    Detox February - NEW

You look really low on fats, especially for someone who is trying to gain weight. I know you're not supposed to count calories on W30, but are you sure you're getting enough to actually put on weight? I think I would lose weight on that menu! You don't have any starchy veg at all...

    SchrodingersCat doing the thing diary!

Day 22. Where is my tiger blood?? I'm tired, I'm achey, I don't want to exercise, I don't want to eat, I slept badly last night... I don't think it's W30 related but WAHHHH. I want to feel amazing. I am hitting that point I always tend to hit on an eating plan where I'm following it to the T, and totally sticking with it, and my horrid little subconscious starts undermining me and trying to convince me it's not working or not worth it, or I'm not doing it right, and I may as well just quit. I don't have any food boredom, I'm still making yummy interesting things, and I'm not even craving anything non-compliant, my brain's just being a jerk, which seems to be its default setting a lot of the time. But I have no intention of giving it away, I have the rest of the week planned and I haven't been struggling on weekends, so there's no reason to think I won't make it all the way Day 31 for me is Valentines Day and I'm tossing up reintro-ing a nice cheese platter (no crackers!) or a glass of wine. The wine I hesitate on because it's a work night, and if it gives me an unreasonable hangover, I don't want that at work. Plus, I've not really been missing the wine, and I'm not sure I want to add it back right away... Anyway, today's food: Breakfast: 2 poached eggs with The Goods Spicy Kraut Lunch: Coleslaw with leftover roast pork and chimmichurri mayonnaise Dinner: White fish with an orange and lemon sauce, with stir fried veggies. Scratch that, Hubster is keen to try coconut crusted fish, so that's what we're having
  3. Hello! Wondering if there are other food prepping hobbyists out there? I have been making my own bacon, ham, pastrami, prosciutto, sausages, salami etc for quite some time. I also use my dehydrator and smoker to make spices, spice blends, dried vegetable stock powders, veggie chips, jerky etc. I have to say, it really does make prepping for a Whole 30 easier! As long as I'm organised a few weeks before, I can stock up on compliant ham, bacon, pastrami, taco seasoning, stock... Anyone else into this kind of food prep? What wonders have you made? Happy to share recipes and tips - you don't need special equipment for ham or bacon, and a simple smoker makes the pastrami, spices jerky etc easy!

Home food preppers (bacon, charcuterie, dehydrator foods etc)

Yum! I didn't think of doing a Curry one!! The proportions I've been told are 50/50 chili and garlic and then capers to taste. I love capers, so I'll probably dump a fair in!

    Red Lobster Whole30 Compliant Dishes?

Good luck! I am obsessed with their biscuits, so it's probably a good thing we don't have Red Lobster in Australia

    Red Lobster Whole30 Compliant Dishes?

Someone asked this in the FB Whole 30 group I joined and the consensus was Snow Crab legs. Apparently they are steamed. Suggested adding a plain baked potato and some broccoli. Apparently their butter is also clarified butter, so it's compliant (I'd check with the wait staff, but a lot of their dishes with butter have a "no milk" allergen stamp, which would indicate it's clarified). Someone else mentioned ordering the salmon cooked plain with lemon. The website has an allergen wizard where you can tick boxes for all you want to avoid, and it gives you options. It won't rule out every W30 non-compliant dish, but it would give you a stripped down list to work from!

    How to Incorporate Mayo

New one - I mixed my homemade mayo with my homemade chimichurri and added a bit of extra red wine vinegar to thin it down and it is an AMAZING salad dressing! I'm having it on coleslaw, but I can see it on a green salad as well. It would also be great mixed with chicken or tuna, its really zesty!

So my homemade saurkraut came out perfect!! It's delicious, I'm so pleased. No mold, no funkiness - just yummy fermented cabbage and carrots. I did put chilli through it but that flavour has been absorbed - I think I'll have to add a lot more to the next batch to get the spicy kraut I've been wanting. Next on I'm going to do fermented chilli and garlic as a condiment - once it's fermented, I'll mix some capers through. I'm also going to do some fermented cauliflower, too.

    Day 32 - "What if I can't drink beer?!??"

Bon Voyage!! You are so strong making the journey while being compliant (especially in Business Class - I couldn't resist the luxury!). I look forward to welcoming you to the timezone! There are gluten free beers now, even craft brews, if your hubby wants to give some of those a go!

    SchrodingersCat doing the thing diary!

Day 21! Another weekend successfully navigated, and a blessedly clear week free of distractions coming up. Hubster is out both Thursday and Friday nights, so I might have something I wouldn't usually make for him, a spaghetti squash dish, or some salmon. Today's food: Breakfast: 2 poached eggs with The Goods Spicy Kraut Lunch: Coleslaw with leftover roast pork and chimmichurri mayonnaise Dinner: Steak with roasted veg medley (sweet potato, carrot, parsnip, broccoli, asparagus) tossed with baby spinach and dressing

Been feeling a bit flat the last 2 days, a bit headachey, and a bit achey all over. More likely to be the exercising that I'm not used to than the W30, because I've been eating really well and within the meal templates (largely) and no different to how I have been for the last 20 days. 20 down, 10 to go! One more weekend, I thought they would be harder than they are...

