So, I work in $F, and am usually running late in the am, so, I end up buying breakfast and lunch.  Then there is the occasional "hey, wanna take a walk and get some coffee?" afternoon things - so it REALLY adds up - we are talking $15 minimum per day/5 days a week (sometimes weekends).  And don't even get me started on the easy 7:30 pm text to the hubs "do I need to bring home dinner?" which results in my picking up dinner for two between bus stop and home and blowing $40 - $50+ more than once a week (and, I would sit and drink a glass of wine while I waited, which is across the board insanely expensive in the bay area).
At the beginning I went hog wild and spent what I thought was a lot of money on the staples listed - the organic everything at Whole Foods and felt like it was costing a fortune.  But, in reality, I didn't need all those staples (... yet, so I am set for Lent, perhaps), and found some very comparable organics at the close-by Safeway and local organic leaning stores.   But, we drink more than 3 bottles of wine per week (being honest ), so that savings is huge, and the hubs has been drinking beer, but it hasn't affected my resolve.   (I have a decent stash of wine in my basement that has not tempted me once, btw... it's crazy).
So, I'm with you LagunaRover - at the outset it seemed like it was costing a fortune, but I pull my debit card out of my wallet, like NEVER, during the workweek, and I think the credit union is about to call to see if I'm okay or got a divorce, bc my spending is nil.

I think this is where we all are. Brent Fikowski is a CrossFit superstar and said the following in a recent interview:
“You’ve got to find substitutes that you still enjoy. Don’t try and go straight into just, rice, chicken, and broccoli. Find a few things you eat that need replacing. It’s all about building good habits. Instead of eating breaded chicken fingers, I buy chicken breast and find a way that I like to cook them that makes me feel just as good.  It shouldn’t feel like a sacrifice. It needs to become a habit, a lifestyle.
The same is true with exercise. I love CrossFit. But if you love the water and you love swimming, then find a routine and a group of people and swim. If exercise becomes a chore, it won’t become a part of your lifestyle....You want to be happy!   The reason I eat this way is because it makes me feel good, and when I feel good, I train good, and when I drink good, I’m happier. People ask,  “Don’t you miss ice cream and beer?”  Well, yeah!   But then I would feel awful. “

The money thing is interesting. My husband and I cook at home 95% of the time whether we're doing a Whole30 or not. So our grocery bills do get more expensive doing a Whole30. But during a W30 we don't buy beer or wine, and we don't go out to eat. Maybe the odd emergency Chipotle run, but that's it. In the end, we spend a little less money overall on a W30. But for people who buy lunch every day and go out a lot, the W30 makes a huge difference! We use our savings to travel. Sometimes people ask how we're able to go on an international trip every year. I tell them to calculate how much they spend at restaurants/bars/coffee shops per month, and then get back to me.  We spent ten days in Italy last year and are headed to Seoul, South Korea next month. We're not wealthy. We just cook at home and don't buy random stuff we don't need, for the most part.
**edit** We're also fortunate enough not to have student loans or medical debt like many people here. #Americanproblems

I know this isn't helpful, but I simply cannot recall the last time I had my monthly visitor!   But, I do sympathize, because been there.  done that.  and caved.  Do the spicey, herbal teas do any good?  Lemon water or tea have been my go tos this month.  Make sure you don't have anything in your environment - maybe buy some flowers to distract, and treat yourself  -  it's been a strong 3 weeks!!
You know what I really am missing?  Breath mints or gum!  More than just about anything.  It's the thing I reach for and stop in my tracks ... sure didn't think that was a downfall ... till today, it really hit.
I have to go away for 2 days for intense work thing - 2 day meeting; staying at a top notch hotel.  And I have the cooler packed.  I actually cut and served a gorgeous 5 layer chocolate cake today.  Not one crumb went in my mouth.  I didn't even lick the frosting off my fingers!  But, I really wanted gum.

Today I had my first serious sweets FOMO. Today we had our monthly bake off at work, and a colleague brought the most amazing looking cinnamon toast crunch cake, make with cinnamon cereal milk, cinnamon toast crunch brittle, and cream cheese frosting. Store bought doughnuts, cookies and baked goods don't appeal to me one bit - I've honestly never understood why you'd waste the calories - but I am a sucker for homemade... especially when it's my favorite childhood cereal as a cake!  But I suppose I escaped the 3:30pm sugar crash and 500+ calories, so that's a win!

This weekend will be the most challenging for me. We're headed to New York City (to see Hamilton!), where there is so much food (bagels!) and so many friends who want to grab a drink! We've found a couple great places for meals that I'm actually looking forward to, and are going to make it a lower key weekend than we likely otherwise would. I do take satisfaction in knowing that it will surely be a healthier weekend than it otherwise would have been!

