    W30 and "morbid obesity"

Hippyhappybaby, I know exactly the gnawing feeling you're talking about. I used to get it, too, before and/or after a meal and felt it could only be relieved by eating/eating more. I'm on my second W30 now and don't get the gnawing anymore. I don't know if you are going to include sweet potato or pumpkin with each meal..... I didn't do that in the first few weeks of my first W30, and until I did, I still felt hungry even WITH the right portions of protein, fat and heaps of vegetables. That's another thing - I find cooked veggies more satiating than salad, even though I usually include some leafy greens along with my veggies. Hope this and all the other comments help!

    Haemochromatosis, anyone?

Thanks for your comments, everyone who replied to my post, but Kate gave up the W30 on Friday. The nausea was too debilitating for her. I, however, am soldiering on with my 2nd....and having a lot more difficulty with cravings this time round!

    Haemochromatosis, anyone?

Summergirl is correct - Kate's haemochromatosis was diagnosed by her doctor. Her father's liver has been damaged by the same complaint so she's assuming the same thing has happened to her..... Thanks for the tips, missmary. Kate always drinks lots of water and she only tried green smoothies with her last 'health kick', not the W30. It was good to read that lots of others experience nausea, I didn't realise that because I didn't feel it at all. The digestive enzymes might help though, I'll pass that on.

    Haemochromatosis, anyone?

Haemochromatosis can damage your organs, so (without putting words into anyone's mouth) I was wondering if perhaps her liver was having trouble processing that amount of fat. We were hoping someone else who's done the W30 has had the same complaint and wonder how they've fared while on it.

    Haemochromatosis, anyone?

Yeah, know the fat's important - it was just an experiment to see if it was that causing the problem.... Thanks very much for your input, I'm hoping a moderator can help, too. Kate's too shy to write on the forum herself!

    Haemochromatosis, anyone?

She normally cooks with olive oil and eats avocado, but not nearly as much fat as she's having now. I suggested she cut her amounts in half which helped a bit with the nausea this morning.

    Haemochromatosis, anyone?

She does have a bit of a sensitive tummy (eg throwing up after she drank a green smoothie). Her diet would normally include all the usual carbs, of course, but otherwise she eats pretty healthily.
  8. My friend is doing her first Whole30 with me as I do my second.... We're on day 5 and she feels nauseous every time she eats. Could this have something to do with the fact she has haemochromatosis (high levels of iron in the blood)? Anybody have answers for Kate? Would really appreciate some input!

Thanks for the link, NatPatBen! Can't wait to try these - once I'm through reintroductions etc! I've enjoyed reading your posts

Hahaha, yes, good thinking! What a shame about the dairy - I know you were really looking forward to the sour cream! Maybe eventually if you're able to heal your gut enough with probiotics/fermented vegetables/staying off sugar etc, your healthier 'intestinal flora' may be able to handle them?! I'm certainly going to be eating as compliantly as possible so I can do the same - with gluten, I mean. I already take probiotics but when we get back from our trip I'll be looking into fermenting my own veggies and making keffir. The more I read about a healthy gut, the more I realise how important it is and how worthwhile the effort is to have it! Let us know how you go with the other reintroductions, and thanks for the link!

Hi CupcakeNinja, yes I'm also doing the reintroductions straight from ISWF (just switched the order of them)! I introduced bread and pasta on the first day - by the afternoon I felt like I had a balloon in my belly! On Day 4 had dairy and besides my sinuses feeling a bit blocked I was ok, even though I know if I'd kept the dairy up that problem would've just gotten worse. Two days ago I introduced legumes with the same problem as gluten - heaps of gas which I still have! After reading the section on legumes in ISWF again last night, I think I'll happily avoid legumes from now on. Tomorrow is my last reintroduction, of non-gluten grains. I'm wondering whether in the case of pretty severe reactions whether it would be better to leave more than 2 days between reintroductions, but I don't have that time because we're heading overseas in 3 days. How have yours been going since your post? All this talk about Larabars has me fascinated..... I live in Australia and we don't have them here. What are they like and can someone post a recipe, please?!

    Day 28 - who's with me?!

Wow!!! Thanks for that, CC. That gives me plenty to go on.....which I'll do tomorrow afternoon. Tomorrow reintroducing dairy - woohoo!!! Is paleo very different to what we did on the Whole 30? Tonight should be interesting - going to a friend's place who has his own wood-fired pizza oven and pizza's all there is on offer. They were pretty cool about me bringing my own dinner, I just hope the aroma of sizzling mozzarella isn't my undoing!

    Day 28 - who's with me?!

CC - 7lbs is still pretty good! I get a lot of info/comfort from my sister regarding all of this, since she's my 'expert' on the subject. She said that after she finished her first W30 she kept on losing weight, even though she'd introduced wine and a few other things. So that might happen for us, too. I did exercise while on it, but not as much as I normally do. Do you get your menu inspiration from mainly Well Fed & ISWF, or websites? Can you recommend any? Amy - Did you do the reintroductions after your other W30s? What reactions did you get?

    Day 28 - who's with me?!

Yeah CC, coconut aminos are yummy! I agree with what you said about sugar, making a conscious decision about what sugar you'll have and just enjoy the moment, with no guilt! Not that I'm going to have any until I've finished all this reintroduction.....Did you weigh yourself and measaure? How did you go?

    Day 28 - who's with me?!

Thanks, Amy! I ate bread and pasta yesterday, and felt like I had a balloon in my belly from 2pm, then woke this morning with ulcers in my mouth....I think I need to stay away from gluten!
