ZoodleOutlaw got a reaction from BonnieStP in For those of you considering the Whole30....
Thank you for posting this! I haven't started yet, my start date is May 20th. I am so happy you said that you finally found a way to eat for the rest of your life because that's what I've been wanting for so long. I can't wait to get started and I can't wait until I can just let go of all of the "diet" mindsets I've built up over the years! Congratulations on finishing, that is so awesome and you should be very proud.

... they go out for "Sushi" with their friends and special order rolls made without rice to go with their sashimi. And they bring their own coconut aminos.

We don't actually want you eating Epic bars or Lara bars during a Whole30. We want you eating real meat, veggies, and fats, not packaged foods.

Personally, there are too many to list for some foods, and too few for others. (E.g. A million vinegars, not much bacon, which I don't bother with on Whole30.)
And, you really need to check the ingredients every time you purchase something as ingredients can change.
I shop frequently at Trader Joe's, often at a little corner market, and also shop at Whole Foods and Amazon. I spent a lot of time when I first started my Whole30 reading labels. I still do.

You can still reward yourself!  Lots and LOTS of us do. Take a bubble bath, go buy the new David's Tea, a trashy magazine (if that's your thing), listen to music SUPER loud... There are things in your life that you dont get to do often that bring you joy (I know there are... we all have them), so try using them to reward yourself... you totally deserve it!

It's day 14 and I have no cravings but if I'm honest with myself, I miss rewarding myself for getting through the day with non-compliant food.  Feelings suck.

Ya, unfortunately that's just one that has to be worked through.  It can be a bit startling to really feel the full draw of emotions but you get used to it.  Plus you won't always be going through the "withdrawal" stage of being used to eating sugars etc.  That part just makes it all worse.

Is it possible that you are used to comforting yourself with food when you feel anxious or upset? It's possible that by teaching your body to accept food just as fuel that you are having to experience these emotions far more strongly than you were pre-Whole30?

Watching your friends merrily eat and drink sounds like a setup that would make anyone miserable. Is there any way that next time, you could suggest a non-food activity instead -- a bike ride or board games or whatever thing you enjoy? Also -- I'm no stranger to depression myself and just wonder if this is a chicken-and-egg problem -- is it possible that your depression is flaring up and making you hate the Whole 30? When I am depressed I tend to zero in on an area of my life and decide that it is absolutely intolerable and the source of my misery -- but the real truth is the depression came first, and when the depression has been addressed, the problem isn't so intolerable after all. If you have a doctor or therapist, maybe make a call and let them know what's going on? In any case, I'm sorry you are feeling so bad and hope that the darkness lifts soon.

Use vanilla beans. You can even get them (or vanilla bean powder) at Amazon.

Be prepared.  The worst days were when I didn't have the right foods with me.   Look up whole30 stuff ahead of time.  There are compliant sausage, bacon, salad dressings, salsa, etc out there that you can use to cook with.  Coco aminos taste like soy sauce.  Olive oil and Ghee are the amazing.  Spices and seasonings flavor food just as well as sugar.   Look at the menu before you go out to eat and consider how you will ask them to modify it for you.  Take your salad dressing with you.  Keep healthy choices in the fridge at work.

    You can do it

Hi everyone! I am starting the Whole30 journey on the 20th of this month, and I am super excited.
I have been really terrible to my body for the last decade or so, and I can't wait to fix all of the damage I've done. I am not currently working out and am pretty sedentary, so this will be a good start. I am planning on starting weight exercises with a bit of cardio when I start my Whole30, so if anyone has any tips or ideas for me that would be greatly appreciated!

    Well done
I loved reading your NSV's and i'm sure other newbies will find them inspirational and to 'hang in there!'
I am really hoping to have a separation from the scale... what does that number mean anyway?!
    Congratulations!
