Good for you!  That sounds like my weekend coming up.  Going to my nieces wedding!  We are staying with friends so I will have access to her kitchen.  I'm planning on making extra food this week so I can take some prepared meals but I know we will be eating out some too.  When I started Whole30 on the 2nd, I thought I might just do a Whole27 so that I didn't have to be restricted at the wedding.  But now that it's close and I have the hang of the program, I am thinking if at all possible with the meal at the wedding I will be compliant!

Hello all!  HUGE NSV for me last week... I made it through a week in the land of CHEESE CURDS, spent 15 hours in various airports on the 15th, lived in a hotel room for 4 days and, because I was prepared, I was able to stay 100% compliant and I feel FANTASTIC!!
Happy day 21, everyone!  Keep up the great work!

Back from weekend with the gals and I did great!  I answered a bazillion questions cheerfully and no one tried to pressure me into drinking the wine - and I didn't feel like I was missing out for a second.  I stuck to tea and my protein salad, roasted butternut squash & other stuff I can't recall.  [I guess the brain fog hasn't quite lifted.   ]
Hey all - didn't it feel great to wake up to day 20?  HOME STRETCH!   I hope everyone has a great week!

I have struggled with anxiety all my life and I really notice a difference with that! I don't feel nearly as anxious about things in my everyday life. it's still there, and it always will be unfortunately, but it's not nearly as bad as it was before starting this, and I've had zero anxiety attacks, so for me that's a huge success! I think the tiger blood is starting a bit slow for me, but I think today it started because I feel a difference. I'm feeling cheerier and really productive at work this week. At the start of this I wasn't finding everyone around me all that funny, but I feel like I have my humor back! All in all, this week has been good

I think the tiger blood has hit!  If that is what prompted me to get into high gear and make "perfect burgers" last night, then roast spaghetti squash and sweet potatoes; and while those were roasting, making the downright SCRUMPTIOUS mashed cauliflower!  Went to bed a little later than usual; slept till 5 and took the dog for a power walk/jog.  It felt SO GOOD!
Also - confession/confusion time - I am not sure how it is I fit into those jeans, b/c my other clothes still just slightly less snug, and other smaller things aren't really fitting yet.  I must have stretched them out so much last time I tried to get into them  ... and with less bloat I was able to zip them up.  Who knows?  It's baffling to me - but I don't care - I feel SO GOOD!   I know I am walking taller.  I feel happier.  I find I am being gentler with strangers, too.  I work in SF, and pedestrians and cars alike can be so annoying, but I've been much calmer when getting cut off by a car while in a crosswalk; or when someone with head buried in phone just plain stops right in the middle of the sidewalk...
Anyway, I am LOVING the food.  Referring to the W30 book is making me a better cook.  I never looked up how to make a burger before (how hard can it be?), and now, I see what I have been doing wrong!  Day by Day is a great way to track everything and as someone above said, moving that marker to the next page is really satisfying.  I am also thinking of slowly adding back in only wine after the 30 days, bc birthday, and then continuing with W40 through Lent.  I support a team going to trial right after Easter and I am finding this way of eating and behavior modification is totally busting stress issues for me!
Sorry for the long winded-ness, but I really feel like this challenge is a winner!

Kathy - yes!  I modified the shepherd's pie recipe to include veggies I had in the fridge, so onions, garlic, carrots, celery and leeks made it in there this time! Also, I'm not a fan of sweet potatoes so I use regular mashed potatoes for the topping and I put slices of salami on top of that so it goes crispy in the oven.  It's very filling since you have meat, potatoes and veggies all in one dish!  And other people love it too so you will be just fine!
My tummy is a little less bloated today - yes! Not exactly flat, but progress for sure... maybe week 3 is our week! :-)

@lagunarover Good for you for going to book club!! I skipped a wine club dinner last weekend because I just didn't feel like being around all the wine!!! But this weekend we have a different event that I will go to.  We each bring a dish, so I'm looking for something to take that will fill me up if that's all I can eat. I"m going to look at a Shepherd's Pie recipe.
I too haven't felt like my clothes are looser or anything, but I am really enjoying the food and can see myself doing Whole30 to some degree for longer than 30 days. Maybe it is because we are over 50 that it's taking a bit longer to see results, but I do feel better and have a more energy so here are some NSV's to celebrate!

I am surprised to realize that the hardest part of the Whole30 for me so far is to deal with my emotional eating habits. I find the whole30 meals really tasty and I do not feel deprived of anything. However, I find it so difficult not to fall back into old, bad habits of self-medicating with food when something feels off. I have been feeling exhausted and a bit sick the past couple of days and my first reflex is always to want to eat something, especially carbs, fat and sugar, in order to deal with my feelings. I am really happy  (and a little proud of myself also :-)) that I have managed to stay strong and not give in to these strong cravings. It helps me to inhale peppermint essential oil and I keep a journal to write down my emotions. Meditation also helps me a lot to deal with stress and fatigue. It also helps me to distract myself for long enough until the cravings pass. So far, the Whole30 has been a really good and important experience for me. Realizing the extent and power of my emotional eating habits and (the process of) learning to deal with my emotions without food is a big NSV for me.

