With pretty much everyone wrapping up reintroduction, it seems like this thread is coming to an end. I'd like to thank all of you for sharing stories and support, which helped us get through the hardest parts of this adventure.
Special shout out to @Margot for getting this party started. I hope your little birds who have left the nest will be able to join you for Thanksgiving, and may you stay safe from the hurricanes. I don't know how you folks in hurricane prone areas do it. I'll stick to my California wildfires and earthquakes, thank you very much!
Best of luck to the rest of you in continuing to build on the groundwork you've laid down for healthy eating. Perhaps we'll cross paths again on future threads as we work to get back on the track we'll inevitability stray from during the holidays. I promise not to drink too much eggnog though! Stay well, dear people!

I just had my new favorite lunch: mixed greens, diced cherry tomatoes, homemade vinaigrette, grilled burger patty, fried butternut squash, all topped with a fried fresh egg. I will be eating it regularly after this is over. One meal left! I am making it a good one and grilling ribs from our homegrown pigs.

I really like this article on RobbWolf.com and it got me doing lots of thinking: https://robbwolf.com/2013/07/11/9010-8020-4060-whats-paleo-percentage/. I thought it was worth sharing since we are all headed towards reintroduction soon and some are considering Paleo and percentages.
i spent the evening making dozens of chocolates and muffins for our sons. Even with good-sized Whole30 meals, three growing boys go through a lot of snacks. The muffins are toasted coconut banana bread paleo muffins and the chocolate is three ingredients (coconut oil, maple syrup, and pure dark cocoa powder). I got both all over my hands, especially when putting the chocolate into Star Wars ice cube molds. Luckily I was wearing a stained chore shirt and just wiped my fingers off immediately every time. A dirty shirt is well worth staying on track for the last four days!
My husband bought a glucose meter- simply out of curiosity- back in April. Back then I was eating my old normal way and weighed at least ten pounds more than now (I lost ten in August). I tested my fasting glucose a handful of times. It was, on average, 93. We ran out of strips and I didn't test again until yesterday morning: 73!!! This morning was 74! I don't know what the scale will say Wednesday or what foods I will and won't be able to eat again, but I do know my body is healing and getting healthier!

Oh, @HopingtoHeal, what a tough time for you! It truly is heartbreaking when you want a child so badly and everyone else around you is having them and all you read about in the news is people who have abandoned or abused their sweet babies. I hope you and your husband will soon be able to come to peace with a decision and have success with it.  My husband and I decided to foster and adopt our two (I do have a biological child from my first marriage, who is now an amazing adult contributor to society), and while it admittedly isn't the same as experiencing giving birth, it is still an awesome honor to be called their mother.

It's great to read how everyone is doing! @Lady49er great to hear that you guys are noticing tangible change from week one! It's so motivating when you start to see those changes happening!
I don't know that I am seeing much change at the moment. My energy and sleep pattern are not great and I'm hoping as we get to the end of this week I will see breakthrough with that!
It's interesting the impact of the changing seasons is having for me, I think in some ways it seemed easier in June as summer rolled around than this time as we move into autumn - I clearly have some autumn traditions like making apple and blackberry crumble that I feel a bit sad about missing for now, and I realise just how much of a habit takeaway on a Saturday night used to be - a total comfort thing that used to get me through a long day of teaching on a Saturday. I'm trying to focus on the cosy Saturday night feeling without associating it with takeaway and snacks... candles, blankets, maybe a bubble bath?
Yesterday at work was another challenge as I had a session with our young volunteers which involves ordered in pizza, it was actually easier than I imagined to avoid it - this time last year I would have found it impossible not to eat some! Small victories!
I have a few hours between jobs today so planning to get out on my bike but not as far a ride as last week, just to get my body moving!!
How is everyone else's day 9 going?

