Had some GREAT food this weekend and I wanted to share a few recipes...
    http://coorec.com/p/savory-smashed-sweet-potatoes-with-lemon-garlic-aioli
    http://www.planksloveandguacamole.com/2015/01/balsamic-and-basil-marinated-steak-with.html
The sauces (lemon garlic aioli and roasted red pepper pesto) really steal the show. And you'll have plenty left over to add to other meals. The aioli and pesto can make any veggies or protein to die for.
Also, I discovered that Trader Joes now has a complaint turkey breast lunch meat option (their organic line which is just turkey, salt, and water). I love doing turkey wraps (turkey with a bit of mayo stuffed with greens and rolled up) for a quick and easy lunch option.
Can't believe we are almost half way there!

May I gently ask why less bloated and gassy, newly fitting jeans, tendinitis improved, tendinitis gone, better sleep and improved joint pain are not what you would consider changes?  That sounds friggen amazing to me!

have some people in town tonight and we are going to a famous restaurant in my area that specializes in fried chicken sandwiches.  i am going to eat a big whole 30 meal before i go and just sit with them. worried that its going to be awkward for them eating in front of me, but there's not one thing on the menu that could even remotely be compliant.
i am thinking they will understand and not feel bad about eating in front of me. we'll see how it goes.  the struggle is real!!

Day 13 - I have been questioning how much I’ve been eating at meals (both protein and fats) because it feels like much more than I’m used to eating. Easy to question this since I am not seeing any real physical changes. But, in my “Day by Day” book, I was reminded to trust the process, so I’m not going to change anything for now. My plan is just to make sure I’m following the meal template and be mindful when I’m eating to recognize when I’m full. I also need to remember it’s not just about the physical appearance - so will be reading and re-reading the NSV list!
Hope everyone has an enjoyable Sunday!

@Sissi Thank you for posting the link to the article on diets. I found it incredibly interesting. It seemed the biggest negatives of W30 were the fact that no scientific studies have been completed on W30 participants, even though the program is based on science (see “It Starts With Food”). The other big negative was the fact that it required effort and planning - seems to me, if you want to see changes then you can’t expect what you’re doing to be easy - easy would be doing what you’ve always done, which is not going to produce results/changes! It also criticized the fact that it was short term - which shows me the writers of the article didnt take the time to understand the point of the program - to create habits and knowledge that will extend beyond the 30 days (especially if done with proper reintroduction).
I could go on forever about the other reviews/analysis of the other diets too...but I will save you from and endless rant!

Thanks Courtney, I’m heading to Trader Joe’s today to stick up and cacao is on my list. Anxious to try this recipe.

@DoodleJo  guess I worded that wrong...you dont have to tweak so much as make sure you use cacao not cocoa which they do mention in the recipe.
@Garden Gal I love shashuska! I make it as a breakfast dish and bake an egg or two in it. YUM.
I definitely hit the hardest days with a vengeance. Cried over my husband bringing a hoagie ( a kind I dont even like btw) into the house. He did feel bad and didnt eat if in front of me but the lingering smell in the fridge didnt help!
Im proud to say Im still making the right choices and eating the right things. Ive really really struggled with eating 3 meals a day 4-5 hours apart. It just seems something is always coming up sabotaging my carefully laid plans

omg, I’ve been having strange dreams too... not about eating non-plan food, rather they’re very intense. Usually running from something (the other night it was a hovering helicopter that went completely silent, had to find a hiding place from it.). Perhaps it’s bad habits chasing me?
Not seeing physical changes yet either, but despite being tired I do feel better. Like my body is cleaning itself out. Spent some time on the troubleshooting section of the forum and will be focusing on more water to help the process.
This morning am planning out the week’s meals then heading out to grocery shop for my weekly cooking session tomorrow. It’s much easier than at the start because I know what I like and how much to make, then how to plan for end of week when stuff prepared on Sunday is gone or past it’s fridge date.
    Onward!

