realized I have no need for it so out of the way it went.  This made more room for my InstantPot, which has not been in the cupboard since I started this.  Happy Pi Day!

Happy Day 13!  I was able to prepare for work lunches this week by making a pot of Whole30 compliant chili yesterday.  I have found that even though the rest of my family isn't doing Whole30, they are all eating much better than they used to.  Part of this is that I am just not buying the foods that I used to.  My 16yo son mentioned, while he and I were at the grocery yesterday, that "it's not bad" eating the new foods and that he is proud of his mama for holding strong and doing so well.  After a crazy Friday where I felt like I was tempted by everything (Fish Fry day), it was good to hear!

I have avoided going out to eat.  I'm just afraid I will somehow mess up and not have control over it.  I need to just move on.  I think after the official whole 30, even if I stick with eating paleo type foods - I will feel better going out.  Then I won't mind as much if the eggs are made in butter rather than oil, etc.
I am also a WW (was?) - lifetime not at goal, and I agree about the fruit.  I never really completely overate fruit, but definitely more than I've eaten on this plan.  I am trying to limit it (still eat it) and see if it helps me get rid of some of the sugar cravings I struggle so much with.
I agree about the hunger in the morning.  Even when I was eating healthy I didn't always get hungry in the morning.  And particularly not in the past year with my awful food choices!
You may be my hero for the day.  Pizza is the one thing (well good pizza - not the Little Ceasars my husband brings home) that I really do miss a bit.  And I didn't eat it often before!  I just really like it.

I haven't been on the boards much lately - probably because it's a pain from my home and I never turn on my computer at home.  So when I'm at work and have a free moment - that's my time to get on here.  I do like the support of this board and the fb groups.  I'm not sure I'd still be successful without the support as nobody at home is eating this way.  Overall I'm still in that phase where I absolutely know this is a healthier way of eating and have seen some benefits, but still wonder about the "after".  I know I should not want the junk that led me here, but a small part of me still does.  And for some things it's a larger part.  The good (?) news is I'm only on day 13, so I do still have time to prepare.  I just don't know where that line will be.

Oh that is great work!  I would have let that stress me out I think.  And I would have lived on larabars
What marathon are you doing?  I was supposed to run MCM last year and then just was so out of shape it wasn't going to happen.  I'm hoping to get back to my 1/2 marathons this year.

I have to say I'm starting to notice some positive changes! I didn't the first few days like some of you, and I still have a headache and some brain fog, but I noticed that I can turn my neck further than before! I had neck surgery three years ago and have a lot of scar tissue that interferes with it, which of course leads to a very stiff neck and bad headaches/numbing in my fingers and toes/etc.  So that what a big change that I was happy to see.  Granted I have a long way to go, but without question I can turn it further.  I also noticed I can now put my socks on standing up again!  I was at a point where I hurt so horribly that I couldn't do it.  It wasn't anything "getting in the way" - it was my back and neck hurt so bad I couldn't bend over.  I still felt "creaky", but I did it this morning - huge win.  It makes me miss Thai and Chinese a little less (marginally).

I hope everyone had a good weekend!

Today is day 26 for me and the challenges are constantly changing with W30, but I think, most importantly, it's less challenging overall now.
The first week was such a mixed bag, but my eagerness helped temper the hard parts. By week two, I was dealing with mood swings, low energy and just trying to figure out how to tailor my meals to fit my needs.
Getting creative with my food was/is a big help— and yeah, as much as I love eggs, even I get a bit egged out from time to time. My proteins are mostly eggs, tuna, salmon and turkey, but I try to transform them into fun stuff: Thai tuna patties, salmon frittata, curry burgers, fried (cauliflower) rice with eggs and turkey bacon, etc.
It gets easier as you go along — the cravings wane, you get used to the kitchen hustle, and it all becomes your new normal.
As for wins, I have no idea how I'm doing weight wise. I look leaner in the face, but my clothes aren't really loose. But my breathing is better, my last Lupus flare was shorter than I would have expected, I like my food, and I'm feeling proud of sticking through this reboot.
There are no real downsides that I can see from here, so that's something to keep in mind if you have any tough days ahead!

Hi, I officially started on March 1; this is my first time doing Whole30.  Even though I already eat pretty clean and work out, thyroid and other (hormonal?) issues recently caused me to gain 10-15 lbs in a very short period of time.  I started seeing a holistic doctor and this program was one of her recommendations.  I was concerned about eliminating grains, especially in the morning, because I've always gotten migraines from low carb diets.  So far, I'm focusing on getting enough carbs from potatoes, bananas, etc. and I haven't had one yet.

Good morning/afternoon!  So far so good. I don't feel well at all but I'm going to blame it on a cold for now  I'm a bit dizzy and a tiny bit nauseous.  I ate breakfast and went to two meetings so far though so obviously functioning
I've noticed not so much physical changes that others have but definitely mental. I feel better about myself eating this way rather than having a gigantic piece of carrot cake for dinner.
I was happy last night that it went well because typically Fridays are the day I eat the worst. I almost always ate out before and never ever made healthy choices. Typically Chinese or Thai and usually noodle based.  I always typically eat out of boredom and worried about that for the weekend but I feel ok about it so far.
Hello to those who recently joined. I am so happy to have the help and support of this board and FB because this would be much harder on my own.

