  1. Hmmm, midday vertigo. Not crushing, but definitely present. I'm going to be really interested to see if glasses assist with this. EDIT: Just recalled that I did forget to take my beta-blockers this morning, which are supposed to prevent my migraines, maybe they're doing a better job than I thought...

    Whole 30 (July 2)

I hope your kitty is ok!! It's so hard with cats - dogs will let you help them but cats are all like "stay the F away from me or I'll take your face off!!!" I so, so hear you on the clothes, as mentioned in my thread. Pants are my issue too - I have wide hips, big butt, big thighs - I'm always bigger on the bottom! Plus I have that horrible hangy pouch thing that I can't even blame on having kids! I'm becoming a skirts and tights person lol You are doing SO well.
  3. Good Thursday morning! I'm so chipper in the mornings these days I make myself sick It's sooo cold this morning and we're in for a wild and woolly few days, apparently! Might take my dog up into the ranges on Sunday and introduce him to snow, if it sticks around. We have a friend over tonight for a catch up, and I always feed him dinner. He's on keto and really appreciates that what I cook usually fits really well! So I chucked a beef pot roast in the slow cooker this morning with carrots and onion and parsnips and potatoes, with a sauce of Whole 30 BBQ sauce, garlic, mustard, and tomato paste. I'll sautee up some asparagus and cabbage to go with. Meal 1: Egg bake per previous days with spicy kraut Meal 2: Sri Lankan beef and coconut curry with cauli rice (YAAAAY no more soggy slaw!) Meal 3: As above, beef pot roast and veg The fellas will be chat chat chat tonight, so I might use the pre-dinner time to get my chubby lazy butt out to the garage and do 15 minutes or more on the elliptical. We shall see.
  4. Oh my goodness. I love spicy food and interesting combinations. So to go with my pork chops, I peeled and chopped a red apple (I'd usually go green but wanted a little extra sweetness) and simmered it with a little water, a teaspoon of sambal olek, a dash of cinnamon and a dash of ground wild ginger. Simmered it down, mashed it so it was still a bit chunky and served it on my chops. OMG. It was soooooo good!!! I love spicy and sweet as a combo!
  5. @Emma I'm going to offer a variety of dipping sauces (coco aminos, hot chilli and vinegar for me!) but I'm hoping the broth is tasty enough too! I'm going to have ladles out so that people can make a noodle soup if they want, too. I will definitely report back with the recipe if it turns out as I hope!!

    UK availability

In Australia we're in the same boat and it's just trial, error and a LOT of label reading. I keep a list in my phone, but I also compulsively check labels, even if I've bought it before, because things change. I almost got tripped up on hot sauce because some (not all, some) Franks Hot Sauce contains wheat. Identical bottle and label, only difference is a notation in the ingredients. With coconut milk, I look for the ones with as few ingredients as possible, even if they're compliant. The coconut cream I buy is one of the more expensive ones, but it's 100% coconut and the coconut milk in that brand is 65% coconut and water.
  8. I got given 2 bar things that are pretty much RX bars, dates, cashews, egg whites, one has cocoa and sea salt and the other apple and cinnamon. Compliant ingredients, but in my view totally not in the spirit (I can say I've never had a big enough emergency to need one!) and they were sitting in my desk drawer lurking and mocking me. I just put them in the tea room as a "free to a good home". My single biggest issue with food is that I'm either "on" or I'm "off". No in between. I'm either strict 100% W30 or I'm hoing down a family sized bag on M&Ms. There's no in between and the smallest slip starts a spiral of food debauchery lasting days. Even the crippling illness it brings on isn't enough to put me off. I actually don't know if W30 is helping me with that, to be honest, because I take a great deal of comfort in the strictness of the program and that's not conducive to learning to eat freely but mindfully. I sometimes worry that it's actually making things worse mentally, but the physical effects are so good I'm willing to risk it. Compliant or not, that bar would have sent me on a sugar binge. I'm proud of myself for getting rid of them.

    Whole 30 (July 2)

I'm needing to get back on the exercise too, and have been tossing up starting the Couch25k program again - I did it with success previously! It's a similar thing, from the sounds of it. Good on you for getting up and doing it! I struggle so hard in the mornings for energy, I hate eating early but can't work out for the life of me unless I have something first.
  10. Good Wednesday morning! I have to say, getting up in the morning is so much easier. I am honestly feeling better by this day 10 than I have on day 10 of the previous rounds. Maybe because I have done them so close together, it takes less time to get back to that baseline? Whatever it is, I like it! I might even start looking at some exercise *gasp*. I'm such a slacker, I have an eliptical and a weights machine, as well as a boxing bag in the garage and I just don't even get out there. I need to aim for 15 minutes a day to start and just get to it. Meal 1: Egg bake with prosciutto, capsicum, mushrooms, spinach and nutritional yeast Meal 2: Tuna patties made with chipotle dukkah, topped with Peri Peri mayonnaise with chimmichurri mayo rainbow slaw (thank goodness today is the last day of pre-prepared slaw!!) Meal 3: Pork chops with apple and chilli relish, sauteed asparagus, brussel sprouts and broccoli in ghee and dukkah, and grilled sweet potato rounds. I tried on one of my goalpost dresses this morning and it fit! It's from Portmans, which is a funky younger womens clothing shop in Australia, and it has no stretch so it's a good baseline. When I fit that dress, I know I'm officially out of plus-size clothing! I'm really happy. I'm also fighting the urge to go clothes shopping, because a) I'm not done losing weight and b) I have a heap of cute clothing packed away in storage that I got too big for, so I need to 'shop' there first!! I don't know if I mentioned but I'm throwing a dinner party this weekend, it's an Asian Hot Pot. So basically there will be a big divided pot in the centre of the table with 2 types of broth, one a mild Asian style chicken, and the other a Spicy seafood style and everyone will be armed with chopsticks and a little net on a stick and can cook their own food by popping it in the broth! I'll make the broth from scratch so it's compliant (aaaaallll the pre-prepared have sugar and soy) Compliant options are: thinly sliced beef, pork and chicken, prawns, scallops, calamari, snapper, fish balls, bok choy, chinese broccoli, carrots, 3 types of mushroom Non-compliant options: Tofu, fish cakes, wontons, noodles I'll also start with Vietnamese spring rolls, which are non-compliant but they won't be served as a sit down starter so no one will notice me skip them Dessert will be seared pineapple with a cardamom and chili caramel and homemade coconut ice cream. I'm just going to have the ice cream, which is SWYPO but made with compliant ingredients. I'll be resisting the alcoholic beverages!

