What have I learned/gained/lost: Dexa scan - lost about 5lbs, and some shifting of bodyfat to lean. Lost 2% of body fat (4lbs, from 34% to 32%) gained 4lbs trunk lean mass (yay Yoga!). Lost 0.5lb belly fat and 1lb hip fat. Measured on 12/18 and 1/31.  That I can go 30 days without beer or any alcohol (or any substitutions like pot-reminder that it is legal here in CO) and a) it won't kill me, it's not *that* hard, c) I do miss it, but not at the level I was consuming.   That I am mostly a fat-burner, meaning I don't get too hungry if I don't eat for several hours past normal time. Yay!  I think my BP went down as well.  I wasn't taking regular measurements but in general, my diastolic was kinda borderline high from time to time.  But the last few times I've measured, it was consistently <80 which is good.  That I will plan on doing this every January as a reset for everything.  It's good discipline. 47 year old healthy female who enjoys eating out, a lot. Was eating mostly paleo for the past year or two anyway (aside from the beer- I am a certified judge/beer geek) so nothing earth-shattering about my results, but that's ok.  I've attempted W30 twice before but got derailed during business travel. However, this time, it was "convenient" that I got laid off at end of Dec, so it was easier to focus more on shopping and cooking/eating at home.  Cheaper, too!

Re-intro will pretty much only be fermented items, beer and cheese/yogurt/keffir.   Not at the same time!

Congrats to all and see you on the other thread-Dawn

Wow. Great success mumontherun. I am so happy and greatful of all the people on this forum. Thank you.
    I am a 48 yr. old, 5'5" ,female.
    January
    Weight 207
    Bust 45
    Waist 39 3/4
    Hips 42 3/4
    Widest part of hips 45
    Neck 15 3/4
I also measured my knees, arms, and thighs.
    February
    Weight 192.5 (-14.5 lbs)
    Bust 44.5 (-1/2")
    Waist 38 1/4 (-1/2")
    Hips 42 (-3/4")
    Widest part of hips 43 1/2 (-2 1/2")
    Neck 14 5/8 (-1 1/8")
So grand total with knees, arms and thighs is - -6 5/8" gone. Never to be seen again!
I have been on this weight loss journey since June 2014 and weighed in at 247.5. There was a couple events that finally woke me up of how fat I was becoming. I am on this weight loss journey for me, so I can be healthy, I can be happy, so I can fit into those dam airplane, theater and movie seats. I am just so tired of all the baggage that comes with excessive weight. I want to be able to move again.
I am so glad to have had the opportunity to do the Whole30 challenge. It opened the door to a civil conversation about food around our dinner table and at the grocery store, those beautiful teachable moments. I am teaching my kids by quietly choosing the right foods and their noticing the results. Mom has more energy, mom is happier, mom is easier to talk to, mom is laughing, mom is sewing again. Thank you for that Whole30.
I will be continuing on with the Whole 30 program through February.

    Hi Everyone!!!

So I did the Whole30 in full this time (3rd time lucky for me - 1st =18 days, 2nd = 10 days) and I am so glad that I stuck with it. I wanted to beat my emotional eating, my excessive drinking and just give my body a much needed re-set! I'm so proud that I stuck with it this time and even when I was having a bad day I didn't turn to alcohol or carbs to stuff down my feelings. I've run the gauntlet of every emotion throughout this month, from joy to boredom to anger....and everything in-between....and I've just felt the emotions and dealt with them. It's made me much stronger and it's helped me to deal with my anxiety and depression. I am in control for the first time in years.

The physical effects have been fabulous too - I have more energy in the day, my exercise sessions have got better, I sleep much better at night and my skin, hair & nails are visibly healthier. I've also lost weight and toned up which is another reason I wanted to do this. It's been an amazing kickstart to 2015 for me.

    Hi, everyone.

I can't believe that it's day 28 already.  I'm still feeling great, and I'm planning to get through the Super Bowl with compliant snacks (guac and veggies, maybe chicken wings, meatballs, stuffed mushrooms, etc.).

I am definitely craving a glass of red wine (my little treat when I'm cooking), but I can get past that.  My only fear as I move forward beyond 30 (I've done several Whole 30s before, but never more than that) is that I'll go completely insane with a giant bowl of pasta or ice cream on day 101.  My hope is that by then it just won't seem that appealing anymore.  Even now, just thinking about how I would feel after that kind of binge is making me a bit queasy.

