    Hello everyone! Sorry for the silence! I tend to not check my emails over the weekend. I have a desk job, so I'll skim emails over the weekend for anything pressing or life altering, but other than that, I try to stay away from computers. (Also, my work email is connected to my phone, so if I avoid my personal email, I also avoid my work's kind of a win! haha) I use Nutpods in my coffee and it's at least getting me through. My friend got to try the pumpkin spice flavor just before the officially released it (as a brand ambassador) and she LOVED it. She said it wasn't as sweet as the French Vanilla one (which I don't think is sweet anyway), but has more of a spicy bite to it. Another compliant creamer I found this weekend is Califia Farms Better Half. It's Coconut based and I think adds a bit richer of a flavor to my coffee than Nutpods does. @NoneOtherThanAmy and @ShellyM, thanks for the well wishes! I was feeling way better Friday and into the weekend. I KILLED a workout on Friday night that left me so excited. And then woke up today with a headache and my muscles ache like I have the it possible for the carb flu to swing back around for another hit? I felt like I was doing way better with my diet, adding in more carbs, etc. But I feel absolutely miserable today and slept so poorly last night. I even had dreams about accidentally eating non-compliant food last night! Day 8 for me and I just want to crawl back into bed and sleep forever.

    @Ali_in_WI yay! Another Alison spelled the right way! (I also go by Ali!) The carb flu hit me HARD the last few days! Days 3 and 4 saw headaches, body aches, fatigue, and very little appetite. For someone that suffers from migraines on the regular, it was a couple of brutal days! Even my Rx meds couldn't touch this headache that exploded into a migraine! It was so rough! Plus ALL THE CRAVINGS! UGGGGH I just want some cheese and cookies! So, I redownloaded myfitnesspal to track my macronutrients and realized that (obviously) I haven't even been getting half my recommended daily carb intake, so I stayed home from work yesterday and rested and researched how to get more carbs into my diet. Enter my NEW FAVORITE SNACK: Banana, almond butter, coconut shavings! YUMMM-O! Today, I woke up, only hit my snooze button twice (that's an improvement!), and got up feeling pretty good! I had enough time to walk down the street and grab a coffee before getting ready for work! I like to think my good feeling today is a small spark/teaser of what tiger blood will feel like further down the road!

    Thanks @NoneOtherThanAmy; I love summer, but I am SOOO ready for fall! All this heat is getting to me! Luckily today the temps are only in the 80s and the smoke coverage all over the city is keeping the strength of the sun at bay a bit! Stay safe down there in Florida, @stacie66! That hurricane sounds like bad news and Florida and the Caribbean are in my thoughts! Welcome @libchick! Smart move on cleaning out cupboards and drawers! We've got this!

    Thank you Meghan! I love this: "Nothing tastes as good as healthy feels"! That is something I need to keep in mind. I know this will probably help me lose a touch of weight, but what we are all really looking for with this change is improved health! Great reminder! Thank you! And WOW! This thread has really exploded! Yay! I'm so glad we could all find each other! I have been VERY absent for awhile with the long weekend/my birthday weekend! I was really living up my last few days before diving into this! I am currently on Day 2 and have definitely had my ups and downs already....Stayed on point all day yesterday and even got a workout in! Today is a different story though. (Long story ahead...fair warning) I sleep with my windows open as I do not have air conditioning and Mother Nature thinks it's a great idea to make Oregon damn near 100 the last few days! This has been our weather all summer! Hot, dry, the last rain we had was back in June and that was barely a trace...before that it was well over 50 days of no rain. With wildfires burning all over central/south Oregon and California, we need rain and temps NOT in the 90s and 100s. Well..sadly over the weekend, a few teenagers thought it would be funny to purposefully drop smoke bombs and burning fire crackers into a beautiful hiking gorge (Eagle Creek, in the Columbia River Gorge just east of Portland). Within a matter of a couple of days the fire has raged out of control over 10,000+ acres, covered Portland in a thick layer of very unhealthy smoke, and is raining down ash all over us. I woke up with a sore throat and ash all over my bed. But I would say I'm lucky compared to the hundreds of families displaced by this fire. My heart breaks for those people and for the loss of such an amazing natural space. If you take anything away from this, it is to please pray for/send positive thoughts of rain to Oregon. Our firefighters and emergency response teams need the help! Needless to say, I wanted to stress eat a bit today. But I haven't! Even when I got to work and had to place an order for catering pastries, cookies, and brownies to the office in a few weeks (none of which I'll be able to eat) I still reached for my carrot sticks to munch on while I finished the order. I also found a compliant salad dressing at Fred Meyer today, so my strawberry/sweet potato/grilled chicken/spinach salad was IRRESISTIBLE! Anyone looking for inspiration on their recipes? Check out my girl, Tiff! She's done the Whole30 twice before and is currently doing it now. AND OH YEA! She's a food blogger that makes and shares AMAZING recipes! She has a few posts specifically Whole30 compliant, but she also shares a lot of other healthy, sweet, savory, not so compliant recipes (for when you start reintroducing!)! She's all about balance and finding your happiness! Okay! I think I've rambled on for quite long enough now! I'll try to be better about posting more updates for myself, and also for my boyfriend, who's doing this with me! (He's already experiencing sluggish feelings and a headache today... ) but we both know this will help us so much more in the end! Here's looking ahead at the next 28.5 days (and shorter for most of you that started on the 1st!) Cheers! Alison

    I just finished my first Hood to Coast this weekend! I thought I'd be tired and sore yesterday (Sunday)...but man, this whole Monday business is kicking my butt! The swelling started late last night and I struggled getting out of bed this morning! Lots of water and stretching for me today! Congrats on your race!

    Yay for getting out there and signing up for races! The fact that the first race I signed up for would sweep people going slower than a certain pace kept me motivated to keep training! Good luck on your races!

    Hey everyone! On the cusp of my 30th birthday, suffering from migraines and asthma, my boyfriend and I have decided to tackle the Whole30 together! We were originally going to do it in November, and after double checking calendars and training schedules (we are both runners with numerous race events we've already paid for, so we didn't want to struggle and feel we had wasted our money), we decided to move our start date up, to September 4th! Little did we know, there'd be a big movement to have as many people as possible participating in the month of September! This will be coming days after our second overnight relay in the month of August (CLR and Hood to Coast), AND my 30th birthday! What better way to start off a new decade than with improving my health?! I am committing to this challenge in hopes of getting my nutrition on point as a runner, to rewire my brain about food and cravings, and to hopefully discover trigger foods for my migraines and asthma! I will be chronicling this journey for us via Instagram - @rundrinknerd - feel free to follow along! We look forward to getting inspired by all of you, sharing our journey, and hopefully inspiring others to take the challenge! Cheers! Alison