Today was my first struggle getting a filling lunch. I baked salmon fillets and had a small side salad. It was obviously not enough because I still felt very hungry afterwards. I put my plate in the sink and made some celery with homemade 4-nut butter (macadamia, pecan, cashew, almond) and had two small stalks. I finished off my lunch with an almond macadamia coconut ball I made over the weekend. I am not sure I can make it six hours until normal dinner time so it may be an early meal.
I have made it to day nine without snacking between meals (huge thing for me) and have only had fruit twice (1/4 apple in a salad and handful of blueberries on a salad). I am really trying to tame the Sugar Dragon and those fruits were so sweet it made me want more. I am trying to go ten days before eating fruit again. The blueberries were Saturday so seven days left
My three sons are doing great eating paleo. There are a few Clif bars left in the house but I am saving them for soccer or baseball games. They are better than the Skittles and cosmic brownies handed out recently, which were either refused or thrown away by my boys. They ask me lots of questions about why I can and cannot eat certain things. It is starting a good dialogue with them about nutrition.
One confession: I had a really hard time last night making my sons a snack after soccer because I so badly wanted to eat it. My favorite snack is almond butter banana "ice cream" with homemade chocolate (almond butter, bit of maple syrup, coconut oil, and cocoa powder) melted on top. I simply smelled their bowls (they didn't even have chocolate) and went to my room to read. I may have it for breakfast on Day 31.

    Day 9 is going fine!
I was able to sleep in this morning before my pup's vet appt.  I could definitely use that extra sleep. And then I just cuddled her on the couch until it was time to go. We start her on the prednisone today (we can't afford chemotherapy). But the doc said that because she isn't showing any symptoms, in rare occasions, the steroids have put dogs into remission. I am not getting my hopes up, but it's definitely something to be praying for.
Whole30- It's been going really well. It really wasn't a huge adjustment from how I had been eating right before. And I haven't had to change any of my cooking habits, so that helps. I just don't use not compliant ingredients in my food. The only hard part has been planning dinners for school nights. Tuna has been my godsend there.
I'm feeling good though. And hope everyone else is too!

Oh my gosh, that sounds heavenly, @Sytera! Can you pack my next game picnic for me??? I'm team Mom for cheer, which means I take care of all the snacks. I keep things relatively healthy anyway, usually a fruit (unsweetened applesauce or a banana), a juice box, and a crunchy "goodie" like a small bag of vanilla wafers, flavored rice cakes, or something similar. Of course there's always water. Anything that doesn't stain the uniforms! MIniMe barely noticed the difference because she had her iced green tea with mint and got a snack bag of freeze dried strawberries and bananas. Nobody else noticed she was eating differently either, which was nice. Then some mom came over with a ginormous bag of candy, and the cheer coach tackled her in a way that rivaled what was going on at the field. LOL!
Dinner was meh. I made salisbury steak meatballs and put it on mashed potatoes for MiniMe and me and on noodles for Daddy and Sissy. Neither child was impressed, so we're crossing that off the list.
I had to run out to the grocery store last night. My husband said he knows that they aren't on my diet, but could I pick him up some cookies. Yes, he's still alive. I got the last laugh though because ants invaded his package of cookies. Karma can be so cruel.
Something I've noticed is that for as much sugar as I used to eat, I don't really miss it. When I see something tempting, I remind myself it'll be here after thirty days. Still, I'm not feeling very deprived. In fact, I feel like we're getting more than we're giving up. Sissy isn't on the diet, but she has scaled way back on her sugar intake, we're saving money by not eating out so much, and one of teachers at school today asked my husband if MiniMe lost weight because she was looking thinner. Yowza! And we're just barely over a week into this!

We are on the way to baseball games for our sons an hour away. I packed a grilled chicken salad (mixed greens, two boiled eggs, 1/2 grilled chicken breast, sliced almonds, tomato, and homemade dressing) to eat for lunch when we arrive. I made paleo banana pancakes to bring for our sons along with grapes and fat bombs I made for them yesterday. My husband just went through the drive-thru and got himself a double bacon cheeseburger.... At least I am able to keep the boys going with me!

So sorry to hear about your pups, @MegT90. That's such a helpless feeling.
Things have been relatively easy for me until today. We're at a neighbor's birthday BBQ. Let me explain what this means; the best damn food in California, and MiniMe and I can't have any of it! I marinaded some meat to throw on the grill for us, but the appetizers and desserts couldn't be any more tortuous. Bacon wrapped stuffed jalepenos, stuffed mushrooms, amazing homemade chips and salsa, homemade potato salad, cake, ice cream, and a plethora of drinks that must not touch our lips.  MiniMe has perfected my stink eye as she saw the spread of temptation before us. She and I made a plan and discussed what we'd do before we even went over. We were talking about the salsa, and MiniMe came up with the idea of taking romaine lettuce leaves and dipping them instead of chips! That child is so strong and resolute. I came thiiiis close to speaking one of those stuffed jalepenos, but then I thought about everything she has given up this week and I walked away from the platter.
We brought a fruit platter full of things we're allowed to have, and we head for that each time we want something else. I know we aren't supposed to snack, but this is helping us through. We brewed some green tea with mint this morning and iced it so the other drinks aren't so interesting to us. We're managing, and it isn't the end of the world. But I made my neighbor promise to make stuffed jalepenos for me on Day 31.