I am going to have a body composition analysis at my gym on day 30, day 60 and day 100.  Hope that's "compliant."  I didn't do one before I started because I was afraid I'd get depressed.

    Rock on, 100s!

    Happy two-thirds everyone!  (I'm at one-fifth, as I'm determined to do a Whole100)

New breakfast bake recipe (this one rocks):
-grease glass baking dish with coconut oil
-sautee kale and onion in coconut oil (touch of salt & pepper), add to baking dish
-crumble 6 slices of compliant bacon and sprinkle on top of veggies in baking dish
-beat 6 eggs and pour over veggies & bacon
-cover with alum foil and bake at 350 for about 40 min
    - I cut it into four sections, and bring one for breakfast each day  YUM!!!

Super easy Mexican chicken recipe for slow cooker:
-chicken parts (I use boneless breasts)
-compliant salsa (homemade would be great, but I found an organic one that's very good)
-cook for 6 hrs on slow, chicken will be moist and easy to shred
This time, I added some fresh garlic, cilantro and cumin.  Even my kids loved it!

I have been over-munching on nuts this past weekend (I'll blame it on too much time in front of the TV watching football).  Must get that under control, as everything else is going well.

Off on business trip #2 of the W30 tomorrow (one more next week), and I've already checked the menu at the restaurant where my business dinner will be.  I will have to ask for some accomodation (please don't put any sauce on my steak or veggies!), but I'm ready for it.

    Today:

M1:  Breakfast bake, plus one apple, coffee with almond milk
M2:  Baked chicken thighs, avocado, raw cucumbers/carrots/red peppers, hard boiled egg
    M3:  Mexican chicken, spaghetti squash

    Have a great day!

Hi everyone - looking to join another fun group as I completed my Whole30 on January 24 and decided to stay on for a first Whole60. I have a business trip for a week in the middle of March, and completing 30 days at a time seems more manageable. I love that everyone is committing right away to 100 days! My first whole30 was January 2013 and I did much much better this time around. I'm looking forward to seeing what the next month will bring and looking forward to everyone's support and adventures!

    Hi, all!

I've been incommunicado - super busy at work, single mom with 2 kids.  I started my (4th or 5th?) Whole30 on 1/1 and it's been AWESOME.  My energy is incredible (fyi, I'm 54), my mood is VASTLY improved, and I'm not craving anything.  My red wine craving from last week passed (thank goodness).  I am seriously thinking about a Whole100 - anybody interested???

Interestingly, I was really hungry yesterday, so I ate more, but today I'm not very hungry at all.  Food today:

M1:  2 hard boiled eggs, carrots, cucumber, coffee with almond milk, herbal tea (decaf), half of a honey crisp apple (yum)
M2:  Mixed greens, grilled shrimp, hard boiled egg, tea, almonds

Dinner out tonight with friends.  I'm planning on either grilled fish, steak or chicken with veggie side.    FYI, one of the best things I've done for most of the last 16 days was bake breakfast casseroles on Sundays for Mon-Fri grab and go breakfasts (I take them to the office so I can eat at 8:30 or 9am).  Best experiment so far - shredded sweet potato as "crust" for egg/sausage/onion/spinach mixture.

Hi! I'm in prep mode for my 4th Whole 30.  I haven't done one since last January, and I'm SO ready.  I am usually a pretty healthy eater (Whole 30 changed my life), but recently have spun out of control.  Funny (not really) how eating bad stuff makes you feel bad, but makes you want to eat more bad stuff.  My body is screaming for clean eating.

For the newbies, I can assure you that the way you will feel will be more than enough payoff for the effort it takes to complete the 30 days.  I am a 3 time cancer survivor, and was in agony from the side effects of an oral chemotherapy agent that I have to take every day.  The Whole 30 eliminated my joint pain and stiffness, increased my energy level and generally made me feel GREAT.  Not just better, but GREAT.  I don't usually weigh myself (it's an addictive behavior for me), but I know I shrink during the Whole30.  The bloat disappears almost immediately.
Good luck on this journey!  I'll be here to give and get support.