Day 16 - how is everyone feeling?  Does anyone have "tiger blood" yet? I guess I'm still waiting for the big changes but for me this all seems to be happening, well, glacially... I mean I feel good on the inside and my cravings have dissipated a lot, (other than wine - what is it with you, wine!!??) but no sudden bursts of energy, no clothes fitting better and no one has said anything to me about me looking different.
Last night I actually went out in the evening for the first time to my monthly book club, which in essence is all about drinking and talking over good food. I took a new batch of compliant shepherd's pie, which everyone just loved, and drank sparkling water all night.  I count that as success! Interestingly enough, another book club member said she is also doing the Whole 30 and she started on January 7 and has lost 7 pounds.
First of all - hey!  No weighing yourself! And I told her that but she just shrugged.  Second of all, people were telling her how good she looked.  When I mentioned I started  the same program on January 2, I got the "Have you lost any weight?" questions and quizzical looks.  "No idea" I answered honestly, since I haven't weighed myself.
Way to feel depressed when others have visible results in just over one week and I don't have any at all in just over 2 weeks... :-(
Oh well, onwards and upwards.  I'm still walking past bagels, pastries and cookies in the office without missing a thing... (*nibbles hard boiled eggs and salami while sipping black coffee...)

Day 11 and I am feeling pretty good. I did wake up about 4:30am with a headache, but I think a large part was I needed to drink more water. I took some medicine and drank water and was fine by the time I got up and left for my barre class. I had some of the chili I made the other day for breakfast, with a salad. Very good. I will be making the salmon cakes from the Whole 30 program book for dinner. My husband really likes them. I am going to add some Old Bay as seasoning because- Maryland.
I am so excited to have found grass fed beef at our local chain grocery store at a decent price. I also noticed that Whole Foods has their animal welfare ground beef on sale, so I think I will try that as well. Since my husband and daughter are not eating Whole 30 it will be nice to stretch the ground beef budget since our daughter wants me to make hamburgers this weekend.
We have got this. We are headed towards the half way point!

So I decided last night that I was going to give my mayo another shot and what do you know, another fail!  So I followed these directions you gave me and it worked!!!  I literally jumped up and down with joy and my kids laughed at me, but I don't even care because that's how much I love homemade mayo!  Thank you so much for the tip!!

I'm 55 and have never been a good sleeper.  4 hours straight is a good night, with an hour here and there after 4 am.  Expert power napper, though.
I thought my sleep was improving the first week - slept 10+ hours on Friday night.  But, this week, I'm having a lot of trouble falling asleep (that's not usually a problem) - which makes me agitated, too... making it harder.  And then the cycle starts.  Keeping the faith that it will get better.  Sleep is number 1 reason I'm doing this.
I'm often commenting that time is flying by - this program has definitely slowwwwed it down - so aware of what day it is...
We hit the double digits!  Woo hoo, indeed!

I’m 60 (Ohmygoodness!  When did that happen?). I usually sleep through the night unless I’ve been drinking iced tea later than I should. But I can usually get back to sleep almost immediately.

@LagunaRover I like the idea of tracking my sleep.  I usually go to bed around 10:30.  When I wake up at 3 am it's not necessarily because I have to go to the bathroom, but I might make more of a conscious effort to stop drinking water earlier.  I'm not wide awake and ready to get up then.  I usually toss and turn until I fall back to sleep.  One interesting thing is that the past few nights I've gone to bed around midnight one night I slept until 6 am. So maybe I don't need as much sleep as I used to?  Thanks for the advice!

    Hi @Kathy from Texas,
I'm 60 and from Texas, too.  I have had issues with sleep for a long time now - at least 10 years.  I also am hoping to see an improvement in my sleep with Whole30.  I often stay up late (past midnight) because I have trouble falling asleep.   If I go to bed earlier then I'll be awake by 3am or 4am and often cannot fall back asleep.  Little by little I've developed a bad habit of having some wine before bed so that I can fall asleep easier and stay asleep longer.  Sometimes that works, but it obviously has some other unwanted side effects...especially weight gain.  The good news is that this week so far I've been getting sleepy earlier in the evening and am falling to sleep easier.  I was in bed by 10:30 last night.  I woke up at 6am, but I feel like that's a big improvement.  I'm trying to add walking back into my daily routine and I think that is helping as well.

I am in the "food is out to get me" mode. I had to go to the grocery store and it is like the cakes and cheese are just looking at me pass them by, lol. I do love eggs, but I avoid the rut by eating whatever premade or left overs I have i made the chili from the Whole 30 program book late last night and let it cook in the slow cooker until this morning. I had that for breakfast and it was good. Yesterday, I had a compliant apple chicken sausage and half a baked potato and half an avocado for breakfast.

Happy day 10 everyone!  I really love reading everyone's posts.  All the recipes, ideas and motivation are really helpful.  My biggest "craving" has been to step on a scale!!  This is really strange as typically I only step on a scale about once a month... Anyway, I hadn't put the scale away since I really don't use it, but I had to yesterday because everytime I walked by it I was so tempted to step on it.  Also, I'm curious if there are any other women over 50 out there.  I'm asking because one of the things I was hoping to see a difference in is my sleeping.  I don't know if I am still waking up at night just because of my age or if I need to wait a bit longer to see an improvement in that area.  I do think the quality of my sleep is better but I hate waking up at 3 am every night