Hi everyone, great to read about how everyone is doing, and that at least those who are feeling irritable are able to laugh about it too  @MegT90 sorry to hear about your bad news, be kind to yourself, sounds like a non-food treat is in order!
For the most part I've been ticking on quite happily, it's been a good exercise week for me with some goals hit in the gym and also an 8 mile bike ride at the Windfarm yesterday. This morning I had my Great Aunt's funeral, which of course was sad, but she was 93 and lived a great life. The bit after the service was tricky more than difficult because I couldn't eat anything that was available, all I could have was water or black coffee, which was fine but the social interaction that goes around those situations where nothing is compliant I find so wearying! Especially the scathing "so what can you eat?" Anyway, it was mid morning and so I had had breakfast and it wasn't yet lunch so once everyone stopped going on about it it was actually fine.
Nearly at the one week mark! Well done everyone! And great to read of the NSV's people are seeing already. I was saying to my husband today that I think my skin has cleared up a bit and my eyes look brighter again. Happy days!

A couple of days ago I told a friend of mine that I was doing another W30. She was disappointed because she had wanted to ask me out to dinner and drinks with a couple of other friends. She was worried that I wouldn't be able to eat or drink anything. We went out last night and it was totally fine. I had dinner earlier, so I wasn't hungry, and drinking juice and sparkling water wasn't bad. Did I want to grab a french fry off their plates? You betcha! But I realized that it wasn't because I was hungry, I was just doing it out of habit. That made things easier. I did miss having beer, a little bit. But it wasn't a problem.
So what did I learn? That I eat a lot out of habit, especially mindless nibbling if things are right in front of me. And, I can totally be social without having to drink (and woke up without a hangover - bonus!) I've also realized how much socializing we do around alcohol and that I could totally cut back and still have a drink occasionally (after the reintroduction of course!)

Started on Monday- round 2! First time was about 6 months ago. It was amazing but I was very inconsistent over the summer and need to get back on track. This time I have been focusing on taking better care and going to sleep earlier as required. I woke up today (Day5) and felt like a million $....totally didn't expect to feel this good this fast!
Hang in there everyone! I am happy to have found a group to help keep me on the rails!

    Day 4!
Guys, I had a BIG ZIT on my cheek yesterday right before going into meet n greet for the grad student org, I'm the new president of!!!! When I read in the Whole30 Daily for day 3 that things like allergies and acne would get worse yesterday, I was like "okay okay. yeah". AND THEN IT HAPPENED! haha Oh well. If we can't laugh at ourselves, it will be a very tough 30 day ride.
Overall I'm starting to feel more energized. But my dreams have been crazy. Definitely dreamt about eating noodles in my soup at a school cafeteria. WHAT? haha The funny part is I remember the before eating the soup and the after eating the soup. My subconscious didn't even let me enjoy the flavor!
I'm still having trouble with falling asleep. I am going to try some meditation before bed tonight. I'm so overwhelmed with work and school right now. I think it's interfering with my sleep; which means it's interfering with my healing.
Hope everyone is having a fabulous day!

I love seeing a strong support group like you guys have. I had it during my first round but I guess I started this round on a less popular day and don't have a thread like this! I'm on Day 25. I really wanted to continue on strict Whole30 for longer but I have a few conferences coming up with food included. I'd like to know what my best options are for those meals. Last time I had no immediate reactions to food and I think it will be the same this time. So after reintroductions, I"ll go back to Whole30 except for those conferences (but make the best choices - last year they had things like steak and potatoes, salmon and roasted vegetables, etc...I'm sure there were non-compliant ingredients, but those were better than the pasta option!)
@Lady49er, I promise shopping and meal planning get easier! You'll learn the brands that are compliant and taste good to you. You'll get better at quickly scanning those ingredient lists too. I still check occasionally even on my favorite brands because sometimes they change things up.
I used to be the same way as you about meat/bones. I was raised vegetarian and only started eating meat 5 years ago. I could only stomach boneless, skinless chicken breast...but honestly didn't like the flavor (I was pregnant and had an aversion to nearly every vegetarian protein - dairy, eggs, legumes, etc). I realized I liked other meats more but had a hard time dealing with the other "parts". The Whole30 had me eating so much meat last year that I just had to get over it. So today I have two huge bone-in, skin-on ham shanks in my fridge ready to roast to perfection. But I know your struggle!
Keep up the good work everyone! I love reading yall's progress.