Starting July 16!! Successes and woes!

That's very similar to the recipe I used to make Italian sausage on the weekend! I left the sugar out: It was delicious!!
  12. I had some vertigo on and off today, but it's definitely lessening. I'm far less foggy, less tired and feeling generally better. Had my optometrist today and my eyes are in good shape, which is a relief. A few years ago I had a bout of optic neuritis, which is an inflammation of the optic nerve, and while it remitted, there was a chance of damage. Bad news is that I'm long sighted and my eyes are struggling with reading and computer work, so I'm getting glasses. I picked some really cute ones though - totally fought my urge to go the plain safe ones and got some funky ones instead! I'm changing my style now I'm back into 'normal' sized clothing. I've been dressing like someone far older than I am, and I'm sick of it!
  13. So replacement dinner was lamb patties with pinenuts, garlic, oregano and sumac with sauteed brussel sprouts, broccoli and asparagus in olive oil and Old Bay, and roasted purple sweet potato wedges. Lamb patties topped with tahini and lemon juice.
  14. DAMMIT just remembered I have the optometrist at lunch and can't get to the markets!! I so wanted salmon, too. UGH. Now I don't know what's for dinner and I'm annoyed.

Yikes!! That's a bit scary. I know that we're told to avoid canola unless not possible, but I don't think it's known to cause a reaction like that!

I find herbal teas really helpful when you're in that snaky for the sake of snacky phase. I have tons of different flavours!
  17. Thank you!! I love to cook, it really is my passion and I find it so helpful to stick to W30 when I make things interesting. My husband says that we eat better on round than off, so much for a restricted diet making things boring!!

Forget "breakfast food"! There is absolutely no logical reason for some things to be breakfast food and others not. It's a purely Western societal construct. In fact, cork flakes (from which all other breakfast cereal followed) were invented for a very... *ahem* interesting reason. Google it if you're up for a bit of an education, but don't do it in front of your boss. Eating whatever you want for meal 1 is so freeing! Make meatballs, or patties! Chop a medley of veggies (sweet potato, squash, peppers, mushroom, asparagus, onion, cauli, bross - anything that roasts well) toss it in oil and seasoning and bake it and top it with some sausage, or diced steak, or ground seasoned chicken or turkey, have some smoked salmon or salmon patties, make a delicious soup - once you get over the idea that breakfast needs to be *breakfast* and can be anything you want, the possibilities are endless.
  19. I'm even waking up feeling good!! Fish Tuesday! It's become quite the thing around our place. The fish markets close on Monday, so my theory is that Tuesday all the fish is at its freshest, so I wander down at lunch. Meal 1: Egg bake with prosciutto, capsicum, mushrooms, spinach and nutritional yeast Meal 2: Tuna patties made with chipotle dukkah, topped with Peri Peri mayonnaise with chimmichurri mayo rainbow slaw (note to self - you can't pre-prep slaw, it's gross. I'll eat it because I hate waste but from now on - dressing must be separate!!) Meal 3: Seared salmon steaks with lemon garlic dill ghee, seasoned sweet potato wedges, medley of sauteed veg with brussels, brocc, fennel, asparagus with a lemon mustard dressing. More fresh dill because mmm dill.
  20. Not enough fat with dinner, so I had a serve of stuffed olives before my pot of tea
  21. I tried on pants at H&M and they fit!!! They didn't look good, LOL but they fit!! One of my biggest desires, weight and health wise is to not have to ever shop in the plus sizes again. H&M is such a global brand, so to fit into their 16s (USA 12s) is amazing, especially when I tend to be very bottom heavy - I'm always 1-2 sizes bigger on the bottom half!

Why so little food for dinner? I'd be starving and so cranky, especially after your epic bike ride!
  23. Just an example of how much better I'm feeling - I had the urge to actually use my standing desk for the first time in months.

If you're genuinely hungry, have a mini meal! If you're just fatigue snacky (I get that way) can you have a cup of tea?

Aw, thank you!! I love to cook - honestly, if I could make a living out of it I would (without having to take instructions from a head chef lol). It makes W30 so much easier!!
