Oh my gosh, so I play this game called Ramsay Dash (a Gordon Ramsay version of Diner Dash). One of the restaurants is called Black Stump BBQ and it uses crocodile, wattleseed, kangaroo, bush tomatoes, emu and lemon myrtle. I wasn't sure this was real - it's so cool to hear you cooking with all of this!

Lunch is tuna, pickle, egg and mayo salad in cucumber boats.

Sunday and fancy food day. My menu today is going to freak some people out, but I like to pick a cuisine or country and go with it, and I realised I have not done my own.
    So:
Wattleseed, pepperberry and macadamia nut kangaroo meatballs with bush tomato sauce
    Lemon myrtle emu fillet
    Lime & Ginger crocodile skewers
Warm roasted beetroot and baby spinach
Shredded spicy green mango and coconut salad

Truth! I hate weighing and measuring - it's the bane of my existence  Okay, that may be a little dramatic, but still.. Bottom line is yeah, it's YOUR food freedom, so however you decided to do it so it will help you is the right way.

That's actually a really good idea - I'd need to work out a system that I didn't have to weigh or measure the non-compliant foods, because weighing and measuring leads me down a no-fun path, but I bet I could - thanks for the tip!

Lunch was leftover brisket and cauli tabboueh.
Dinner is lamb backstraps, whole roasted baby cauliflower in a mustard and caper sauce, roasted brocc and carrots

Prep Day 4 - Friday - Starting on Sunday (This log is not compliant)
It's awesome how quickly the rules and routines around W30 come back, even though it's been a few years.
I deliberately planned to start my W30 AFTER this weekend because I knew I would be helping my son move. I figured I wouldn't have as much control today over my food choices, and I wanted to be kind to myself and get the move over before I had to be on plan 100%. As it turned out, today wasn't nearly as challenging as I thought it was going to be.
Breakfast - eggs, fried plantains, fried zucchini. I was just scrolling through the post about how many eggs are in a serving last night and remembered that 4 is a serving for me. I made 4 and that was more than satisfying along with the veggies. I think I am actually okay on 3, even though I can hold 4 comfortably in my hands. I have big hands for a chick.
We started getting all up in moving mode right around lunchtime. I wasn't super hungry yet but knew I would be. I hadn't planned lunch for today because I didn't think I would be home, so I reached for some leftover Mod pizza in the fridge. I only ate 1 1/2 slices and started not feeling so great so I threw the rest out (that's a NSV for me for sure!). I took a RX Bar along on the second trip and that was enough to hold me over until I got home from the move.
Making dinner of spaghetti squash, chicken apple sausage and marinara sauce (I am hoping against hope that I still have the compliant brand from TJ's in the fridge!).
Insights: I really could have stuck to W30 today if I had planned ahead. Planning ahead is CRITICAL!
NSV: I threw away the rest of the pizza. It's not really going to help me anymore, is it?! I also made muffins for my son this morning to take to his new apartment. I did not eat any muffins. I also did not lick the beaters or the bowl or the spatula.
WOD: Technically I'm counting today as a rest day, though it was anything but. I got over 5,000 steps and a good chunk of them were up and down stairs.
Also ... I'm super excited ... I JUST GOT MY NEW BOOKS! I've read It Starts With Food several times. Now I got the Whole30 and Day by Day. I can't wait to peruse them.

Reading this i just had a crazy thought... I don't know if you're familiar with weight watchers, but they use a point system. Zero point foods are unlimited, and other foods get points based on their nutritional values (or lack thereof). What if, for your food freedom reintro, you did something similar? Compliant foods are zero points and then assign non compliant foods a point value, then allow yourself so many points per day or week. I know this technically goes against the idea of food freedom, but I wonder if it might help the all or nothing mindset (trust me, I relate to it!!). There is something freeing about knowing you can fit the "bad" foods in sometimes and not completely go off the rails. Just an idea.

Hi Tyler! Welcome  Good luck on your W30. You've picked a great time - lots of people are on-board for the September W30!
    My biggest tips are:
Read the ingredients before you eat it. Read them even if you can't imagine them having something non-compliant. Read them even if you've bought that product before. Read them even if your best friend told you its compliant. Read them even if you read them when you bought it and it's been sitting in the cupboard. Even read them if there is a Whole30 logo on the bottle - mistakes have been made. It is far better to read everything over and over, than face a restart because you didn't!  Keep a food/feelings journal - the section on this forum is great for it. I have done 6 rounds (I have some pretty wacky intolerances I'm working out) and being able to go back and see what I ate and how I felt on various days (both emotionally and physically) is so so helpful, and can really get you through a slump if you think nothing's happening. Stalk other people's W30 logs! There's inspiration, answers and great solidarity Get as creative as you want to be, BUT don't feel like you HAVE to! Simple gets the job done too!  Don't get overwhelmed by the substitute products or feel you need to spend a fortune to prep up. At it's heart, W30 is whole foods. The compliant products are window dressing, and you can use them as much or as little as you want. If you're a FB user - find and join a few W30 groups - there are great ones out there and they're a fantastic resource for support and answers (and you generally get answers/interaction pretty quick).  Good luck! And enjoy yourself!

Thank you both @ShadowInTheKitchen and @MadyVanilla, it helps to know that I'm not just screaming into the void!!
Finally Friday, for a whole lot of nothing, this week sure has been a doozy.
I'm very physically weary today, floppy muscles. I only did my typical 45 mins on the elliptical yesterday but it really did seem like hard work. Hopefully I'll pep up a bit.
Fish Friday today, I'm thinking maybe some battered whiting tails, or maybe just my standard snapper. Hubster wants the cauliflower tabbouleh (GASP!!!!) so whatever we have will have that on the side.
Lunch I have a bunch of leftover roasted veggies from last night, so I think I'll have that with a couple of poached eggs and either a hollandaise or kimchi dressing.

