My other half has bad eczema on his feet which has been bothering him lately. As i sat watching him picking his feet (romantic night in!), i said "are you going to make another appointment with the doctor? Or perhaps you could do an elimination diet like i've been doing?". He replied "Well, i have been, haven't i? I eat the same dinner as you"
    Yes, dear.
We'll just discount the porridge oats for breakfast, the pizza/burger/sandwich/sausage roll at lunch, the chocolate biscuits in your cup of tea (milk, one sugar), the bowl of ice cream with chocolate raisins after your Whole30-compliant dinner, the nightly can of beer & the smoking. Sounds like a pretty good Whole30 to me!

    What?

You cook dinner & discreetly hack off & eat the fat from your OH's steak before serving because you know he'll just leave it or FEED IT TO THE CAT

Since the recent U.S. News, and subsequently CNN.com, article ranking paleo really low among "diets," people keep pointing this out to me.  The author of the article gave it bad marks for not being sustainable because it's too restrictive.

Better stick to something less restrictive, like Slim Fast.

We recently had a major snow storm here, and we had a standby crew stay at the fire station for the day. (We're a volunteer department, I'm the Chief). We were getting some snacks from the grocery store to tide us over, and the people who were going shopping said' oh yeah, the Chief doesn't eat crap, what would you like?' I asked for some fruit. They came back with the usual processed garbage and a pack of green grapes and tangerines. I was happy to see by the end of the day that everyone had eaten all of the fruit and several bags of chips and other toxins remained unopened.
I occasionally, once every couple months, will have some Chinese food. Way off the reservation, but a treat. About 15 minutes after eating it a couple weeks ago, I said to my wife 'You know, for someone who eats the way I do, eating Chinese is like cheating on your wife. You immediately regret it.'

My mother-in-law has numerous allergies & sensitivities, including (but not limited to) dark chocolate, bananas, washing powder, hayfever, damp & strawberries "that have gone over a bit". She's recently been suffering from an all-over itchy fine rash, which she's attributing to excess washing powder deposits in her clothes. I casually remarked that sometimes an underlying & not-immediately-obvious sensitivity to wheat or gluten could make the immune system overworked & unable to fight off other allergens, "fascinating" i said... She smiled at me blankly & said "Yes, i think i'm just going to buy a new washing machine"
    Hmm

I gave away my scale.  It helped.  A lot.  The most astonishing thing was what happened next.  I went to the house of the person I gave the scale to.  They had two scales now (scale addict!!).  I stepped on one.  It showed one weight.  I stepped on the other.  It showed another weight.  I cannot possibly have lost or gained weight in one second.  It convinced me I had made the right decision.

I know there are folks who are looking at major weight loss in their futures.  And for those folks, a scale might be part of a successful strategy (though not DURING a Whole30 of course).  But for ten pounds?  I'm not convinced a scale is useful.  I found, the longer I ate the Whole30 way, that my weight didn't change, but my body composition did (and I'm far from being an enthusiastic exerciser).  I don't think a scale could have prepared me for how my body was going to change.  I just look very different when I eat clean.  But I don't know what I weigh anymore.  (I also don't look at the doctor's office.)

Don't know if you have kids/have been pregnant, but if so, I don't know anything short of major surgery that will fix the skin and maybe the muscles.  I'm not thrilled that women are told our bodies need to be stuck in some sort of pre-pregnancy holding pattern.  I'm never going to look like I did before my twin pregnancy.  But dangit, I survived and so did my daughters, and now they sit at the dinner table and look at me funny while I eat my kale.  Damn and blast anyone who would tell me I need a better tummy.  I'm looking at you, women's fashion magazines.

Eat up, buy clothes that fit, give away the scale, and expect your body to keep changing over time.  It's weird to live this way - but it's good.

I'm like well if I don't eat grains and dairy then my first meal is the same as lunch or dinner, meat and vegetables.
    In my mind....duh!

When you live in Asia and eat all your Indian/Chinese food without rice or naan…. why waste the precious stomach space?

Very few people have heard about Paleo, much less Whole30 here so they look at me like I'm crazy!!!
