    Wow, your recipe is different! So much more sugar. Basically it's 0,8 gallon and 1 1/2 cups of sugar. More tea as well. Interesting.

    Ok, so Hannah at KombuchaKamp reckons 4-6 teabags per gallon of water ...  Bump it up to 18 teabags?  Holy moly 
     
    I have extra-strength teabags chez moi ...  I reckon 12 might be a good starting point.  Argh, so excited to see what happens.  If it's true, tea sales will go up everywhere!  (Well, we're all situated anyway).
     
    Ha, I'll try and tempt him.  I know where he'll be.  Hovering behind my shoulder pulling faces and making "ew" noises.  He;ll have a lovely time just doing that!

    Susan. I was doing tablespoons. OMG. Fizz secret revealed?
    I do same method as Michele. Brew it and let sit overnight. Any way works as long as there sweet tea there. Touch scoby with clean hands and you are good.
    Oh no, needy goat. That doesn't sound like fun. Who would have thought that they are like that?!

    Ok, scoby show off as promised. Someday they will be ballerinas like Michele's. Left one doesn't fit in the cookie jar anymore.

    Ok, so if we are sharing....picked up this lovely jar tonight, now to be patient and wait a week so my batches can be properly staggered (oolong batch started yesterday, cherry/ginger and strawberry/lime on second ferment). Cat for scale.

    Lol..glad you did not pass away from catlessness. Kind of reminds me of when my daughter told me that if I didn't let her have a bowl of sugar for breakfast, she would die. I am happy to report she is still with us.
    SCOBY looks happy. Bumps and brown colors are from gasses and tannins from the tea.

    I know Nadia..I cant stop. I am restraining myself right now. Just took Olivia for a quick walk and thought..would it be fun to show them the baseball fields, park and my car? Lawdy.
    The skirt is the heat strip. It was in the 40s here. Now 50s with splashes of 80s. It's Oregon. :0)

    Just thought I'd share a pic of my 2 1/2 gallon SCOBY and brew, Denver, started by a dear friend and jazz musician several years ago from a bottle of GT's. He passed it along to me when he moved to Denver to pursue his music. I have passed out many babies from this one.
    To make 2 1/2 gallons I use 15 bags of organic oolong tea, 2 1/2 cups organic sugar. I bottle in Grolsh bottles, usually unflavored, but leave it out for a day or two to get fizzy before storing in the fridge. I always brew my sweet tea the night before I bottle so as soon as I bottle I can dump in room temp tea and start it fermenting right away.

    She's all set up
    I have it at the end of the sofa to keep it out of light...and on top of my dumbell box so I can fit my jug under the tap.

    I used organic green tea & organic sugar => organic kombucha
    I was thinking, would baby food fruit purees be an easy way to flavour it?
    Something like these would be very easy to squirt in to the bottle.

    Dad has called and said his batch is ready. I said that I told him to test it after 5 days, not bottle it. He said nope, I love it like this. I thought that the vessel is in some powerd spot over there and told him to drink up Mary! Susan! Thank you so much, he has something to be excited about and something to play with during his "home arrest". He was so cute yelling "Nadia, it's ready! The blob has eaten the sugar! It's growing too. Do I bottle first or make new tea? Is it wrong that I like it plain? I want it plain! And yes, Mom said we need to add sugar to it to taste good. I said that she can't have sugar, right?! I mean if she doesn't like it more for me! Anyway, I don't see a baby you were talking about. Maybe we have a male scoby!!!" Shedding a tear.
    Flavors update.
    Cantaloupe. Don't waste kombucha, doesn't translate well at all.
    Cherry. Always good. Cherry vanilla is the bomb. Cherry basil is awesome too.
    Pear. Superstar. Pear vanilla and pear ginger - both are fantastic. Pear strawberry is lame. I am surprised.
    Cranberry - good good.
    Carrot - needs more experimenting. Carrot ginger blew me away.
    Cardamon. Weird but I love cardamon. Will be perfect Christmas drink. What's gonna happen if you heat booch? I assume all the good stuff will be destroyed?

    Reporting on my two babies. Solid white and getting thicker by the minute. The one with the .5% alcohol content is more robust looking. I should have written the date I started them. I think the heat strip helps.

    Oh dear. Don't feel picked on. I measure in cups as well (though metric is more appealing to the part of my brain that wants my computer structure to be perfect and all my spices exactly alphabetized). Jacques Pepin uses cups in his cook books. Maybe not at home. Whatever.