I have struggled with anxiety all my life and I really notice a difference with that! I don't feel nearly as anxious about things in my everyday life. it's still there, and it always will be unfortunately, but it's not nearly as bad as it was before starting this, and I've had zero anxiety attacks, so for me that's a huge success! I think the tiger blood is starting a bit slow for me, but I think today it started because I feel a difference. I'm feeling cheerier and really productive at work this week. At the start of this I wasn't finding everyone around me all that funny, but I feel like I have my humor back! All in all, this week has been good

I've tried two new dinner recipes this week and both were a hit at my house!  They were super easy as well, which as we all know, is always nice!  Thought I'd share them here in case anyone is interested!

How do you know sulphites aren't a trigger food for you?  Do you mean that they don't trigger cravings?  In that case, I doubt they're a trigger food for anyone... but sulphites can be really hard on people... For instance, for me, I can't eat grapes (which the growers spray with sulphites in their infancy stage) because I'm so sensitive to them that they make me itch so bad I claw myself bloody...
Extending is the same as starting over but it's often easier on the psyche

I wouldnt start over. I would extend my Whole30 by 15 days. So rather then looking at it as Day 1 of 30 think of it as Day 15 of 45. Little less painful that way.

Saved the eggs! Since I have the luxury of working from home I cook everything to order  I did save some leftover sauces.
Once I calmed down from the initial freakout I realized I can make this work. I have a mini fridge that my eggs and sauces are living in along with a 2 expensive cuts of beef that I shoved in the little freezer compartment. I can have eggs every morning and if I have to I can shop everyday and store the leftovers from Meal 2 for Meal 3.
On a positive note I found the part I (hopefully) need at a local store so if my husband is able to fix it tonight I may have a working fridge sooner rather then later.

@WholeCourtney - do you have any precooking done already? Throw it into coolers with ice.
Eggs even if not cooked are likely fine and don't need to be chucked.
    Sorry, this sucks!

have some people in town tonight and we are going to a famous restaurant in my area that specializes in fried chicken sandwiches.  i am going to eat a big whole 30 meal before i go and just sit with them. worried that its going to be awkward for them eating in front of me, but there's not one thing on the menu that could even remotely be compliant.
i am thinking they will understand and not feel bad about eating in front of me. we'll see how it goes.  the struggle is real!!

I’m making chili again today, but I’m adding more veggies to it and adding a tablespoon of cayenne. The first pot was pretty mild.  I have lamb shoulder chops defrosting. I’ll be braising them this afternoon. I think Italian. Today is full of basketball games with the grandkids, so I watch a game, rush home and get something cooking, rush out to a game and repeat!
I think I feel better.  Less bloated. I didn’t weigh before I started this, so I wouldn’t know if I’ve actually lost any weight. I definitely need to, but I think I’ll just focus on eating better, then go on to portion control after the 30 days.
Last week, I threw a prepped meal in the freezer. So glad I did because there wouldn’t have been much for lunch today. Roasted pork chop, sweet potato with ghee, green beans and an apple.
I have Achilles tendinitis in my left foot, so I haven’t been able to get in as much walking as I would like. Once that is taken care of, I should be able to get on track!

Although you may be compliant with the W30, you may still need to look at what you are eating - perhaps something you have left in (or added to) your diet is causing issues - for me, my stomach is irritated when I eat raw onions, so I have stopped adding these to my meals.  I would also recommend taking a second look at the meal template and making sure you are getting enough fats/protein/etc.
Is it possible that the digestion and sleep could be a result of something else?  Like other stress in your life? It's easy to look to W30 as a cause for everything going on, but there may be other external factors?
I would also try looking through the NSV checklist - see if anything pops out that maybe you haven't thought about.  I know this really helped me - there were so many items I hadn't really thought about because i was so focused on how my appearance was changing.  For me, other NSVs have been - reduced cravings, better mood, my eczema has lessened, I'm listening to my body more, etc.
I had a couple of really rough days this week and was feeling the same - wondering if it is worth it.  But, I think we need to keep in mind that we aren't even half way through yet, so we haven't really given the program a real chance unless we push through the tough days.
I wish you the best and hope you start to feel better!  I am confident that you can get through it!!

Day 11 and I am feeling pretty good. I did wake up about 4:30am with a headache, but I think a large part was I needed to drink more water. I took some medicine and drank water and was fine by the time I got up and left for my barre class. I had some of the chili I made the other day for breakfast, with a salad. Very good. I will be making the salmon cakes from the Whole 30 program book for dinner. My husband really likes them. I am going to add some Old Bay as seasoning because- Maryland.
I am so excited to have found grass fed beef at our local chain grocery store at a decent price. I also noticed that Whole Foods has their animal welfare ground beef on sale, so I think I will try that as well. Since my husband and daughter are not eating Whole 30 it will be nice to stretch the ground beef budget since our daughter wants me to make hamburgers this weekend.
We have got this. We are headed towards the half way point!