Happy Day 12 everyone!  I'm at the stage where I Iook at myself in the mirror and think: "Aren't I supposed to be seeing changes by now?" I still look the same!  Tummy is still poofy and I don't feel my clothes are fitting any better... seems like some of you are having the same issues?  Maybe I'm just wishing for results too soon?
I feel good, and my cravings for wine have got a heck of a lot better (yea!)  Having said that, I am avoiding social events because I don't trust myself that much yet. I can handle the office with its bagels, cream cheese, ever-flowing goldfish and bowls full of chocolate... somehow, I can breeze past all that without worrying about caving into temptation as I munch my hardboiled egg and DNX bar.  BUT, if I go to friends and they are all drinking wine/sparkling wine/champagne, I just don't think I can do that yet.  I do have a big social function I've been invited to on January 27 which will be Day 26 for us, and I'm hoping by then I will be strong enough to sip sparkling water and smile.  Hey, maybe I'll even be able to fit into a dress that's too tight for me by then?
It seems my go-to dish is the shepherd's pie.  I think its the fact that in one dish there's meat, potatoes and veggies, and I made a huge batch again 2 days ago, mixing up the veggies so I added onions, carrots, celery, and leeks with the ground beef and regular potatoes on top with a few slices of compliant salami. I never knew that using salami as a topping while baking was so delicious!  It gets all crispy and yummy.  The pie fills you up so much and it's all good stuff.
Thanks to everyone for all these great posts - so wonderful to read the experiences!

Here's from the Can I have guide... I just looked through the rules from the link here and don't see that wording.  Can you provide a link as to where you found it?
Canola Oil: Yes, reluctantly (because sometimes, you have to dine out)
While we don’t think vegetable oils are a healthy choice (understatement of the century), we don’t expressly rule them out on the Whole30. If we did, you’d never be able to eat outside of your own kitchen, because all restaurants use them in cooking. We wanted to create the healthiest program possible, but we also need it to be do-able for those who travel for business or pleasure, or simply want to dine out during the month.
Tip: Eliminate the consumption of vegetable oils at home, even if you’re not on the Whole30, and make sure the rest of your diet is focused on the most nutritious choices possible, especially if you dine out frequently.

Kudos to you.  Good cooks improvise all the time.  Good food doesn't have to be hard to be good.  Whole30 has left us with a lot of options to make some really tasty dishes.  Your chicken curry sounds yummy!

Not sure if it's the same as in the thread I'm linking to, but you may want to check the ingredients on your mayonnaise just in case. If it's made with canola oil or soybean oil, it's not compliant.

Yes!  I feel the same way.  I can't believe I have made it 1/3 through Whole30!  I am finding solace in a cup of tea at night when my hubby has a wine/beer.  Also, I treated myself at the grocery store yesterday by buying the latest People magazine that features women who have lost more than half of their weight.  It is inspirational!  Even though I don't agree with the Nutri system/optifast methods that many of them used, I still am impressed with their resolve and dedication.  I don't need to loose half my body weight, so it should be easier for me - but it's tough to stick to it.  I just keep telling myself that I am smart and strong for making these changes  - and that the changes are not really a sacrifice, but a smarter way to live.

    Happy day 10 everyone!
I haven't posted in a couple of days - hadn't been feeling great, was tired, and losing motivation, but I powered through - sticking to the plan, going to bed extra early, and trying to remind myself that with only a week or so in, it was unrealistic to expect that I would be seeing massive changes.  I also followed along with everyone's posts and found it helped to hear how everyone was doing!
Waking up today, felt much better!  On Sunday, I had meal prepped, planning on doing homemade chicken sausage patties (Whole30 book) with spaghetti squash topped with a veggie mixture, but Monday the spaghetti squash and cooked veggies were very unappealing to me.  So, instead I have been having the patties with a large salad of mixed greens topped with olive oil, vinegar and herbs and a hard-boiled egg on the mornings where I was extra hungry.  This morning, I also added a half of an orange, a few blueberries and coconut flakes - DELICIOUS!  I'm not too worried about adding the fruit, since I haven't been eating much of it during the past nine days.
To avoid wasting the cooked veggies I mentioned above - I ended up throwing them with the spaghetti squash, adding leftover chicken, and topping with a curry sauce (based on this recipe: https://thehealthyfoodie.com/butternut-squash-kale-ground-beef-breakfast-bowl/)  and had it for a dinner and lunch this week - my favorite meals so far this W30!
I hope everyone has a great day 10!

Hi everyone! So, I decided to make the chicken curry recipe in the Whole 30 book last night, but of course didn't read it all the way through for directions first because I had all the ingredients and thought "fine, I can do this."  Well, after looking at the complexity of three pots/pans/dishes plus a food processor which I don't own, I was about to throw in the towel, it was getting late, but then I thought I'd improvise. I really detest cooking so always try to make things easy.  Here's what I did:
2 chicken breasts in a Pyrex dish, sprinkled with a ton of baby spinach, then a layer of sliced potatoes.  I smothered all that in curry sauce which I made with olive oil, onion, garlic, crushed tomatoes, coconut cream, a TON of hot madras curry powder, (I love spicy) and salt and pepper. Put it in the oven for 50 minutes and voila!  Tasty, succulent chicken with veggies all in one dish!