Thank you, I feel all full of early autumnal, crisp early morning air enthusiasm.  I am not sure if that is a thing, but I feel it anyway.  I have just signed up for 30 days of 15 mins a day of Pilates too.  So lots of menu planning and getting ready this weekend.  I am excited to feel well again.  I intend to make sure I go into next year healthy and happy.  Looking forward to chatting with you all again. x

I've decided I'm staying off the scale long term. It only messes with my head. Of course, I've also decided many times in the past to stay W30, to ditch the scale, to keep exercising daily, all of which I've failed on, but hey - never stop trying, right? LOL.
Great to see pain at a 0!! Stay safe in that stormy weather!

Go you working out when you didn't want to - that's me to the ground. I'm currently resorting to mentally yelling at myself "what are you going to do if you don't? sit on your ass and browse Reddit for an hour before dinner?" then I get my butt out there and do it, resenting it the whole time LOL.
Easing in is a great idea. I definitely have to keep treats out of the house too - luckily my husband and I have very different taste in treats (he's T1 and had chocolate and cookies with sugar substitutes, and I can't stand fake sugar taste), so as long as I keep my chosen treats away, I can ignore his!
I look forward to following your round!

Another late day post...those of you that work such long hours, how do you even manage to eat one healthy meal, let alone several and get in exercise????
    Day 10
    Mood-8, Energy-6, Pain-0
It's been a good day, so much accomplished, and I solved a problem for 4 people who were all very grateful.  I was able to shower, dress, and get breakfast at an appropriate time this morning, but then the day took off.
Lunch...I was again just wanting to grab something.  I'm struggling a little more with the cravings this time around, I'm not sure what that's about, maybe just being busy, working in front of the computer without break.  This might be habit kicking up - while I've been working at home since March, my workload has not been typical until just the last two weeks.  I'm used to having something ready to eat (lunch box or picked up meal) and not stopping to prepare.  I'll keep that in mind for the next work days.
As I was debating about what to do for lunch, I decided to weigh myself (big no, I know!!!).  I thought, if I've lost weight, I'm not going to sabotage myself.  If I've gained, I'm just going to eat what I can find.  This is so against the spirit of W30 I'm ashamed to post it, but that's where I was - these are the thoughts and habits I need to change if I'm going to succeed long term.  Well, the scale gods were with me and I had lost a few pounds (probably all water weight....)  I ordered a Chipotle lifestyle bowl to be delivered.  So why didn't I just do that without going through all the mental gymnastics to end up on the scale?
I'm thankful for what I can accomplish right now - staying compliant with meals, keeping up with my yoga, journaling.  I'm at 1.2K steps for today, and we have severe storm/tornado watches this evening, so no walk.  I started the morning with walking around the house when my Fitbit buzzed at 10 of the hour, but that didn't last through the day.  I just looked at yesterday's post - I have fewer steps today despite being a little more deliberate this morning, ugh.  I'm adjusting, I just wasn't prepared for such an overwhelming return to work normal (albeit still at home).
Dinner-Kahlua pig going in the Instant Pot - I'll do a yoga session while it cooks.  Probably have a salad and some pineapple with it.

    Me, too.
Quarantine...I remember reading something that said the way we are impacted by it is similar to how we live on our incomes.  There are lots of people who make less money (have less resources during pandemic), but most people still live at the top of their means (are near their "wits-end" during the pandemic).  Our own reality is so vastly different than what it has every been that to expect ourselves to grin and bear it and accept our lot as just the way things are without any grieving  would be the same as expecting ourselves to carry on as normal in the face of financial devastation.  IDK, that still smacks of privilege.  But it makes sense to give ourselves grace, because we've all experienced significant changes that we aren't practiced in dealing with.  This seems so totally unhelpful now that I've written it out.  Quarantine/pandemic-era living is just plain hard.

I know this feeling too.  @MadyVanilla had a good suggestion for a way to deal with the depression etc.  Try to talk to someone outside of your house at least once a day.
Have an open mind and look for meaningful conversation with everyone you meet.  Neighbours were the best answer for me.  I walk often with my dog, but also bring along dog treats for other people's dogs, which helped to meet a few new people in my neighbourhood and then led to conversation.  You will often be standing on opposite sides of the street to talk, keeping social distancing guidelines but it's real in-person contact with other people.  I believe that by making a conscious effort daily to get perspective from others brought me back from the brink.  Ok that's being dramatic, but it did help me. A lot.
With the nice weather coming it will be easier to enjoy time outside, even if it's only 2 hours a day.  Hang in there.

    Day 16, Tuesday September 1, 2020
Over half way!  I've been remaining compliant but today is a difficult day.  My sleep wasn't great last night, that's probably it. I'm feeling lots of cravings for anything sweet.  I have been eating so much today, morning snacks (fruit, nuts, raisins & dates), and afternoon snacks (more fruit & nuts, plus some apple cider) in addition to my big meals.  I'm feeling a bit hungrier than usual because of all the walking I'm doing, averaging over 17,000 steps for the past week, but I'm definitely eating more than I need to.  It's just a blah feeling I have, and an old habit, to eat.  I'm also feeling the drag of needing to be in the kitchen so much.  What to cook?  If it were only me it would be easy.  Maybe I'll order pizza in or cook something from a box for the family tonight, and make myself something compliant, or eat my leftover spaghetti squash with meat and marinara sauce tonight.  Whatever happens, I plan to stick with the plan.  I'm coveting full time Tiger Blood...