Hello. I would like to join you. I finished my first Whole30 a few weeks ago and now I'm trying to get back on track to do another one. So today will be my official day 1 - march 3. I have an auto immune disease and 60 pounds to lose. I lost 8 lbs on my first whole30. I've been trying to figure out why it's been hard to get back on track. I know checking in here will help keep me honest. Also sadly I think it's better for me not to try to do too much else. As in if I start taking on lots of projects I lose focus on Whole30 and it seems to require a lot of focus from me. It's really important to take time for a good W30 breakfast every day or else I'll be in danger of blowing up the whole day.

    Hi All,
Last year on April 4 I started whole30. It was a great success, but certainly not easy at first. I must say since that time I have cooked more this past year than I have the last 20 years!  I stayed on and basically did a whole120. I never got the huge burst of energy that everyone talked about during the first 30 days, but my family mentioned that I seemed to have extra spunk in my step, in addition, I would always be moving rather than sitting down at night after work. I guess it did work, but I did not realize it right away as it was a slow change for me.  So to all of you newbies, pay close attention, as there are good things happening as you struggle through the cravings, the tiredness of thinking and planning food all the time, just understand that sometimes you don't notice it right away, but it is helping you and you will feel better.    In addition to feeling better, and increasing my energy, over the course of 6 months I lost 40 lbs.  I know this program is not meant for weight loss, but I did help me tremendously.  I still have much to loose and frankly I have hit a plateau (for quite awhile) and I started to take things for granted ... this is when I started to let myself cheat. I had moved to paleo and still felt great, but there were times when I would be like,,, it is no big deal.  Clearly my hitting the plateau and feeling stuck for so long impacted how I have been eating lately. I would say I have been whole30 95% of the time. But let me tell you, that 5% of not doing it really messed with my mind.  I don't want to fall back into my old habits!   I liked myself much more (I know that sounds crazy), while doing whole30. So, I made the commitment to myself to start over again with this group on March 1 to reset my body, as well as my mind.  Also, having a group going through the same struggles really is helpful, at least it was for me! So, looking forward to reading your posts, hearing about your struggles as well as your triumphs!

I'll admit, I like my chilli a lot spicier so I kind of mixed my own chilli recipe with >this one< (and I often add chopped veg too) from Mel Joulwan to create my own version, but it's a regular in my food rotation. She has a lot of other Whole30 compliant recipes on her website too, and a couple of fantastic recipe books...
    Enjoy!

    Hey there -
Couple things... if you need a snack between meals, eat protein and fat and ideally veggies...we call it a mini meal... an RX bar is for emergencies and a planned possible snack is not an emergency.
Second, your dinner is pretty small if you're only eating one hard boiled egg.  Eggs when they are your sole source of protein are as many as you can hold in one hand without dropping. For most women that starts at 3-4.
Also, your lunch has no veggies?  Fruit is fine but don't let it replace veggies on your plate

The thing is, this is not a 'diet'.  It's not even close to being a calorie restriction or counting/measuring plan.  It's an elimination plan designed to help you figure out at the end of 30 days, how foods affect you.  If you eat fruit and nuts and lara bars three or four times a day and limit the amount of protein, veggies and fat, it will not be sustainable and your gut could really rebel, as @jmcbn has said.
There are lots of options for 'travel food' that are a better choice than a larabar.  The meal template is the absolute minimum amount that a human adult needs daily to survive. It's okay if you're not a huge veggie fan now, but part of the Whole30 is trying to reframe things about food... so maybe instead of referring to yourself as a 'hardcore veggie hater' you can consider yourself an 'experimental veggie trier'.
what things do you like to eat? You don't have to have squash and eggs for breakfast... meatballs, chicken salad (or any other protein salad)... we can definitely help you with ideas if you want to expand your horizons.
that said, you can keep eating exactly the way you are.... technically it's a whole30... but if you're having hunger/hanger/tired/dizzy issues, bathrooming issues, sleep issues etc...the mods will ask to see your meal plan and the first piece of advice will be what we're talking about now...
We want you to be successful and we can help with that

Welcome to those who just posted! I'm on my phone and can't reply as well.
Im starting to get more excited. I've got my shopping done and tomorrow totally ready/planned.
Id love it if everyone shared food plans if that is allowed. It will help newbies like me get some ideas.
This is my plan for tomorrow.
Sweet potato bowl with fruit and almonds.
Salad with salmon and olives. Fruit.
Pork with the other half of the sweet potato and roasted veggies.
I used one of my new sauces on the salmon so we will see how it goes  I might try one of the dressings
So for those who this impacts, how are you planning to deal with communion?  For what it's worth, for me this program is important but not more than communion so I'm taking it.  i don't know the official opinion though .

That's me too.  My husband will never attempt this plan.  My son would complain but I could drag him along.  My one year old will eat anything except green beans.  So I'm going to be doing this with Doritos, chips, ice cream, etc in the house.
