I decided to change my avatar tonight, in honor of Toby.  He's the toad who has spent so much time with me this summer.
One morning, I came outside to find Toby sitting backwards in the cab of the dump truck.
"Do you ever just feel all turned around?" was my immediate thought.  I shared it with my friend, and we had a good laugh.
But Toby had a plan.  He was working toward a goal.
You see ~ I had come outside on a previous morning to find him sitting on top of the cab of the dump truck.
And I came out on a later morning (after this avatar pic) to find him fully immersed in the water in the bed of the dump truck.  ...Ah... he'd made it.  And he has made it several times since.
This is the dogs' drinking water.  Yes, we use a plastic dump truck as our dogs' outside drinking bowl.  How did this happen?  Well, you see ~ life is busy, and when we got our first dog - there was the dump truck, right there by the outside spigot.  We filled it up with water for him to drink ... and it has been the dog bowl, for five years now.
    Five years.
I had friends here five years ago, who were part of my journey when we first brought Rocket into our family.  My sleep was disrupted for the first time in years.  I struggled with cravings, and increased caffeine consumption, and trying to figure out a new normal.
    That's life.  That's real.  ...And that's okay.
I was thinking tonight about how much has changed just since I started this journal.  I feel like a different person.
    That's because I am a different person.  That's life.  That's real.  ...And that's good.
We should always be moving forward.  We should always be working toward a goal.
We may look like Toby in my avatar sometimes - and that's okay, too.  Toby sat there and thought about it for awhile ... but he reached his destination.
I wish the same for each of you.

Well, you could look at it as good information resulting from systematically reintroducing different kinds of alcohol. . . .
Sorry about your regret, but if you glean something from it then all is not lost, right? And I am sooooooo with you on paleo sweets. Total food without brakes for me and a definite no-no in my world. It's almost better for me to eat the real thing and suffer for it later so I don't over do on a more permanent basis, if that makes any sense.
Love your resourcefulness with your faux junk food game night. Brill.

Nope, just the mustard, and I put salt and pepper on when I'm eating it. It's also good with shredded chicken instead of tuna (hubster doesn't like tinned tuna, so I frequently swap shredded chicken if he's going to be sharing).

So today was a MASSIVE fail. After the wine last night, and today being a lovely day and it being a weekend, I thought f'it, I'll try a different kind of alcohol. Got organic, no added sugar hard apple cider.
Wowee. I have the worst gastro. I feel like I'm being torn apart. I had leftover meatballs and a chicken wing from last night with some slaw for lunch, and then nibbled on some crackling this afternoon (I made bacon and cooked up the skin I trimmed), but no dinner because my innards are the pit of doom.
So lets go with - not just wine, but alcohol bad, hhm? Ugh.
Oh, I also had some date/cocoa/cashew/orange balls - basically a Lara Bar of a different brand. Delicious, and I'm glad I stopped and put them away, because I could polish them all off. This is where I've failed with paleo before - the paleo sweets are too close to real sweets.
So compliant food plus cider and a day filled with regret.

So dinner was like game night, hot wings, pork belly bites, meatballs, zucchini and sweet potato tots, and spicy slaw. I also had red wine, which I am REGRETTING A LOT RIGHT NOW. I even went to bed early, but my head is killing me, sour stomach, gastric distress, and UGH. Such a bad idea. I need to break up with wine.
Today's plan is coffee, coffee and more coffee, dog walk, groceries, more coffee, sewing, potentially torturing myself on the elliptical, cooking something and NO WINE.
Lunch is steak on the BBQ, leftover slaw and some leftover grilled fennel from the other night.

Honestly? This! W30 is the only thing that works, and I'm back on it as of today because nothing else works. I have an appointment with an immunologist to get allergy and intolerance tested but it's a while away and covid is messing with that, so W30 it is!

OK, lunch was actually a baby spinach, rocket, sauteed broccolini and beetroot kraut salad with mayo, 2 boiled eggs and bacon. Yum!
Edit to add - SERIOUSLY yum. This salad was such a great combo!

    FriYAY.
I've had SUCH an unmotivated week, work-wise. So, so unmotivated. One of my principals has next week off, so the unmotivation is guaranteed to continue.
I think we will have an Asian fusion buffet for special food this weekend. @LadyM inspired me with her Bahn Mi meatballs and other delights! I'll plan a menu
Today lunch will be similar to yesterday unless I get otherwise inspired, and dinner will be steak, baked sweet potato with ghee, broccolini, green beans, carrots. All just simple.

Your food prep sounds divine!! I might actually do an Asian banquet for us this weekend
You sound so centred and in tune with what your body needs, it's a great place to be.

You know what gets me through? In the 90s/early 00s, I was a little party animal/clubber and I now have a playlist of all the songs I used to go off at the club to  Reliving my youth!!

YES!! Music can be so motivating! I love that you have this to look forward to on the elliptical of all places. You're doing GREAT! Congrats on your fitness gains and for proving to yourself you can off road and then get back on the path when you desire. That's HUGE! And your previous post-W30 clothes fit? *slow.clap.*

Went for a walk along the river today with the doggo - I intended a long walk but it was cut very short when we saw not 1 but 2 highly venomous snakes. If it was me on my own, i'd keep going, but the darling doggo is just daft enough to try and make friends, so we went back to the car via the road. This has me rethinking our daily walks, because they've been in scrub up until now. Streets, parks and paths from here on out I think!
Also did 50 minutes on the elliptical. I SO did not want to. At all. But I did it.
Dinner is Snapper fillets and scallops, with a baby spinach, rocket, radish, cucumber salad with balsamic and EVOO. Had a couple of pieces of potato too.

