So what's everyone doing this weekend?  Luckily, I'm staying VERY busy, which is better for me compliance-wise than having a lot of down time.  I tend to want to eat (and drink wine) when I'm watching tv, or not doing much of anything.  This first weekend I'll be away from home a lot so won't have that challenge.  Worried about future weekends, though.  What do others do to curb the cravings that aren't from hunger, but boredom, sadness, stress, etc?

We don't recommend having a sweet 'dessert' at the end of dinner... brushing teeth is a great idea but dessert just keeps the idea that it's necessary to end the meal with a sweet, even if that sweet is just fruit.  You're welcome to have fruit WITH your meal but holding it to the end and treating it as the finale is advised against.

Omg!  I feel you - I had a plate slip out of the fridge to the floor a few minutes ago and actually called it (loudly) the F-word!! Had to apologize to my dogs who appeared to be wondering if they did something wrong.  The plate didn't even break!  I'm also feeling grateful that I love black coffee!

Okay All... Day 5 has started and I am in the "Kill All The Things" stage for sure.  Woke up to a small headache after a night of okay slumber.  Made my black coffee, took one sip, and dumped it down the drain.  I think it's because I saw my little Starbucks logo on the outside and that triggered my WANT for some sugary, creamy coffee.  I was actually mad at a cup!!
So...I poured another cup of black coffee and I am drinking it slowly and quietly while I work.  I feel like today is going to be stressful, so I am trying to relax into it so I don't project that negative attitude all day.  It is taking a toll on my mental stability to get into the right mindset!
On the upside, my husband said he would give me a shoulder massage after we both are done with work!    He also said he wasn't coming around me ALL day because I am just "not nice to be around right now."  While that might offend some, I am thankful he listened when I told him to just leave me alone because it isn't him - it's me!  I feel like W30 is bringing us closer together as we are working as a team and supporting each others goals.  He wants to lose weight and I want to get control of my gastroparesis (and lose weight).
    Hopefully, nothing dies today!

@MarieC1978, thank you so much, this post makes me smile. Isn't it funny how sad it can make us feel when someone takes a sip of their coffee and then goes "mmmmmmmmmmm" ... haha! I love that you have this agreement with him to keep quiet. I also love that he's supporting you through your 30 days in his modified way. There really is strength in numbers!

I actually found that section shortly after posted, and then felt like an ass for posting here first and not properly searching (or even looking at) the forums.  Truly sorry about that, guys...I hate being "that" person.  But thank you for all the help!
Your husband may be my W30 spirit animal, lol.  I have a couple other mods that I know make it not a real W30 (that I won't discuss, I promise!), but it remains a huge challenge for me, so I'm very glad to have the support of you all!

There is a section on the Forum titled W30 for Athletes. I haven't looked and read through all of the posts, but there is a ton of information and I see a lot of runners posting. Before you jump off plan for your runs, take a look and see what struggles others faced and how they combated it. I think the first few days to two weeks at most will be the hardest.  I'm sure you can find that answer somewhere in there
having said this, I am a firm believer in people doing what is best for them. My husband is doing a "modified" W30 as he calls it. He has Stevia in his coffee and snacks every once in a while, but his meals are compliant to support me. He also doesn't talk about his coffee at all as I am dying for my Venti Quad Nonfat White Mocha!  If you don't want to follow W30 completely because of your runs, that is your choice. No shame in keeping your physical AND mental health moving in a positive direction.

Okay All...Funny thing happened.  I am making some awesome burgers tonight with all the veggies and a sweet potato bun.  I have some pickles in the fridge that I wanted to use on my burger.  So I check to see if they are compliant.  I look at the ingredients and I see Alum listed.  I don't know what that is, so I google "What is Alum?"
The third entry down on Google is:
Alum Uses For Tightening The Vagina Naturally - Medicinal & Others
Pretty sure I'm not gonna want to eat that anymore!!!

Yeah, it was really a mixed bag...there wasn't much middle ground.  Either running on W30 was the devil or it  was the easiest thing ever
I'm going to try my 10 mile run this weekend with dates as fuel.  If it winds up truly miserable, though, I'm willing to compromise on my W30 for my long runs.  I know, I know:  it's not a W30, then...you* can save the "tough love" for someone else.  Running is important for my mental health and I'm not willing to give it up (or give up on my goals) in the name of a W30.  I understand it's not the same, that I will lose some of the benefits of W30, etc... but that's a compromise I'm willing to make.  (But I AM hopeful that dates will work well for me and that this will be a non-issue!)

*Well, not, YOU.  Like, the mods and the world and everyone, lol.