    Whole 30 & Alcohol

I agree with the above. Plus, keto, paleo etc are all diets which expect you to stay on them until you've at least lost the weight you want to lose, or even as a lifestyle change. The W 30 is for 30 days. That's it. I get it, my husband and I drink a fair bit, especially on weekends and our social occasions are always alcohol-centric. I put off my W30 for a week because I had a housewarming and a birthday party. I deliberately set it for a 30 day period when we had less than usual social engagements but my husband still drinks on weekends and we've still had to go out (including an important work lunch when it was expected I'd have wine and didn't) and I just... didn't. I'm actually finding it easier than I expected. And I think that drinking would definitely make it harder for me to make good choices, both while drinking and the morning after.

I'm thinking that the connection will be that the vertigo was caused by vestibular migraine, and the migraines are caused by some food or another. Though knowing my body, it's anyone's guess (I'm a classic for reactions and symptoms that just make no sense - I'm allergic to an ingredient they put in "non-allergenic" cosmetics to replace a common allergen, for goodness sake). Weekend again!! I'm REALLY not struggling with the alcohol, which is actually my biggest surprise. It was just such an ingrained part of the weekend, work even opens the 'bar' at 5pm on a Friday and everyone heads to the staff room for a drink. But, I'm just not. Brunch today: Potato, capsicum, spanish onion and mushrooms cubed tossed in oil and Old Bay and roasted with complaint beef sausage, tossed with baby spinach and rocket and topped with an egg fried in duck fat.

    Detox February - NEW

Greetings Ryan! I'm on day 18 after being "gonna start" for probably a year myself. I'm loving it! Feel free to look up my Whole 30 Log in the Log section near the bottom of the forum for a (probably very boring) day by day of what I eat and how I feel lol. Don't be afraid to experiment, don't be afraid to ask, use the forum as the great source of info it is (hint: the search function isn't great, you're better to google "Whole 30 forum [query- i.e. can I have ______]" but sooooo many questions have already been asked and answered by the excellent mods here that it's easy to find info! There's also FB groups which are really interactive, the "Whole 30 Support Group" is a good one.

My first Whole30: done and dusted!

Well done on completing Meg!! Amazing achievement, and I'm so glad it's helped with your mindset. Thank you for documenting your reintro, its really good to see a real-time account of it! I'm very leery of reintro for sugar, I'm going to make it a day on its own because I'm sure it sets me off. Totally expecting dairy to set me off too as it used to be a migraine trigger.

You just gave me a flashback of the Taco Bell advertisement where the woman smuggles nachos into a game under a fake pregnancy belly

    SchrodingersCat doing the thing diary!

Day 18!! I'm really doing it!! Yesterday's lunch was really the only challenge I have for this month, and I feel like I passed a test getting through it. I also mentioned to my husband last night - I don't have vertigo. I can't quite pinpoint when it stopped but I know I haven't had it for days - for context, I have been plagued by chronic vertigo for almost 2 years, which no one (2 neuros, one neuro-opthamologist, an ENT, 3 GPs) could diagnose a cause for save for "vestibular migraine". I was put on medication for it which totally removed my "Not hungry" signals and led to binging and between the meds, and not being able to exercise due to feeling like I was on the Gravitron 24/7 I gained like 80lbs. I changed meds a few months back, which literally overnight stopped the binging (seriously, I went from 5 meals a day plus snacks (I'm talking whole blocks of chocolate, bags of lollies etc) to actually forgetting to eat) and started actually stopping the vertigo. When I started W30 I was still getting it a couple of times a day, especially when stressed, and now it's gone. This would definitely (to me) point to the vesibular migraines being food triggered, which fits with my long history of food triggered migraines (albeit that the ones I used to get were 'real' migraines triggered by lactose, duck eggs, msg, red food colouring, pecans, whatever the hell my body decided it hated that week...). So there's that! Yay! Today's food: reakfast: 2 poached eggs with The Good Spicy Kraut and a wedge of hot smoked salmon Lunch: Leftover roast pork with coleslaw made with a mayo, apple cider vinegar, dill, chilli and garlic dressing Dinner: Serrano ham wrapped chicken thighs stuffed with jullienned carrots and celery in a tomato and basil sauce, with grilled broccolini and a rocket, radish, spinach, cucumber and toasted pine nut salad with balsamic and oil

    Legoland in California

I interpret that as "Don't pack a picnic, but we aren't going to quibble with your bag of snacks". You're going to have kids with you, so you've got a licence to load up on bags of veggies, snack sticks, boiled eggs, RX bars etc PS - so jealous, I'm a massive Lego collector and would LOVE to go to Legoland!

Well, I went to lunch and had the smoked trout salad, no mayo, just with olive oil and lemon wedges - the chefs actually dressed it in lemon and oil for me and it was lovely! I had a sneaking suspicion there was butter on top of the fish from the look of it, BUT it didn't taste like it and didn't feel like it (I snuck a quick swipe of my finger across it). So I think I stayed compliant! Had sparkling water and ended with a long black coffee Now I need to think of something for dinner - I'm thinking pork chops