    Day off!
I woke up at 7am, typical LOL, laid around for a bit then was just about to get up when Hubster came back to bed coz he needed a nap (5:30am meeting) and I was going to lie there with him for a minute and get up, but we ended up having a lovely snooze (yes, SNOOZE, you pervs!) and got up at 10am.
I'm planning on the big walk with the doggo, sewing, and fish for dinner.
I have anxiety today, did yesterday too - not sure if it is the day off or whether the weekend off track undid all my good work getting rid of anxiety, ugh.
Lunch will be leftover chicken with spicy green mango salad
Dinner will be seafood of some description, I'll see what's fresh and looks good!

Ended up with Italian herbs BBQ chicken thighs, BBQ fennel and eggplant with Kalamata tapanade, and duck fat roasted sweet potato.
I love my Weber so much.
Had to duck out and get some wine for hubster and thought really hard about some for me. Especially because I've taken tomorrow off work. But I really thought about it, and now I'd just wake up in the middle of the night with anxiety, and it would make me feel crappy tomorrow and waste my day off, so I didn't. And I'm glad I didn't.
Day off tomorrow, I'm going to go for a long walk in the sun, do some sewing, and relax.

I think the unceremonious ending of my W30 had a lot to do with the tension! It's a pretty fraught time and a lot of things bubbled over.
I'm actually really proud of just getting back on it yesterday, in recent years I seem to have been losing the ability to moderate, I'm either ON or I'm so, so OFF and going OFF has led to multi-week binges, but this weekend was a "huh, that was a blip, the wine was nice, the pizza was nice, the chocolate was decidedly average, and now I'm back at normal". Let's hope I can hang on to that.
Managed my walk and 45 on the elliptical yesterday, so no excuses there either.
    Today's food:
Meal 1: Leftover roast pork and roasted cauli, brocc, fennel, carrot and parsnip with spicy apple sauce
Meal 2: BBQ chicken thighs with fennel slaw and BBQ sweet potato rounds. I'm going to get inventive with the rub for the chicken.

Day 10 (Day 1 of The Hardest Days) ...
I am fortunate to say this has not been one of The Hardest Days and I am super grateful for that! I think part of that is due to having two adorable little rescue pups keeping me too busy to overthink this and also for my friends who are letting me coach them and for you nice people I interact regularly with here. A support group is huge!
Breakfast - 4 eggs, zucchini and acorn squash, plus coffee with coconut oil. I've been using less coconut oil in my coffee so I added a few almonds.

I had half a bottle of kombucha during a meeting.

Lunch - chicken wings, plantains fried in coconut oil, baby cucumbers and cashew sauce.
I finished breakfast in just under an hour. I'm going to keep aiming for 30 minutes. Lunch went down a little easier, and I think the primary reason is that I wanted to hurry up and get those finger foods down so I didn't have to keep washing my hands before I touched the computer.
Insights: I haven't done a great job of drinking my water today.

That's always a big red flag for me, too. Even compliant snacking is a slippery slop because I know I'm not hungry, I'm just doing it because I'm bored or cranky.

I'm the same with sitting down to meals, I get bored. I thoroughly enjoy and appreciate my meals, but I don't want to sit there and lovingly gaze at them while I eat them!
    That sauce does sound fun!!

    Day 5
I've rescued one dog before, but two is no joke! These little blessings kept me running crazy today. Now, to be fair, we had to go to the pet store and exchange their leashes because the ones we got - they just weren't having it. My boys also came over for dinner and our other dog, Stitch, came with him. I'm sure that between that and being in a new home for only 24 hours was just a lot. I don't blame them for being a bit cranky. I'm feeling it myself. Hopefully tomorrow we can all just chillllll....

I had a really hard time eating today. I would start off hungry and a few bites in feel stuffed. I did what you are supposed to do, stuck to the template and ate as much as I was able. I even set my food off to the side so I could continue eating when the urge struck. As soon as I had breakfast and lunch sitting there together I conceded and put it all away.
Breakfast - leftover apple pork frittata
Lunch - beef & broccoli with mushrooms
Dinner - cod, caesar salad and mashed potatoes

I'm having a cup of chamomile tea before bed and I had half a bottle of kombucha with dinner.
I've also been using Day by Day this time around. I don't think it was written when I did my W30s in the past. It's really pretty cool, even if you already know the program and what to expect pretty well. I'm starting to enjoy the bedtime routine of writing in it, reflecting on the day. I've tried to get in the habit of journaling in the past and it never sticks. If I can stick with Day by Day for 30 days I'll be feeling pretty good.
I've also been listening to Melissa's podcast - Do The Thing. I really liked her recent episode about morning routines and how they can be hugely beneficial. I'm going to start working on a morning routine of my own - just something to consistently start the day off on a positive note.
NSV: I had absolutely zero cravings today
NSV#2: I followed the rules and ate as much as I could on schedule even when I didn't feel hungry
NSV#3: I did all the dishes after dinner even though I was tired and I really, really didn't want to.
Insights: Nothing significant today. I didn't get much sleep last night because of the pups so I'm getting to bed earlier tonight, hoping they sleep a little better, too.
Here's a picture of the mellower of the two. The other one doesn't sit still long enough for a photo. I swear to gawd she's part squirrel.