    @Yuliya Porter and @Brensuma
Things to remember...we are ALL always thinking "Good Job" because you have made the decision to make your life better!  So, if we don't type it any other time...GOOD JOB!  You have done a lot of work and you should be proud of yourself!  Preparing for the W30 is, I think, harder than doing W30!  First timers are always going to feel insecure because we are entering a world we are unfamiliar with.  It's scary and we get nervous we are going to screw up or fail.  So, know that we are very proud of your decision to do W30 and we want you to get the maximum out of YOUR hard work.
Take suggestions and absorb them as just that...suggestions.  You are you and I am me.  We are different and what works for you may not work for me.  Some of us are crafty and can sneak items into the park better than others.  Some can't.  I am often at baseball fields when my son plays where they don't allow coolers or food because they sell them.  I have to walk out to my car for my meals and drinks if I don't want to buy something.  IT IS A PAIN IN MY BOOTIE, but that is a choice I have to make.  Some people can eat a meal after they work out and some will pray to the porcelain God if they eat anything.  Do what is best for your body within the parameters of W30 and you will both be fine.
Also, I often tell my kids to read posts with different inflections in the wording to ensure it can't be taken out of context (whether I wrote it or I received it).  I have very thick skin, so I don't get offended...ever...when I am reading someone's post or text.  Sometimes, someone will post something that seems to have tons of attitude, but in reality, it is simply pointing out their suggestions and making sure others get the most from their experience.  You cannot know what kind of attitude a person has when they are typing what they are saying.  And sometimes, a person will type something and not proof it to ensure their message is received with encouragement and love.
I'm glad to see we are all growing together and bonding with each other.  I will apologize now because I know around Day 10 I am going to be a raging mess because I will want a Venti Quad Nonfat White Mocha in the WORST way.  I will probably swallow my foot whole at some point and I will have to beg for forgiveness.  This group ROCKS!

Well, Dr. Google was a mixed bag, LOL.  About half the sites told me that endurance sports and Whole30 are not compatible.  The other half told me to eat bananas, applesauce, and/or dates for fuel.  Since I loathe bananas and applesauce, I guess I'll try dates on my long runs.

Okay question:  any runners here?  I'm training for a half marathon and I'm really struggling with how to fuel my runs.  I always have toast+PB+honey before my run and then if I'm running 8 miles or more will take a gel every 4 miles or so.  I've done runs without this and I cannot stress how  miserable it is.  Thoughts?  (I should search the forum, I bet... off to do that.)

Sooo... totally forgot to tell everyone... Mayo with a little lemon juice as a replacement for sour cream... AWESOME!  Not exactly the same but it helped to keep my baked potato from being too dry and only had to use a little.  The flavor was very good!  I mixed my mayo and lemon juice in a small bowl (about 1/3 cup mayo to about 1 tsp. lemon juice - hard to tell as I just squeezed the juice instead of measuring and tasted as I went).  My husband is doing a "modified" W30 with me as much as he feels he should.  He used a little on his baked potato and his comment was "not bad" so that's a win!

Sitting here sipping on some roasted dandelion tea with my new favorite coconut milk and cinnamon topping thinking how lucky I feel to 1.) have found this program and 2.) to have lucked into this start date and "met" you guys.  This is kinda' amazing . . . we have NO IDEA who each other was and yet there is caring and honesty and collaboration and love and it's all because we truly know that we need each other to do this and we're willing to band together to make it through.
Mushy stuff aside, I had my favorite dinner yet . . . Bought some miniature chicken legs from a local farmer (we're VERY lucky to have an active farmers' co-op in my city) and covered them with the W30 buffalo sauce (good Lord is that good!) and baked them.  Finished with a salad that had everything good in it (including some olives, avocado, chopped organic / raw cashews and capers) and some of the lemon garlic cole slaw (also in the W30 book).  I could eat like this forever . . . oh yeah, that's the plan!
Feelin' a little tiger blood-ish today which has me kinda' worried that I'm doing something wrong.  Hope not - I know I'm not messing up food but I do feel good - sleepier than normal and I have a strange little rash on both of my upper arms but relatively good otherwise.
Everyone stay strong and keep the support coming.  It's truly amazing.
P.S.  I did this somewhat backwards.  I read the Whole30 book first so I could get started on the program after I decided to do it but now am going back and reading "It Starts With Food".  That book is FABULOUS - everyone should read it time permitting.  It truly motivates you even more and I know it's going to help me when I am weak and thinking about that damn glass of wine!!!
    Good day all!

Okay, so clearly I spoke too soon. Day 1 got jacked at supper...I unthinkingly popped some prepared chopped salad in my mouth (sugar in the dressing) followed by pickled herring (more sugar). I am less than thrilled, obviously, but I guess if I have to restart, I'd rather it be redoing Day 1 vs starting over at Day 20. I still made improvements today over all, so I'll treat it as a learning experience, brush up on the book, and restart tomorrow!

I have been using Ghee for a few years now and no one in my family knew!  Start out using less that you think you should (it's stronger than butter but not by much).  I love it on my baked potatoes, using it to saute my onions and peppers, and using it when I don't feel like EVOO or want a different flavor profile on my food.  It is very versatile, but if you have never used it, start small and taste as you go so you know if you like it and want more.