did not sleep well at ALL last night...
but here we are...DAY 4...part 1 of the "kill all things" phase according to the wh30 timeline
I have to admit I'm struggling a bit this morning.  Even my coffee is not so much helping . Going to have to make another trip to the grocery today...going through food fast around here...looking to try some of these recipes y'all have mentioned this next week! Maybe shaking things up a bit will help! Any suggestions for quick and easy non-egg breakfast???
I feel as though I have "de-puffed" a bit already but my energy level is non- existent!! I much admire y'all that are marathon training!!! As for me, I'm going to try and at least get myself out for a walk today...don't know that I am up for gym time...hoping this passes soon
Hope everyone has a fabulous day! Looking forward to seeing how you all are today!

@Margot, I have bad insomnia and sleep issues in the first week. Same with NO energy to do any kind of exercise. The first week is rough, as you've seen from what the timeline lays out. But you'll get past it!
Easiest breakfast for me is heated up leftovers from last night. I try to make sure there's at least one serving extra from each dinner, if not two. I also keep frozen pre-cooked sausage patties (I make my own from ground pork/beef and spices) and have carrot sticks, cucumbers and cherry tomatoes in the house at all times (my kids adore those veggies...and only those veggies! ). The fridge usually has at least one, if not two, types of mayo dip. Quick breakfast is microwaved (not my favorite way...but it's quick!) sausage and veggies with dip.

Good morning! I think. I seriously hope that the heads of my family are W30 compliant because I bit them all off yesterday. Every. Single. One. Even MiniMe got a taste of Mommy on the rampage. Good thing there was no added sugar. So @Margot ... I feel your pain! Let's hope today is better for everyone's sake.
We had chili last night (my recipe but total compliance). Everyone had two helpings! I love @tjgett's idea of putting it over mashed potatoes. Thanks!
I sure hope y'all who've told me that shopping gets easier are right because... duhn duhn duhnnnn ... I have to go today. Bleah.

I promise it gets easier. In my first round I took the book to bed every night because I just didn't feel I could wrap my head around any of it and I can remember the coconut milk aisle too! Shopping took an age! But as you go on you will find you start to know what brands you can have and what you can't and it all falls into place!
I tried bone broth a few times but found it such a faff that we now just throw some veg and water in the slow cooker and strain it to have veg stock and we use that any time stock is called for - works great even if it doesn't have all the nutrients of a bone broth!

HI all,  thanks @MegT90 for the cheery words! Made my day!.
Day 2 for me (14 Sept).  I've got headaches and some aches  plus feel a little spaced out.   I actually think I overate yesterday!  I was "craving" sweet after dinner and had a tablespoon of pine nuts and 2 dried figs.    I know that has to go cos I'm obviously feeding a sugar dragon in a W30 way.  I definitely wasn't hungry!  I did Melissa's trick of wanting/craving  vs real hunger... as in could I eat steamed fish and broccoli now?  Well heck no I wanted sugar sugar sugar and crunch crunch crunch - so figs n nuts  it was.   I'll work on it folks I promise.
I wasn't hungry at all during the day which was nice.  I have my par cooked veges (two containers of different ones) so it will be a mix and match day for me today.  Hopefully the headaches will go soon.   Even tho I'm feeling the physical stuff it is so good knowing that it is a healing process and a gift I'm giving myself.
    Anywho....let day 2 rock on!

i think the first time my body was probably just like, "thank the Lord she is finally feeding me nutrients and not all the stuff i can't deal with". I had been at least 80% of the time Whole30 in between times with the exception of my holiday week which was maybe more like 50-60% compliant.
Weird to be feeling it more now but glad I'm not the only one!

Hi Lady49er! Are you just having the smoothie for breakfast? If you are it seems to me like you are missing out on the recommended protein sources or meat/fish/eggs. I know that almonds do contain protein but not to the same quantities as you will find in meat/fish/eggs. I am in no way an expert but I would imagine this could be part of why you are hungry?
