My other half has bad eczema on his feet which has been bothering him lately. As i sat watching him picking his feet (romantic night in!), i said "are you going to make another appointment with the doctor? Or perhaps you could do an elimination diet like i've been doing?". He replied "Well, i have been, haven't i? I eat the same dinner as you"
    Yes, dear.
We'll just discount the porridge oats for breakfast, the pizza/burger/sandwich/sausage roll at lunch, the chocolate biscuits in your cup of tea (milk, one sugar), the bowl of ice cream with chocolate raisins after your Whole30-compliant dinner, the nightly can of beer & the smoking. Sounds like a pretty good Whole30 to me!

    What?

Since the recent U.S. News, and subsequently CNN.com, article ranking paleo really low among "diets," people keep pointing this out to me.  The author of the article gave it bad marks for not being sustainable because it's too restrictive.

Better stick to something less restrictive, like Slim Fast.

We recently had a major snow storm here, and we had a standby crew stay at the fire station for the day. (We're a volunteer department, I'm the Chief). We were getting some snacks from the grocery store to tide us over, and the people who were going shopping said' oh yeah, the Chief doesn't eat crap, what would you like?' I asked for some fruit. They came back with the usual processed garbage and a pack of green grapes and tangerines. I was happy to see by the end of the day that everyone had eaten all of the fruit and several bags of chips and other toxins remained unopened.
I occasionally, once every couple months, will have some Chinese food. Way off the reservation, but a treat. About 15 minutes after eating it a couple weeks ago, I said to my wife 'You know, for someone who eats the way I do, eating Chinese is like cheating on your wife. You immediately regret it.'

My mother-in-law has numerous allergies & sensitivities, including (but not limited to) dark chocolate, bananas, washing powder, hayfever, damp & strawberries "that have gone over a bit". She's recently been suffering from an all-over itchy fine rash, which she's attributing to excess washing powder deposits in her clothes. I casually remarked that sometimes an underlying & not-immediately-obvious sensitivity to wheat or gluten could make the immune system overworked & unable to fight off other allergens, "fascinating" i said... She smiled at me blankly & said "Yes, i think i'm just going to buy a new washing machine"
    Hmm

" You eat that for breakfast?" After I have mentioned i dont eat grains and dairy and they ask me what I have for brekky...
I'm like well if I don't eat grains and dairy then my first meal is the same as lunch or dinner, meat and vegetables.
    In my mind....duh!

If you mean curd as in curds & whey, then no.
If you mean curd as in lemon curd, then no.
I could have just said no, couldn't i?

I had this discussion with a friend of mine

Friend - Well it's not healthy not to eat carbs.  Our bodies need carbs.

Me - Oh I couldn't agree with you more.  Definitely our bodies need carbs

Friend - but then why are you cutting them out if you feel that way

Me - Oh but I haven't cut them out.  I eat plenty of them.

Friend - But you cut out pasta and bread - how can you be eating carbs?

Me - I eat sweet potato, beets, squashes, celery root, parsnips - these are all carbs.

Friend - no they are not - they're vegetables!

Me - Mental Facepalm - lets' just call them carby vegetables.

"I couldn't do what you do" (those who did know me 70+ pounds ago)
"What DO you eat?" (coworkers who see my great lunches daily)
"You have such willpower" (to do what?  eat right???)
"When are you going to be done with all of this?" (ummmm, hopefully I'm never going back!)
"I can't BELIEVE you're eating THAT!"  (I am soooo going to say this one someday to someone!)
"I only used a "little" (insert margerine, olivio, sugar, fake sugar, etc.)"   (my sweet mother in law who tries but doesn't understand)

Oh, I could go on and on, but I will say that leading by quiet example gets more people to stop saying some of these things!  =)

Tuesday night, at a friend's house with several other friends for dinner.

V: Speaking of carbs, I made this terrific low carb dessert! It was gluten-free brownies on the bottom, with whipped cream and raspberries and chocolate sauce.

Me: I don't think it was low carb.

V: Oh, but it was! The brownies were gluten free!

    Me: Gluten =/= carbs.

V: Oh. But it was at least healthy because it was gluten free!

Me: *mental facepalm* *polite smile* *talk to someone else*

Well I did meet a person once who was convinced that going to a specific canadian city made her sick.....  that is why she didn't like the city and vowed that she would never return there.  :S  I never quite understood that one.

You all are such a wealth if information! Thank you for all of the great suggestions :-)
I ate a mini meal an hour after getting up when hunger struck, but frankly it made me feel ill. It was left over dinner of pork, squash and broc....not easy on the belly at 6 am but even the few bites that I had were well balanced and enough to tide me over.
Now I have just finished my first bulletproof coffee and feel more normal than I have in three days, woot! I will have a proper breakfast shortly, I think perhaps this mini meal at 6 followed by a proper breakfast at 8 may be the best approach for me.
Also I do sit down an enjoy most of my meals the trouble is getting up at 5 and not haveing the time to sit down and eat until 8...that is part of the challenge. Also despising eggs for breakfast ;-)
I greatly appreciate all of the ideas and suggestion!

At the beginning of the week, I shred a bunch of sweet potatoes with my new nifty food processor and store them in containers in the fridge. When I wake up, I throw some olive oil in a pan, toss in a generous handful of the shredded sweet potato and several compliant sausage links. Let it cook while I drink my coffee. End of story.
